Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive as an EAP actuator material due to its merits in terms of lightweight, dry condition, large displacement output, low actuation voltage and low power consumption. This paper presents the performance of EAPap actuators with thickness variation. The EAPap is made with cellulose paper, and is shown to bend in response to an external electric field. Up to the present, we have tested displacement, current and force of EAPap with 20 $\mu$m thickness. The thickness of EAPap is important factor that affects the performance of the actuator. Therefere, three different thickness of EAPap, 20, 30, and 40 $\mu$m are investigated that inference the tip displacement, blocked force, the resonance and the actuator efficiency. There is an optimum thickness of EAPap, which is resulted from the stiffness and the mass. The performance of EAPap with thickness is discussed.

The hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) is highly linked with liver diseases and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. HBx-interacting protein (XIP) has been shown to abolish the transactivation functions of HBx. Here, we define the structural characteristics and HBx binding properties of XIP. Under physiological conditions, XIP was composed mainly of random-coils but significant helicity was induced in the hydrophobic condition. NMR spectroscopy defined the secondary structure of XIP in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate. Four putative helices were mapped to the amino acids 8-12, 32-38, 42-54 and 82-91. Any deletion of defined putative helices in XIP led to loss of binding to HBx, and truncated mutant lacking last putative helix decreased helicity more than that it could. Our results suggest that XIP requires its entire sequence for HBx binding and it may be under drastic conformational change when binds to HBx.
Three different derivatives were obtained in the synthesis of cobalt-binding BLM-A2 and characterized by NMR and Mass spectrometry. It was found that Component 1 is Co(II)($2H_2O$)(BLM-A2), component 2 is Co(III)($OOH^-$)(BLM-A2) and component 3 is Co(III)($H_2O$)($OH^-$)(BLM-A2), respectively. Component 2 and 3 were interestingly dominated when CoBLM-A2 complex was synthesized under basic condition. In this experiment, it was revealed newly that the brown form (component 1) was 6-coordinated structure composed with not 5 ligands but 4 ligands from BLM-A2 and with $2H_2O$ as the axial ligands. The component 3 exhibiting a novel ligand configuration is found, and the structure of component 3 was observed to be very similar to that of component 1 in the kind of their ligands but one of the axial ligand is $OH^-$ instead of $H_2O$. These ligand configurations are different from the green form (component 2) exhibiting 6-coordinate structure composed of 5 ligands from BLM-A2 and one ligand of $OOH^-$, being consistent with former studies.
Hematomyelia is an extremely rare condition that cause severe neurological symptoms. We reported 4 cases of spontaneous hematomyelia, two cases of cavernous angioma and two cases of hematoma. In all patients, the clinical course was progressive ; motor and sensory abnormalities below the lesion and voiding difficulties were the common presenting symptom complex. The preoperative diagnosis was made by magnetic resonance imaging and the all patients underwent surgical exploration. Complete removal of hematoma was done in 3 patients and complete evacuation after aspiration of hematoma were performed in one patients. Neurological function did not worsen postoperatively in any patients. The early diagnosis with magnetic resonance imaging and immediate surgical treatment of the hematoma and the associated vascular malformation are considered to be the best way to halt the progression of the disease.

Recent studies have shown that the short time solution of the equation of motion for the rolling of ships is important in deciding the possibility of capsize of ships due to the excessive heel. Since most of known solutions for nonlinear equations of motion are long time or steady periodic solutions, here a simple way is described to get the short time solutions of the Duffing equation, which was chosen for deriving a criterion for the capsize of the ship. With the small external rolling moment, we first assume the state of the small damping and near resonance. Then, for cases when the frequency of the external moment is higher than the resonant one, an inequality was derived as a criterion for the capsize. This gives the range of the initial condition and the magnitude of the external moment which should be avoided for a ship to be safe from capsize. Furthermore, from the linearized equation, it is also shown that a simple and self-explanatory solution can be obtained consistent with that for the case of no damping, which yields the well-known linear growth with time.

