  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the health status and food habits of male college students in Seoul according to drinking habits. In order to identify risk factors, health surveys were conducted from October 2013 to December 2013. Average height, weight, and BMI of subjects were $175.47{\pm}5.27cm$, $67.93{\pm}9.28kg$, and $22.04{\pm}2.67kg/m^2$, respectively. Weight and BMI were higher in the non-drinking groups compared to the drinking groups (p<0.05). Frequency of drinking was 2~3 times per month, and 52.4% of subjects started drinking when starting university. The motivation to start drinking was cited as "From necessity". Reason for drinking was "Social relations". The favorite kind of drink was beer. Rate of taking supplements was 24.4% of the subjects. Vitamin preparations were highest in drinking groups and non-drinking groups (p<0.05). The reasons for skipping meal were "too busy" in the drinking groups, and "oversleep" in the non-drinking groups (p<0.05). The preference for snacking in drinking groups were milk, milk products, and fast food, with the highest being listed first. The non-drinking groups preferred carbonated drinks and ice cream. The drinking groups need more education about their drinking habits. Drinking groups also need an increased intake of vegetables and fruits.

  • In this study, the possibility of using pyrolysis oil as wood adhesives was explored. Especially, adhesives were formulated by reacting pyrolysis oil and formaldehyde and also partially replacing phenol with pyrolysis oil in phenol-formaldehyde (PF) adhesive and soy hydrolizate/PF adhesive formulation. The pine wood was fast pyrolyized and the oils were obtained from a series of condensers in the pyrolysis system. The oils from each condenser were first reacted with formaldehyde to explore potential use of the oil itself as adhesive. The lap-shear bond strength test results indicated that the oil itself could be polymerized and form bonds between wood adherends. The oils from each condenser were then mixed together and used as partial replacement of phenol (25, 33, and 50% by weight) in phenol-formaldehyde adhesive. The bond strength of the oil containing PF adhesives was decreased as percent phenol replacement level increased. However, no significant difference was found between 25 and 33% of phenol replacement level. The oil-contained PF resins at 25, 33, and 50% phenol replacement level with different NaOH/Phenol (Pyrolysis oil) molar ratio were further formulated with soy hydrolizate to make soy hydrolizate/pyrolysis oil-phenol formaldehyde adhesive at 6:4 weight (wt) ratio and used for fiberboard manufacturing. Surface internal bond strength (IB) of the boards bonded with 33% replacement at 0.3 NaOH/Phenol (Pyrolysis oil) molar ratio performed better than other replacement levels and molar ratios. Thickness swelling after 24 hr cold water soaking and after 2 hr in boiling water was increased as % replacement of pyrolysis oil increased.

  • A GIS is capable of extracting various hydrological factors from DEM(digital elevation model). One of important tasks for hydrological analysis is the division of watershed. It can be an essential factor among various geometric characteristics of watershed. In this study, watershed itself and other geometric factors of watershed are extracted from DEM by using GIS technique. The manual process of tasks to obtain geometric characteristics of watershed is automated by using the functions of ARC/INFO software as GIS package. Scanned data was used for this study and it is converted to DEM data. Various forms of representation of spatial data are handled in main module and GRID module of ARC/INFO. GRID module is used on a stream in order to define watershed boundary, so it would be possible to obtain the watersheds. Also, a flow direction, stream networks and orders are generated. The results show that GIS can aid watershed management and research and surveillance. Also the geometric characteristics parameters of watershed can be quantified with ease using GIS technique and the hardsome process can be automated.

  • Analysis of fish farm influences on stream water quality may provide basic informations on watershed management to reduce environmental impact due to fish farm development and to conserve stream water quality in forested watershed area. In this research stream water qualities around Mt. Baegun area were monitored seasonally for three years. Due to the increase of pH in effluent water from the fish farm it was believed that alkalization of stream water can be accelerated by large scale development of fish farms in the forested watershed area. As a result of regression analyses, the linear equation of pH of influent and effluent water of fish farm was, pH of effluent water of fish farm = $0.6234{\times}pH$ of influent water of fish farm + 2.6263. Also, the linear equation of electrical conductivity of influent and effluent water of fish farm was electrical conductivity of effluent water of fish farm = $1.7275{\times}$electrical conductivity of influent water of fish farm - 14.007. Negative effects on stream water quality were observed by indications of increase in electrical conductivity and water temperature of effluent water from the fish farm. Decreases in physicochemical indices such as the amount of dissolved oxygen, total amount of cation and total amount of anion in effluent water from the fish farm were also negative aspects in downstream ecology. It is recommended that water purification system as well as environmentally-friendly fish farm design should be incorporated to large scale fish farm development plan in forested watershed area.

  • Quality of Service (QoS)-constrained policy has an advantage to guarantee QoS requirements requested by users. Quorum systems can ensure the consistency and availability of replicated data despite the benign failure of data repositories. We propose a Quorum based resource management scheme, which includes a system resource and network resource, both of which can satisfy the requirements of application QoS. We also propose the resource reconfiguration algorithm based on temporal execution time estimation method. Resource reconfiguration means that reshuffling the current available resource set for maintaining the quality level of the resources. We evaluate the effectiveness of resource reconfiguration mechanism with a Heart Hemodynamics analysis. Our approach shows the increase of the stability of execution environment as well as decrease the completion time compare to the method that is not adapted the resource reconfiguration.

  • Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) have been used to represent the effects of topography on soil erosion. A DEM of 30 m resolution is frequently used in hydrology and soil erosion studies because the National Water Management Information System (WAMIS) provides a 30 m resolution DEM at national scale on its web site. However, the Ministry of Environment recommends the use of a DEM with 10 m resolution for evaluation of soil erosion due to the fact that soil erosion estimation is to some degree affected by the spatial resolution of DEM. In this regard, a DEM with 5 m resolution was resampled for 10 × 10 m, 20 × 20 m, 30 × 30 m, 50 × 50 m, 70 × 70 m, and 100 × 100 m resolutions, respectively. USLE LS factors and soil erosion values were evaluated using these datasets. Use of a DEM with at least 30 m resolution provided reasonable LS factors and soil erosion values at a watershed.
