3-Axial Isotropic Electric-Field Probe Design with Resistor-Loaded Short Dipole (저항 부하된 소형 다이폴을 이용한 3축 등방성 전기장 프로브 설계)

  • In this paper, we designed the 3-axis isotropic electric-field measurement probe using resistor-loaded short dipole with lumped chip resistors. The designed probe shows good isotropic characteristics as well as wideband and low sensitivity. The isotropic characteristics of ${\pm}0.39dB$ from 100 kHz to the 3 GHz band were derived and the reception sensitivity was 0.1 V/m. The frequency response is within 3 dB of the whole section, especially ${\pm}1.3dB$ from 150 kHz to 3 GHz, which is superior to the conventional electric field probe with short dipoles.

A Virtual RLC Active Damping Method for LCL-Type Grid-Connected Inverters

  • Proportional capacitor-current-feedback active damping (AD) is a common damping method for the resonance of LCL-type grid-connected inverters. Proportional capacitor-current-feedback AD behaves as a virtual resistor in parallel with the capacitor. However, the existence of delay in the actual control system causes impedance in the virtual resistor. Impedance is manifested as negative resistance when the resonance frequency exceeds one-sixth of the sampling frequency ($f_s/6$). As a result, the damping effect disappears. To extend the system damping region, this study proposes a virtual resistor-inductor-capacitor (RLC) AD method. The method is implemented by feeding the filter capacitor current passing through a band-pass filter, which functions as a virtual RLC in parallel with the filter capacitor to achieve positive resistance in a wide resonance frequency range. A combination of Nyquist theory and system close-loop pole-zero diagrams is used for damping parameter design to obtain optimal damping parameters. An experiment is performed with a 10 kW grid-connected inverter. The effectiveness of the proposed AD method and the system's robustness against grid impedance variation are demonstrated.

A Novel Active Damping Control of a Three-phase PWM Inverter with LC Filter

  • A novel control method of a three-phase PWM inverter with LC filter is proposed. The transfer function of LC filter is the same as that of 2nd order low pass filter(2nd LPF) which has a zero damping ratio. A simple method of implementing 2nd LPF with damping ratio is to add resistor to inductor or capacitor of LC filter. In an industrial application, it is not practical to adopt damping resistor because it results in losses being proportional to square of current flowing through resistor. Instead of using damping resistors, the proposed active damping control(ADC) utilizes all pass filter(APF) and considers inherent processing delay of digital controller. The overall transfer function of the proposed method is the same as a 2nd LPF and its damping ratio is also controllable via control variables. Detailed design and implementation of controller is also presented. Experiments are conducted with a 7.5kVA induction motor drive system controlled by PWM converter and inverter. Test waveforms are also presented to verify the proposed LC filter control algorithm.

Study on the Braking Characteristics of Starting System Used for Initial Spin-up of Gas Turbine (가스터빈 초기 구동용 시동시스템의 제동특성 연구)

  • Engine test as well as unload test of starting motor itself was performed to evaluate the braking characteristics of starting system used for initial spin-up of gas turbine for power generation. Through the experimental evaluation of the braking performance with the capacity of braking resistor of the starting motor, we have achieved quantitative data to secure robust braking characteristics in emergency during the starting period of the gas turbine. It is possible to establish a capacity selection criterion of braking resistor to ensure the starting reliability of the gas turbine.

  • This paper proposes integrated safety diagnosis system of motor used in a ship. It carried out the safety diagnosis for insulation-resistor and current. The motor exposed to sea breeze and oil all the time is able to have problems as a over-current, reduction of the insulation-resistor and so on. These problems impact on the safety navigation, and occur a heavy casualties and loss of property. The proposed system is able to sense error of the motor before a accident occur, by verifying and controlling value of the insulation-resistor and current in working area or control room. The validity of the proposed system is verified through experiment results on the 3-Phase induction motor.

