  • A digital seismic data acquisition and processing system using a PC has been developed in order to replace the analog data acquisition system of shallow marine seismic survey. An A/D converter that has 12bits of resolution and 225KHz of conversion rate was ued to acquire data, and a data acquisition software was developed as a Windows program which provides convenience of use. Raw data acquired at field has been saved to the hard-disk simultaneously. The signal to noise ratio, vertical and horizontal resolution could be improved by a digital data processing of the raw data. The digital processing of the raw data includss gain recovery, filtering, deconvolution, and muting. With the prediction deconvolution algorithm multiple reflections appearing on the shallow marine seismic section could be removed successfully.

  • Blind mismatch correction of time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (TI-ADC) is a challenging task. We present a practical blind calibration technique for low-computation, low-complexity, and high-resolution applications. Its key features are: dramatically reduced computation; simple hardware; guaranteed parameter convergence with an arbitrary number of TI-ADC channels and most real-life input signals, with no bandwidth limitation; multiple Nyquist zone operation; and mixed-domain error correction. The proposed technique is experimentally verified by an M = 4 400 MSPS TI-ADC system. In a single-tone test, the proposed practical blind calibration technique suppressed mismatch spurs by 70 dB to 90 dB below the signal tone across the first two Nyquist zones (10 MHz to 390 MHz). A wideband signal test also confirms the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents the method to provide a fast service for user in image manipulation such as zooming and panning of huge size high resolution satellite image(e.g. Giga bytes per scene). The proposed technique is based on the hierarchical structure that has 3D-Tiling in horizontal and vertical direction to provide the image service more effectively than 2D-Tiling technique in the past does. The essence of the proposed technique is to create tiles of optimum level in real time on the basis of current displaying area, which change as user manipulates huge image. Consequently, this technique provides seamless service, and will be very powerful and useful for manipulation of images of huge size without data conversion.

  • The recent 3D printing technology is used in various medical, manufacturing, and education fields and is more efficient in terms of production process, time, and cost than existing production. Especially in fracture surgery, interest and research have been focused on improving accuracy, shortening of operation time and recovery time, and reducing reoperation. However, because of the financial and technical problems of the 3D printer and the file conversion program, the 3D printing is made directly at the hospital, and it is not generally used for diagnosis of fracture and surgical research. In this study, to solve those problems, clavicle CT imaging was switched into Osirix Open Source DICOM Viewer, Stereolithography file conversion programs and commercial Terarecon 3D DICOM Viewer, file conversion programs, and then clavicle fracture model was directly made through 3D printer of fused filament fabrication wire additive processing method, and then the accuracy of the shape was compared and analyzed. Clavicle fracture models printed in two methods were blind-tested on clinicians of general hospitals' orthopedics and radiologic technicians with over 10 years of experiences, and then their analysis opinions of resolution reviews were analyzed. The result showed no difference. The 3D printing model with open source DICOM STL file conversion program used was applicable to clinical, so it is considered useful in precision diagnosis of fracture and operation plans.

  • This paper proposes the parallel implementation of a self-similarity based image SR (super-resolution) algorithm using OpenCL. The SR algorithm requires tremendous computations to search for a similar patch. This becomes a bottleneck for the real-time conversion from a FHD image to UHD. Therefore, it is imperative to accelerate the processing speed of SR algorithms. For parallelization, the SR process is divided into several kernels, and memory optimization is performed. In addition, two GPUs are used for further acceleration. The experimental results shows that a GPGPU implementation can speed up over 140 times compared to a single-core CPU. Furthermore, it was confirmed experimentally that utilizing two GPUs can speed up the execution time proportionally, up to 277 times.

  • Photon-counting detector (PCD) CT is a new CT technology utilizing a direct conversion X-ray detector, where incident X-ray photon energies are directly recorded as electronical signals. The design of the photon-counting detector itself facilitates improvements in spatial resolution (via smaller detector pixel design) and iodine signal (via count weighting) while still permitting multi-energy imaging. PCD-CT can eliminate electronic noise and reduce artifacts due to the use of energy thresholds. Improved dose efficiency is important for low dose CT and pediatric imaging. The ultra-high spatial resolution of PCD-CT design permits lower dose scanning for all body regions and is particularly helpful in identifying important imaging findings in thoracic and musculoskeletal CT. Improved iodine signal may be helpful for low contrast tasks in abdominal imaging. Virtual monoenergetic images and material classification will assist with numerous diagnostic tasks in abdominal, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular imaging. Dual-source PCD-CT permits multi-energy CT images of the heart and coronary arteries at high temporal resolution. In this special review article, we review the clinical benefits of this technology across a wide variety of radiological subspecialties.

  • The depth information of an image is used in a variety of applications including 2D/3D conversion, multi-view extraction, modeling, depth keying, etc. There are various methods to acquire depth information, such as the method to use a stereo camera, the method to use the depth camera of flight time (TOF) method, the method to use 3D modeling software, the method to use 3D scanner and the method to use a structured light just like Microsoft's Kinect. In particular, the depth camera of TOF method measures the distance using infrared light, whereas TOF sensor depends on the sensitivity of optical light of an image sensor (CCD/CMOS). Thus, it is mandatory for the existing image sensors to get an infrared light image by bundling several pixels; these requirements generate a phenomenon to reduce the resolution of an image. This thesis proposed a measure to acquire a high-resolution image through gradual area movement while acquiring a low-resolution image through pixel bundling method. From this measure, one can obtain an effect of acquiring image information in which illumination intensity (lux) and resolution were improved without increasing the performance of an image sensor since the image resolution is not improved as resolving a low-illumination intensity (lux) in accordance with the gradual pixel bundling algorithm.

  • The use of acoustics to measure the concentration profile of suspended sediment become increasing common. Field studies have shown the usefulness of remotely measuring the suspended sediment concentration with high spatial and temporal resolution. Techniques that allow for the conversion of the backscattered acoustic intensity into suspended sediment concentration have been developed concurrent with instrumentation. (omitted)

  • This paper presents the survey of technical trend in AD converters for wireless communication systems. This paper provides explanations about the performance measure of ADC in wireless communication application and the relation ship between BER versus effective resolution and sampling speed. The survey suggests that at least one step analog frequency down conversion is required for software defined radio systems due to current technological limit.

  • A uniformly sampled digital pulse-width modulation adopting a pre-compensation filter scheme for applications in high-resolution digital-to-analog data conversion is described. It is shown that linearization of the intrinsic distortion resulting in uniformly sampled pulse-width modulation can be achieved by using a non-integer delay digital filter embedded within a noise shaping re-quantizer.
