Purpose - This study aims to assess six aspects of resident satisfaction (satisfaction with room, home, social interaction, meals service, staff care, and resident involvement) and to identify the most influential aspect of satisfaction upon word-of-mouth (WOM) intention in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Design/methodology/approach - A total of 293 paper survey questionnaires with a cover letter and postage paid envelopes were mailed to the CCRC residents. To test reliability and validity of the multidimensional resident satisfaction, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used. Then, the structural equation modeling technique (SEM) was applied to test causal relationship between resident satisfaction and WOM intention. Multiple regression was used to identify the most influential aspect of resident satisfaction on WOM intention in the CCRC. Findings - The results of EFA and CFA on the 157 responses received out of the total 293 surveys indicated that six dimensions of resident satisfaction were statistically distinct. Among the six dimensions, satisfaction with resident involvement, social interaction, and staff care significantly influenced their WOM intention. Furthermore, the most influential aspect of satisfaction upon WOM intention was resident involvement. Research implications or Originality - This study empirically tested the six dimensions of CCRC resident satisfaction, and identified resident involvement as the most influential factor upon WOM intention in a CCRC where WOM intentions plays a crucial role during the selection process of prospective residents.
This study aims to determine the correlation between the apartment resident community and housing satisfaction and suggest which factors can contribute to improving the local community's housing environment and satisfaction by means of the local inhabitants and apartment residents participating in co-managing the community. The study results are as follows. Firstly, the apartment resident community had a positive effect on housing satisfaction but the effects were insignificant. This revealed that residents' interest in communicating with the resident community was low due to various organizations such as the women's association, election committee, and autonomous society being used as means to pursue personal gain rather than the development of the entire apartment. Secondly, the vitalization of the apartment resident community had a positive effect on housing satisfaction. The analysis results showed that the higher the level of unity and volunteering activities of residents, the more improved the resident vitalization programs are being managed, and the higher the level of resident participation, the higher the housing satisfaction. Lastly, this study suggests the supplementation and upgrading of apartment community facilities into complex community facilities as a means to unify the residents and vitalize the resident community. To vitalize the resident community and strengthen the community spirit, the residents will need to voluntarily create a community hub by forming community-tailored associations and programs through connections with local governments and businesses.

Background: Nursing home resident care is an ongoing topic of public discussion, and there is great interest in improving the quality of resident care. This study investigated the association between nursing home employees' job satisfaction and residents' satisfaction with care and medical outcomes. Methods: Employee and resident satisfaction were measured by questionnaire in 175 skilled nursing facilities in the eastern United States from 2005 to 2009. Facility-level data on residents' pressure ulcers, medically unexplained weight loss, and falls were obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Long-Term Care Minimum Data Set. The association between employee satisfaction and resident satisfaction was examined with multiple and multilevel linear regression. Associations between employee satisfaction and the rates of pressure ulcers, weight loss, and falls were examined with simple and multilevel Poisson regression. Results: A 1-point increase in overall employee satisfaction was associated with an increase of 17.4 points (scale 0-100) in the satisfaction of residents and family members (p < 0.0001) and a 19% decrease in the incidence of resident falls, weight loss, and pressure ulcers combined (p < 0.0001), after adjusting for staffing ratio and percentage of resident-days paid by Medicaid. Conclusion: Job satisfaction of nursing home employees is associated with lower rates of resident injuries and higher resident satisfaction with care. A supportive work environment may help increase quality of care in the nation's nursing homes.
This study investgates the factors influencing the levels of consumer satisfaction and life satisfaction of resident foreigners in Korea. The data were collected through a structured self-administered survey and 545 foreigners who lived in Korea for more than 3 months, with age over 20 participated as respondents. A research framework was formulated based on the resource constraint hypothesis and the study investigated the impact of information resource(human, media and internet information source) and consumer resource(monthly income, language ability and consumer proficiency) on the levels of consumer satisfaction and life satisfaction. The results from data analysis can be summarized as follows; First, analysis of consumer problems of resident foreigners in Korea indicated that resident foreigners recognize a burden for residence cost, food expense and education fee. Most of resident foreigners in Korea are found to use small local shops most often indicating they may experience adverse market environment due to resource constraint such as language or psychological barrier, and most of the respondents answered that the most often used payment method was cash. Furthermore, resident foreigners in Korea responded that lack of language service, lack of information provision, inability to use certain goods and services are the common cause of consumer dissatisfaction, as well as price and quality problems. Second, the level of consumer satisfaction (2.96 in 4.0) is higher than the level of life satisfaction (2.63 in 4.0). Third, the level of life satisfaction is significantly influenced by Korean language ability and the level of consumer satisfaction. The level of consumer satisfaction is by the media information source usage and consumer claim experience. Fourth, the level of consumer satisfaction is found to be the variable with the strongest causal relationship with the level of life satisfaction.