  • In recent years, The tantalum nitride(TaN) thin-film has been developed for the electronic resistor and capacitor. In this papers, The effect of thermal annealing in the temperature range of 300∼700$^{\circ}C$ on the sheet resistor properties and microistructure of tantalum nitride(TaN) thin-film deposited by RF sputtering was studied. XRD(X-ray diffractometer) and AFM were used to observe electrical properties and microstructrue of the TaN film and sheet resistance. The TCR properties of the TaN films were discussed in terms of annealing temperature, ratio of nitrogen, crystallization and thin films surface morphology due to annealing temperature. The leakage current of the TaN thin film annealed 400 $^{\circ}C$ was stabilized in the study. How its was found that the sheet resistance in the polycrystalline TaN thin film decreased with increasing the annealing temperature above 600 $^{\circ}C$ after sudden peak upen 400 $^{\circ}C$.

Development of Fingertip Tactile Sensor for Detecting Normal Force and Slip

  • In this paper, we present the finger tip tactile sensor which can detect contact normal force as well as slip. The developed sensor is made of two different materials, such as polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) that is known as piezoelectric polymer and pressure variable resistor ink. In order to detect slip to surface of object, a PVDF strip is arranged along the normal direction in the robot finger tip and the thumb tip. The surface electrode of the PVDF strip is fabricated using silk-screening technique with silver paste. Also a thin flexible force sensor is fabricated in the form of a matrix using pressure variable resistor ink in order to sense the static force. The developed tactile sensor is physically flexible and it can be deformed three-dimensionally to any shape so that it can be placed on anywhere on the curved surface. In addition, we developed a tactile sensing system by miniaturizing the charge amplifier, in order to amplify the small signal from the sensor, and the fast signal processing unit. The sensor system is evaluated experimentally and its effectiveness is validated.

Effect of Binder Glass Crystallization on Electrical Properties in $RuO_2$-Thick Film Resistor

  • In thick film resistors, the characteristics of the frit and the reaction between glass frit and conductor material play an important role for their electrical properties. In this study, various glass frits in the system of $60RO{\cdot}20SiO_2$ $15B_2O_3{\cdot}5Al_2O_3$(RO=PbO, ZnO, CdO; mole%) were mixed with $RuO_2$ and coated on 96% alumina substrate. Only the glass frit containing PbO was reacted with $RuO_2$in$RuO_{2+}$-thick film resistor and produced the new crystalline phase of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$. Their electrical resistivities strongly depend on the amount of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$ crystalline phase obtained, which varied with firing temperature. The sheet resistivities of these resistors were varied from $10^3\; to\; 10^6\;{\Omega}/{\Box}$ depending on heat treatment, and the absolute value of TCR was decreased as the heat treatment temperature increaed. However, $RuO_2$ did not reacted with the glass frits containing ZnO nor CdO, and the resulting showed very high sheet resistivities.

  • Since the ultra-high voltage power apparatus are recommended to withstand switching surge generated from the electric power system, the switching impulse voltage is generally used to verify this requirement at the testing laboratories. Recently, the international standard(IEC 60060-2) related to the high voltage measurement techniques is revised requiring a traceability of measuring system for high voltage measurements. In this paper, a reference divider for switching impulse voltage is developed satisfying the revised. IEC standard and the possibility of applications has been investigated. Therefore, the characteristics of the high and low voltage side resistor and the shielding ring have been analyzed including the step response characteristics of the prototype divider. Throughout various efforts, it is confirmed that our measuring device has shown compatible characteristics as a reference divider.

  • Using the existing analog circuits, required resistor matching and Poly-Si TFT characteristics are investigated for the implementation of analog circuits to be integrated on System-on-Glass. Matching requirements on resistor values, threshold voltage and mobility of poly-Si TFT are derived as a function of the resolution of display system. Also, the effective mobility of poly-Si TFT required for the realization of source driver is analyzed for various panel sizes.
