This study was performed as a part of the research on the development of a maskless and electroless process for fabricating metal micro/nanostructures by using a nanoindenter and an electroless deposition technique. $2-{\mu}m$-deep indentation tests on Ni and Cu samples were performed. The elastic recovery of the Ni and Cu was 9.30% and 9.53% of the maximum penetration depth, respectively. The hardness and the elastic modulus were 1.56 GPa and 120 GPa for Ni and 1.51 GPa and 104 GPa for Cu. The effect of single-point diamond machining conditions such as the Berkovich tip orientation (0, 45, and $90^{\circ}$ ) and the normal load (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1, 3, and 5 mN), on both the deformation behavior and the morphology of cutting traces (such as width and depth) was investigated by constant-load scratch tests. The tip orientation had a significant influence on the coefficient of friction, which varied from 0.52-0.66 for Ni and from 0.46- 0.61 for Cu. The crisscross-pattern sample showed that the tip orientation strongly affects the surface quality of the machined are a during scratching. A selective deposition of Cu at the pit-like defect on a p-type Si(111) surface was also investigated. Preferential deposition of the Cu occurred at the surface defect sites of silicon wafers, indicating that those defect sites act as active sites for the deposition reaction. The shape of the Cu-deposited area was almost the same as that of the residual stress field.

Energy efficiency in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is very appealing research area due to serious constrains on resources like storage, processing, and communication power of the sensor nodes. Due to limited capabilities of sensing nodes, such networks are composed of a large number of nodes. The higher number of nodes increases the overall performance in data collection from environment and transmission of packets among nodes. In such networks the nodes sense data and ultimately forward the information to a Base Station (BS). The main issues in WSNs revolve around energy consumption and delay in relaying of data. A lot of research work has been published in this area of achieving energy efficiency in the network. Various techniques have been proposed to divide such networks; like grid division of network, group based division, clustering, making logical layers of network, variable size clusters or groups and so on. In this paper a new technique of group based WSNs is proposed by using some features from recent published protocols i.e. "Energy-Efficient Multi-level and Distance Aware Clustering (EEMDC)" and "Energy-Efficient Multi-level and Distance Aware Clustering (EEUC)". The proposed work is not only energy-efficient but also minimizes the delay in relaying of data from the sensor nodes to BS. Simulation results show, that it outperforms LEACH protocol by 38%, EEMDC by 10% and EEUC by 13%.

To establish the equitable distribution of total energy load, a representative cluster based routing protocol LEACH selects cluster heads randomly in accordance with the pre-determined probability every round. But because the current energy level of sensor nodes is not considered, if a sensor node which has little residual energy is elected as a cluster head, it can not live to fulfil the role of cluster head which has big energy load. As a result, the first time of death of a node is quickened and the service quality of WSN gets worse. In this regard we propose a new routing method that, by considering the current energy of a cluster head and the distance between cluster heads and a base station, selects the sub cluster head for saving the energy of a cluster head. Simulation results show that the first time of death of a node prolongs, more data arrive at the base station and the service quality of WSN improves.
Background: Orbital resorbable mesh plates are adequate to use for isolated floor and medial wall fractures with an intact bony buttress, but are not recommended to use for large orbital wall fractures that need load bearing support. The author previously reported an orbital wall restoring surgery that restored the orbital floor to its prior position through the transnasal approach and maintained temporary extraorbital support with a balloon in the maxillary sinus. Extraorbital support could reduce the load applied on the orbital implants in orbital wall restoring surgery and the use of resorbable implants was considered appropriate for the author's orbital wall restoring technique. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of 31 patients with pure unilateral orbital floor fractures between May 2014 and May 2018. The patients underwent transnasal restoration of the orbital floor through insertion of a resorbable mesh plate and maintenance of temporary balloon support. The surgical results were evaluated by the Hertel scale and a comparison of preoperative and postoperative orbital volume ratio (OVR) values. Results: The OVR decreased significantly, by an average of 6.01% (p<0.05) and the preoperative and postoperative Hertel scale measurements decreased by an average of 0.34 mm with statistical significance (p<0.05). No complications such as buckling or sagging of the implant occurred among the 31 patients. Conclusion: The use of resorbable mesh plate in orbital floor restoration surgery is an effective and safe technique that can reduce implant deformation or complications deriving from the residual permanent implant.

The static strength and fatigue crack resistance of the aircraft skin structures depend on the materials used and joint type. Most of the commercial aircraft's skin panel structures are made from aluminium alloy and carbon fibre reinforced epoxy. In this study, the fatigue resistance of four joint configurations (metal/metal, metal/composite, composite/composite and composite/metal) with riveted, adhesive bonded, and hybrid joining techniques are investigated with experiments and finite element analysis. The fatigue tests were tension-tension because of the typical nature of the loads on aircraft skin panels susceptible of experimenting fatigue. Experiment results suggest that the fatigue life of hybrid joints is superior to adhesive bonded joints, and these in turn much better than conventional riveted joints. Thanks to the fact that, for hybrid joints, the adhesive bond provides better load distribution and ensures load-carrying capacity in the event of premature adhesive failure while rivets induce compressive residual stresses in the joint. Results from FE tool ABAQUS analysis for adhesive bonded and hybrid joints agrees with the experiments. From the analysis, the energy release rate for adhesive bonded joints is higher than that of hybrid joints in both opening (mode I) and shear direction (mode II). Most joints show higher energy release rate in mode II. This indicates that the joints experience fatigue crack in the shear direction, which is responsible for crack opening.

