  • In this study, we compare the properties and estimate the durability of five oil colors that are the most popularly used colors in the conservation of oil paintings. A set of these colors was obtained form four manufacturers each, and their properties were analyzed by conducting deterioration experiments. Subsequently, we observed the colors and performed X-ray fluorescence analysis. As a result of colour observation and XRF analysis, it was confirmed that there are the differences according to the pigment types, mixing rations and the manufacturers even for colors having the same product name. The deterioration test indicated differences in the appearance of the colors ; for instance, the color difference was above 12.0 in most of the samples, including restoration color and acrylic gouache. In the case of Lemon Yellow a lot of discoloration and cracking occurred, and difference in gloss was ob served in Viridian of manufacturer C. Most cracks were ob served in the restoration color obtained from manufacturer B and were assumed to be because of the resin used by the manufacturer. Nevertheless, additional research will have to be conducted by controlling variables in order to find out the cause. Through this study, we demonstrated that retouching materials for conservation of oil painting differed in their physical properties according to the color and manufacturer. Therefore a conservator should be mindful during the selection and use of materials for retouching oil paintings.

  • This study analyzed the style, dimensions, fabric patterns, colors, and fabrics of a traditional Chinese women's dress from the Zhou Dynasty, and reconstructed it in the form of a virtual garment using 3D CLO. Based on ancient flat image data and three-dimensional portrait data, who wore them, how they were worn, and how they were coordinated was analyzed. In order to analyze the size and pattern of the straight Ju Chines dress, data from the excavation report and the tomb owner's anthropometric measurements were combined to infer the wearing condition and organize the sculptural features. Dimensional analysis was carried out using a well-preserved small-scale woven cotton cloth as a restoration model, and the horizontal and vertical dimensions were reasonably estimated using the shape proportioning method. The analysis of the colors and patterns of the fabrics was based on the colors and patterns of the fabrics excavated from Masan Tomb No. 1 during the Eastern Zhou, Qin, and Han periods. Finally, a virtual model was created using data from the excavation report and the age and height information of the owner of the excavated robe, and the pose and size of the virtual model were determined using 3D CLO. Based on the previous research data, the garment was virtually sewn and simulated. The shape, pressure, and strain of the garment in different postures was also compared. Through the research direction of pattern and 3D restoration, this research maximizes the restoration of Chinese traditional women's dress and presents it in a more intuitive, comprehensive, and vivid way.

  • This study surveyed color awareness and color systems according to pedigree(Ilseob, Woljoo, Hyegak, Manbong ect.) targeting Dancheongjang (craftsman) who has inherited Dancheong (traditional multicolor). From the survey of color awareness, standardized color system of 'traditional color' awareness by Dancheongjang is 'the color inherited by the master' and it was identified that there is the standardized color system in awareness and its standard is either same or similar to traditional Dancheong. Also, according to each period, colors of Dancheong have been changed, it was thought that change in color materials and preference had went with times. From eleven main colors of Dancheong, chromaticity materials which were preferred by Dancheongjang were analyzed by the faction of Dancheongjang and colors and it resulted in a variety of color ranges over all. In the case of Yangnok, Noerok, Juhong it showed a high deviation with a wide color range while there was a low deviation with a narrow color range in Hayeop, Daja, Seokganju. Through this study it was difficult to identify clear correlations and tendencies of color system by the faction of Dancheongjangs. This is judged to be a reflection of the subjective artistry of the members.

  • The resistance for atmospheric corrosion of the conventional 5 epoxy resins (Araldite rapid, Araldite AW 106, Araldite SV 427, Devcon, and CDK), those were used to restoration of the iron relics, were investigated in this study. Temperature, UV light, and water were chosen for the factors of the atmospheric corrosion. The drastic voluminous changes of the epoxy resins were found at the temperature range between $40^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ After UV exposure, the colors of the epoxy resins were severely changed. In case of the indoor exposure the chroma value(${\Delta}E$) of the resins were less than 2, which showed a little changes of the colors. The result of the water contact angle test was Araldite rapid>AW 106>Devcon>SV 427>CDK. Although the contact angles of the resins were reduced by UV exposure, SV 427 was stable comparatively.