This study analyzes the resonance characteristics caused by the mutual interference between LCL filters and the grid impedance under the parallel operation of the grid-connected inverter using the LCL filter. These characteristics are verified through simulation and experiment. Two inverters are used to connect to the grid in parallel, and the system parameters, including the LCL filter, are set to the same conditions. In the case of inverters running in parallel at the point of common coupling, the presence of grid impedance causes mutual interference between the LCL filters of each inverter, and the deviation of the filter resonance frequency is analyzed to understand the parallel inverter. The correlation between the number of devices and the size of grid impedance is simulated by PSIM and verified by MATLAB. By connecting the real-time digital simulator Typhoon HILS to the DSP 28377 control board, the mutual interference characteristics are tested under the condition of two inverters running in parallel. The experimental and analysis results are the same, indicating the validity of the analysis.
In the developed NMR hyperpolarization techniques, Signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) technique is thought to be a promising method to overcome the low sensitivity of bio-NMR/MRI. Most experiments using SABRE have been done in methanol, which is biologically harmful solvent. Therefore, more biological friendly solvent, such as ethanol can be more appropriate solvent to be applicable in bio-NMR and MRI. As the proof of concept, successful hyperpolarization on pyridine via SABRE is carried out in ethanol and its enhancement factor is calculated to be more than 150 folds. To investigate more about its possibility of hyperpolarization in different alcohol solvents, methanol and propanol are used for SABRE in the same condition. The overall polarization trend in different external magnetic field is similar but its polarization number is decreased with higher molecular weight solvents (the order from methanol to propanol). This result indicates that the efficiency of SABRE is different from solvent system despite its same functional group and similar properties. Higher para-hydrogen concentration, higher partial pressure of para-hydrogen, and deuterated solvent can increase the hyperpolarization in any solvents. With these series of successful SABRE results, future studies on SABRE in more biofriendly environment, on more various solvent systems, and with more substrates are needed and it will be the firm basis for applying the SABRE system on the future bio-NMR/MRI.
The mechanical behaviour and stability of coal mining engineering underground is significantly affected by ground water. In this study, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI) technique was employed to determine the water distribution characteristics in coal specimens during saturation process, based on which the functional rule for water distribution was proposed. Then, using discrete element method (DEM), an innovative numerical modelling method was developed to simulate water-weakening effect on coal behaviour considering moisture content and water distribution. Three water distribution numerical models, namely surface-wetting model, core-wetting model and uniform-wetting model, were established to explore the water distribution influences. The feasibility and validity of the surface-wetting model were further demonstrated by comparing the simulation results with laboratory results. The investigation reveals that coal mechanical properties are affected by both water saturation coefficient and water distribution condition. For all water distribution models, micro-cracks always initiate and nucleate in the water-rich area and thus lead to distinct macro fracture characteristics. With the increase of water saturation coefficient, the failure of coal tends to be less violent with less cracks and ejected fragments. In addition, the core-wetting specimen is more sensitive to water than specimens with other water distribution models.
We report a case of transient osteoporosis of the hip with a femoral neck fracture found during follow-up. A 53-year-old man presented with left hip pain without trauma. The pain did not improve after 2 weeks and he was brought to our hospital by ambulance. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the left hip joint showed diffuse edema in the bone marrow, which was identified by low signal intensity on T1-weighted images, high signal intensity on T2-weighted images, and increased signal intensity on short tau inversion recovery. This edema extended from the femoral head and neck to the intertrochanteric area. He was diagnosed with transient osteoporosis of the left hip. Rest gradually improved his pain; however, 3 weeks later, his left hip pain worsened without trauma. X-ray, computed tomography, and MRI results of the hip joint demonstrated a left femoral neck fracture, and osteosynthesis was performed. Differential diagnoses included avascular necrosis of the femoral head, infection, complex regional pain syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, leukemia, and other cancers. Transient osteoporosis of the hip generally has a good prognosis with spontaneous remission within a few months to 1 year. However, a sufficient length of follow-up from condition onset to full recovery is necessary to avoid all probable complications such as fractures.
Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibro-inflammatory condition characterized by several pathological features that can theoretically involve all organs. Ovarian involvement in IgG4-RD has been reported by two studies only. Herein, we report a pathologically confirmed case of ovarian involvement of IgG4-RD, which mimicked bilateral ovarian malignancies on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