PSC composite bridge with precast decks which was designed by the proposed horizontal shear equation was fabricated. Fatigue test was performed to evaluate the endurance of shear connection and the behavior of PSC composite bridge. After all the fatigue loading were applied, no crack and no residual slip were occurred. The flexural stiffness of PSC composite bridge was maintained the initial value, and demage of shear connection was not occurred. To verify the applicability of horizontal shear equation and shear connection detail and to evaluate the strength of PSC composite bridges, static test was also executed. PSC composite bridges with precast decks had 2.08 safety factor which was the ratio of crack to serviceability load and showed ductile behavior after ultimate load. Test results showed that the proposed design equation of the shear connection gave reasonable horizontal shear connection design. Fast and easy construction would be achieved using the suggested precast system.

Although line printing technology is capable of high-speed and large area printing, residual stresses generated during the manufacturing process can deform the feedhole, causing nozzle plate crack or ink leaks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new thermal inkjet print head that is robust, reliable and more suitable for line-printing. The amount of deformation of the conventional line printing head measured through the experiment was converted into an equivalent load, and the validity of the load estimation method was verified through FEA analysis. In addition, in order to minimize deformation without increasing the head size, the head structure was designed to increase internal rigidity by reinforcing the unit nozzle with a pillar or support wall or by adding a support beam or dry/wet etched bridge. The FEA analysis results show that the feedhole deformation was reduced by up to 90%, and it is confirmed that the suggested print head with dry etched feedhole bridge operates normally without nozzle plate cracks and ink leakage through fabrication.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the stress distribution at supporting bone according to the types of connection modality between implant and tooth in the superstrcture. This investigation evaluated the stress patterns in a photoelastic model produced by three different types of dental implants such as Branemark, Steri-Oss, IMZ and resin tooth using the techniques of quasi three dimensional photoelasticity. The teeth-supported bridge had a first molar pontic supported by second premolar and second molar as a control group. The implant and toothsupported bridge had a first molar pontic supported by second premolar and implant posterior retainer as an experimental group. Prostheses were mechanically connected to an adjacent second premolar by the rigid of nonrigid connection, Nonrigid connection used an attachment placed between the tooth-supported and fixture-supported component. The female(keyway) of attachment was placed on the distal end of the retainer supported by the tooth ; the male(Key) of attachment connected to the osseointegrated bridge was engaged into the keyway. All prostheses were casted in the same nonprecious alloy and were cemented and screwed on their respective abutments and implants. 16㎏ of vertical loads on central fossae of second premolar, first molar pontic, implant of second molar were applied respectively and 6.5㎏ of inclined load on middle buccal surface of first molar pontic was applied. The results were as follows : 1. Under the vertical load on the central fossa of first mloar pontic, the stress developed at the apex of tooth of implat was more uniformly distributed in the case of nonrigid connection than in the case of rigid connection. 2. Under the vertical load on the central fossa of first molar pontic, the stress developed around the cervical area of tooth of implant was larger in the case of rigid connection than in the case of nonrigid connection because the bending moment was more occured in the case of rigid connection than in the case of nonrigid connection. 3. Stress was more restricted to the loaded side of nonrigid connection than to that of rigid connection 4. Under the inclined load. The set screw loosening of implant was more easily occured in the case of nonrigid connection than in the case of rigid connection due to torque moment. 5. In the case of Branemark implant, the stress concentration in second premolar was larger and the stress developed around the cervical area of implant was lower than any other cases under the vertical load, because Branemark implant with the flexible gold screw was showed in incline toward second premolar by a bending moment. 6. The stress developed around the apex of tooth or implant was more uniformly distributed in the case of Steri-Oss implant with stiff screw than in the case of Branemark implant under the vertical load. But, the stress developed around the cervical area of the Steri-Oss implant was larger than that of any other implants because bending moment was occured by vertical migration of second premolar. 7. The stress distribution in the case of IMZ implant was similar to the case of natural teeth under small vertical load. But, the residual stress around the implant was showed to occurdue to deformation of IMC and sinking of screw under larger vertical load.

Inertia welding is a solid-state welding process in which butt welds in materials are made in bar and in ring form at the joint face, and energy required for welding is obtained from a rotating flywheel. The stored energy is converted to frictional heat at the interface under axial load. The quality of the welded joint depends on many parameters, including axial force, initial revolution speed and energy, amount of upset, working time, and residual stresses in the joint. Inertia welding was conducted to make the large rotor shaft for low speed marine diesel engine, alloy steel for shaft of 140mm. Due to different material characteristics, such as, thermal conductivity and flow stress, on the two sides of the weld interface, modeling is crucial in determining the optimal weld geometry and parameters. FE simulation was performed by the commercial code DEFORM-2D. A good agreement between the predicted and actual welded shape is observed. It is expected that modeling will significantly reduce the number of experimental trials needed to determine the weld parameters.
A study on the progressive inelastic deformation behavior of the 316 L stainless steel cylindrical structure with plate-to-shell junction under moving temperature front was carried out by structural test and analysis. The structural test intends to simulate the thermal ratcheting behavior occurring at the reactor baffle of the liquid metal reactor as free surface of hot sodium pool moves up and down under plant transients. The thermal ratchet load that heats the specimen up to 550$^{\circ}C$ was applied repeatedly and residual deformation was measured. The thermal ratcheting test was carried out with two types of cylindrical structures, one with plate to-shell junction and the other without the junction to investigate the effects of the geometric discontinuities on the global ratcheting deformation. The temperature distributions of the test specimens were measured and were used for the ratcheting analysis. The ratchet deformations were analyzed with the constitutive equation of the non-linear combined hardening model. The analysis results were in good agreement with those of the structural tests.
