For this purpose, 822 housewives were collected from the households in Seoul and Chonju-City. The main results obtained are as follows. 1. A significant proportion of the urban households surveyed are observed to suffer from residential stressors. The components of residential stressors are housing facilities, family living space, social interaction with the neighborhoods, physical condition of house. 2. Among the factors that affect residential stress the most important household environment factors are, the level of family controllability, which is followed by the family adaptation ability, the size of living space, the level of life satisfaction, and the type of housing tenure. The results of this study implies that residential stress is associated with not only residential size but also the level of housing facilities and social interaction. • At this point in time South Korea is rapidly metastasizing to a aging society. A major cause of aging can be summarized as increased life expectancy, decrease of nuclear family and birthrate, and South Korea's progress is faster than any other country. From the 1970s, western society has changed social welfare to deinstitutionalization and community care because of problems about economic reason and facilities protection, so the type of elderly social service has also changed from the facility welfare service which is accommodated old people in certain facility to community welfare service which provides various welfare services with living together. Public facilities for low income group which are supported by government are lower, 6.6%, than the United States or Japan, 50%. They are divided into private manage facilities and subscription elderly facilities. These subscription elderly residential facilities show poor administration because of focusing on development and market analysis for investment returns. Therefore, in order to vitalize the elderly welfare residential facilities in Korea, we need plans about systematic services facilities for welfare and phased medical treatments. Therefore, the purpose of this study is that (1) the types and functions of residents for community elderly residential facilities in elderly welfare policies of U.S., and supported policies are researched as a transcendental model, (2) data about operating system with the principles of the market is analyzed, and (3) basic data about welfare facility plan for community residential elderly people is provided.

  • Before the application of the group art therapy program, children from residential care facilities had higher depression than those from ordinary families. After the application of the program, however, children from residential facilities to whom the program was applied showed significantly lower depression than those in residential care to whom the program was not applied. Still, they showed somewhat higher depression than children living in ordinary families. Nevertheless, children from residential facilities to whom the program was applied showed the largest reduction in depression. Consequently, group art therapy is considered effective in reducing the depression of children in residential care facilities.

  • The purpose of this research is to provide basic data for the promotion strategy to activate modular construction system as residential facilities, through a study on the architectural planning, institutions and policies and research on connection details, for the use as residential facilities of the modular construction that is not actively supplied for the general residential facilities. As a result, I suggest sample model plan of domestic and foreign case analysis and characteristic of modular construction and practical application of modular construction for Residential Facilities. Owing to many advantages including short construction period structural stability and economic benefits, modular construction is expected to play a role as residential alternative of socially controversial affordable housing and weekend homes, and potential housing shortage after reunification; and to contribute to the development of design automation and industrialized constructions. Though Korea is still lacking development of the system that meets the domestic context, if supported by ongoing researches on the development of construction methods, materials and details, the settlement of appropriate modular residential facilities to suit the national situation will serve a possible alternative solution for many housing and environmental problems.

  • Low-rise residential community is the most popular type (51%) of residential neighborhoods in Seoul. Currently, there is a shortage of public facilities needed for living conditions and the quality of life in low-rise residential areas. This study defines 'public facility' as infrastructure to improve the living environment and used by residents jointly in low-rise residential areas. In this regard, this study analyzes current legal and institutional standards, latest trends in public facility of apartments, and residents' demand and satisfaction level in order to find out the criteria for installation of priority public facilities. As a result, the essential facility basically conforms to the number of household which is the standard of the facility supply in apartment. However, considering the limitations on the accessibility due to low density, it should consider two standards at the same time: the number of household and distance (radius of neighborhood). In conclusion, it is necessary to install legally prescribed facilities according to the number of household and distance: 500 households facilities in 250m radius neighborhood and 1,000 households facilities in 400m radius neighborhood. Also, considering the reality of low-rise residential area, it is necessary to integrate some facilities that can be functionally linked to improve level of utility and efficiency of operation and management. It is expected that the output of this study can be applied to institutionalize of the legal basis for the public facility of low-rise residential community.

  • Almost 18,000 children were protected in 285 residential facilities all over the country in 2008 in Korea. The recent trends of the residential care include downsizing, and emphasizing independent living programs for aging out youths. Since the 1990s when the active research on the children in residential facilities has begun, the study focus has extended to the issues of developmental status and outcomes of the children, and recently, to the independency of the youths discharged from the facilities. The practical and policy issues are development of therapeutic programs for the children in care, increase of counseling staff, extension of programs for restoring children's relationship with their families, and planning of various policies to support the independence of discharged youths.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the actual condition of physical therapy in residential facilities for the disabled and determined the degree of job satisfaction of physical therapists. METHODS: In this study, data were collected using a structured questionnaire targeting 117 physical therapists (male: 49, female: 68) working in residential facilities for the disabled. The questionnaire consisted of 21 items, including six general characteristics, one job satisfaction, and 14 actual situation-related items. RESULTS: The job satisfaction of the physical therapists working in residential facilities for the disabled was 3.81 ± .83, which was between 'normal' and 'satisfactory'. One physical therapist worked in 91.5% of places. The physical therapy room was used only by the physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech therapist, and a nurse and other departments in 65.8%, 9.4%, and 23.1% of cases. On average, six to 10 patients per day were treated the most with 45.3%, followed by physical therapy alone at 19.7%, and work related to medical rehabilitation and other departments at 72.7%. A higher number of overtime hours and nurses resulted in lower job satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The job satisfaction of physical therapists working in residential facilities for the disabled was similar to those of physical therapists working in medical institutions, but the factors affecting the job satisfaction were different. Professionalism in physical therapy was not secured, and the relationships with colleagues were an important factor in increasing job satisfaction.