  • Early childhood caries is a widespread condition that requires attention; however, its treatment remains a challenge in terms of child behavior management. This study describes the usefulness of customized zirconia crowns for the restoration of deciduous teeth through the evaluation of some cases. Three cases are described: a 29-month-old girl who presented with severe early childhood caries affecting anterior tooth, a 50-month-old boy who presented with extensive caries of his anterior tooth, and 70-month-old girl who presented with extensive caries of his primary posterior dentition. These prefabricated, zirconium-based ceramic crowns ($Nusmile^{TM}$ NuSmile) are available in various sizes, shapes and colors. Before the treatment, radiographs and intraoral photographs were taken to evaluate the appropriateness of treatment. Our findings indicate that customized zirconia crowns may be appropriate for restoring the deciduous teeth. Further long-term clinical studies are required to clarify the usefulness of this restorative method.

  • The use of synthetic resins in ceramic restoration poses several challenges, including aging and potential damage to artifacts, which has raised the need to investigate new materials and restoration methods. This study set out to incorporate full color 3D printing into the 3D digital technology-based restoration method, an emerging approach currently being researched, and to print out missing parts with color information. After examining material physical properties with an experiment, the investigator printed out missing parts from a white porcelain vessel and grayish-blue-powdered celadon plate and compared them in chromaticity and brilliance. The experimental results show that the outputs had comparable tensile strength to the original restoration materials, whereas the recorded compressive strength was approximately 1.4~2 times higher than that of the original restoration materials. According to the NIST table of color difference values, the white porcelain vessel was visible at ΔE*ab 1.55, and the grayish-blue-powdered celadon plate was perceivable at 3.34. Even though it was impossible to express the colors accurately owing to printer limitations, this non-contact approach reduced the possibility of damage to the minimum. In conclusion, it can be applied to objects with a high chance of damage or generate display effects through purposeful color differentiation in missing parts.

  • A fabric excavated from tombs or passed down is not easy to find its original color as it degrades and discolors by UV and visible rays, oxygen and microorganisms. LC-MS analysis is commonly used for separating and analyzing colors, but color extraction process is complicated and important in dye-qualitative analysis. To extract red colors from a fabric which is dyed with safflower and lac, solvents; hydrogen chloride, pyridine and oxalic acid are used and oxalic acid was the most effective solvent. Meanwhile, dyed samples were put in degradation condition; UV-A for 168 hours and analyzed with LC-MS to find out its colors'chemical changes. As a result, carthamin is detected in $T_R$ 13 min and laccaic acid A is detected in $T_R$ 10 min. However carthamin is not detected in a degraded fabric dying with safflower, it could be identified as a safflower fabric by the molecular weight of m/z 931. Through this study the most optimal method for red color extraction is found so it is expected to be used as a base line data for red color LC-MS analysis.

  • Three types of epoxy resins (Epo-Tek 301, Araldite 103, and Araldite 106) and three types of pigments (bunche, pastel, and conté), which are materials for porcelain restoration, were selected as examination materials. The tone change, porosity, and sedimental resulting from the mixtures of varying ratios of these three materials were observed. Samples were also made from the mixture of Epo-teck 301, four kinds of white pigments, and six types of fillers and subjected to ultraviolet ray penetration for 200 hours to observe the oxidation of the epoxy resins. The result showed that the chemical composition of pastel drastically changed when mixed with Epo-tek 301. Although bunche and conté displayed clear colors, those of conté were less clear when it was mixed with other substances. Adding a small amount of Epo-tek 301 tended to be driven into the corner, whereas mixing a large amount caused saturation and boiling. On the other hand, AW 106 did not display clear colors owing to its high viscosity; when mixed in large amounts, however, the clarity of colors improved. For AY 103, a similar standard of color clarity was maintained regardless of the mixture ratio. The following was ranked according to the level of porosity: [Pastel>bunche≒conté]. In terms of sedimentary, however, [bunche>conté>Pastel], [Epo-tek 301> AY 103> AW 106]. The result of measuring the degree of yellowing revealed that titanium, pastel, silicon dioxide, and kaolin tended to turn yellow, whereas bunche, conté, diatomaceous earth, and calcium hydroxide tended to resist yellowing.
