Noise Characteristics of Improved Sirocco Fan for Range Hood (렌지 후드 용 개선된 시로코 홴의 소음특성 변화)

  • Recently, since structures have become extremely airtight with the development of high-rise apartments, mixed use residential and commercial buildings and offices, large capacity range hoods have become commonly implemented. However, the high noise level caused by this range hood system made of thin plate is the cause of increased complaints among users. In this study, the level of noise emitted from this type of range hood was measured by height at the user's location in the kitchen. It was confirmed that a great deal of noise was emitted in the downward direction of the hood. In order to minimize the noise emitted from this type of range hood, a new type of fan was manufactured. This was done by changing only the material and shape of the fan, since it was determined to be the primary source of noise emission. Then a comparison and evaluation were carried out regarding the noise characteristics between the new type of fan and the existing type of fan. As a result, it was confirmed that the noise from the new fan was reduced by more than 2 dB compared to the existing fan without noise interference at the discharge end.

Prediction and Evaluation of the Road Traffic Noise according to the Conditions of Road-side Building Using RLS-90 and CRTN Model (RLS-90 및 CRTN 모델에 의한 도로 인접건물에서의 도로소음 영향 예측 및 고찰)

  • Recently, reduction of road traffic noise in residential buildings has become one of the most important subjects. To reduce the road traffic noise, noise impact assessment by the road traffic prediction model is required before building construction. For reasonable road traffic noise prediction, it is required to analysis of various factors in road traffic prediction models. This paper was studied the road traffic noise propagation factors such as distance from road to building, receiver height, alignment angle of building and reflection coefficient of the building facade by two calculation models, RLS-90 and CRTN. The result showed that noise reduction was generally higher at bottom stories by ground absorption effect. The reflection coefficient of the building facade was affect of additional sound pressure level by facade reflecting. And alignment angle of building at $90^{\circ}$ was performed effective noise reduction better than $0^{\circ}$.

Environmental Noise Prediction using Scale Model: A Measurement Methodology

  • Today, rolling stock has become a fast and convenient mode of transportation and has witnessed increased demand. But the speed improvement has resulted in increased aerodynamic noise and therefore residential districts near the railroad tracks are exposed to ever increasing noise level. A study on methodologies for measuring and appraising rolling stock's environmental noise has therefore become an important area of endeavor. In the case of the environmental noise, there are no changes in tone so prediction can be made by reducing areas around the railway. The present study explores estimation of the noise around the railway using scale model, and the source of the noise has been investigated as well. The scale model of rolling stock will have to be able to measure high frequency noise and it is required to be generated in a short amount of time. Since popping a balloon or firing a gun fits this requirement the present study analyzed the characteristics of these two different noise sources. Measurement was made in a large vacant lot and the reflection due to the ground was also examined. The method proposed here can be used in the future for predicting the environmental noise of railway vehicles.

  • Highly damped insulation panel for transformer construction is needed in residential area because the making noise from transformer substation in inner city is appeared a lost of problem by increasing to conserve living environment. Therefor in this paper, the vibration and noise characteristic effect of cork-type and sponge-type that is attached between insulation panel and enforce beam in transformer is analized using real size transformer experimentally.

  • Many residential areas are situated near to railroad tracks so that a railroad noise has been one of the major environmental issues. In this paper two important aspects have been investigated in order to properly evaluate the railroad vehicle noise : sound power levels for different types and sound propagation characteristics of the railroad vehicles. For noise source characteristics of railroad vehicles, sound power values for various types of trains that are in active service have been measured. In this paper, domestic railroad vehicles are measured and compared with high speed train(TGV). Based on sound power information of railway vehicles, prediction on the sound pressure level and equivalent noise level near to railway areas have been evaluated.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an appropriate method for marking out a boundary line of area damaged by aircraft noise. In an actual situation, there are many gaps between the boundary line of aircraft noise contour and the boundary line of an occupant of a house. Three cases faced in practice are considered in this study. Case I is considered the land number together with sub-number. The Tong and Ban (the residential district number in Korea) are considered in Case II. In Case III, the configuration of ground is examined. The authors expect that the authority of aviation affairs should choose one of these cases and put in force in the near future.

  • Urban sound environments consists of various sound sources such as traffic noise, sounds of people and natural sounds affecting the perception of soundscape in a place. However, noise maps based on sound pressure levels could not distinguish different sound sources and limited to represent perception of acoustic environments. Accordingly, soundscape map based on perception of sounds is necessary to provide useful information for the description of the acoustic environment. Therefore, the aims of this study are to examine soundscape perception in different urban contexts including commercial, office, park and residential spaces and to suggest a method for soundscape maps using GIS techniques. Soundscape perceptions and physical characteristics of acoustic environments at various urban contexts were obtained from surveys and acoustic measurements, respectively. The results show that dominant factors affecting soundscape perceptions were different in urban contexts and spatial variations of urban soundscape are closely related to various urban contexts.

  • In evaluating sound performance of building, it is important to carry on tests and evaluations based upon residential sound performances. Korean Standards include test methods on sound performance, but don't include any code on evaluation methods. Therefore, evaluation methods from Japan or ISO have been used for evaluating sound performance in domestic so far. In this study, a draft of Korean Standards on a sound performance evaluation method in buildings is proposed.