Purpose: The study was performed to compare the contents of jobs and job satisfaction of resident nurses at free elderly homes with nursing homes in Korea. Method: The subjects consisted of 138 resident nurses at free elderly homes and nursing homes. Data were collected from the 1st of January to the 22nd of February in 2005 using a structured questionnaire containing questions on general characteristics. contents of the nurses' daily tasks, health program. job satisfaction and pay satisfaction. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS (version 11.5) through descriptive statistics, $X^2-test$, t-test and ANOVA. Result: For nurses at free elderly homes and nursing homes. their daily tasks consisted of health assessment. medication care and eating care. The general job satisfaction of the nurses was similar between those at free elderly homes and those at nursing homes, but working conditions and pay were significantly different according to the sub content of job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was significantly different according to marital status in resident nurses at the free elderly home, and according to the experience of living with the elderly and the experience of receiving special training or lectures in elderly nursing in resident nurses at free nursing homes. Conclusion: Resident nurses at free elderly homes and nursing homes had various types of tasks, and it is necessary to differentiate tasks and payment systems for them according to their job.
Urban design is a specific and detailed action plan which regulates from the development plan to the architectural characteristics of every building and now many new towns by Urban design has been developed after 2000. But recently doubts about the effectiveness of Urban design have been raised in locals. The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of urban design in terms of residents, through case study and the survey of resident's satisfaction on Urban design guidelines. The result of survey of resident's satisfaction on Urban design were above-average satisfaction. And main factors influencing to the resident's satisfaction are the public infrastructure factors, transportation factors, development density factors, and pedestrian environment factors, urban landscape factors. And the total satisfaction was most influenced by the public infrastructure factors among the five factors. To improve the effectiveness of urban design, it is necessary to build specific planning and guidelines to the general.
This research analyzes the types of resident's satisfaction and the preferred rental housing types in Gwangju. The results are summarized as follows : This study devided the characters of resident's satisfaction into four factors and classified the types of residents into three specific groups by the factors of resident's satisfaction : high dwelling density and management improvement demanding type, medium size and general satisfaction type, environmental improvement demanding type The first type includes the lowest income group and relatively high income group coincidently. They need wider living space or want improvement of the level of management service. The second type omnipresently satisfies not only medium sized living space but also other items. This type will be regarded as the inducement standard for the rental housing policy. The third type includes the lowest group in economic and physical level who wants the general upgrade of living space and management level. And, residents need long-term rental housing and wider housing area by 5 pyong.
The objective of this study was to analyze the evaluation of the rural resident's on their community at view of community life satisfaction. The specific purposes of this study were to identify the degrees of community life satisfaction, consciousness of rural community according to the individual variables. The data were gathered from 1,870 rural residents by the structured interview in the 187 communities sampled by multi-staged cluster stratified sampling method in November, 2003. The major findings of this study were as follows; first, the degree of the rural residents'community life satisfaction was generally low, especially the rural residents were dissatisfied with the opportunities of leisure and education environment in their communities, and by half were satisfied with housing environment. Second, as consciousness of rural community, the degree of rural resident's joining at community meeting was high, and openness to the outside residents' was high. third, the most important factor for consciousness of rural community were community organization, good neighbor. As result of this study, the following conclusion and recommend can be drawn. First, the level of rural resident's community life satisfaction is overall low. Especially it is needed policy efforts and priority investment for advancing satisfaction on leisure and education environment in rural community. Second, to foster rural resident's community consciousness, community orgaruzatlon Is first of all supported and activated. Through viability of these community organization, rural resident's participation in community welfare will be enhanced
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the differences on perceived health status, Activities of Daily Livings (ADL), social support, and residential satisfaction between long-term care hospitals and nursing homes. Methods: Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews conducted from March 29 to April 22, 2011. The subjects were 66 old adults in 3 long-term care hospitals and 53 old adults in 6 nursing homes. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation analysis and t-tests. Results: ADL and subjective health status in nursing homes were worse than those in long-term hospitals, but it was not statistically significant (p>.05). Old adults in nursing homes received more emotional support from other residents and staff, and received more instrumental support from staff than those in long-term care hospitals (p<.001). The mean scores of resident satisfaction in long-term care hospitals and nursing homes were 3.53 ($SD={\pm}0.36$) and 3.97 ($SD={\pm}0.44$), respectively. Resident satisfaction in nursing homes significantly was higher than long-term care hospitals (p<.001). Conclusion: Health care personnels in long-term care hospitals should enhance resident satisfaction and social support and need to coordinate long-stay patients with nursing homes.
The purpose of the study was to compare patient's satisfaction on the pharmacy services after introducing the new system of separation of dispensing from prescribing medicines, between those filling their prescriptions from the pharmacy nearby hospitals and those from the pharmacy in their resident areas. To measure patient's satisfaction, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 354 outpatients who received prescriptions from any of the three university hospitals located in In-Cheon city. Study results showed that geographic accessibility to pharmacy was a main attribute to select pharmacy. Size of the pharmacy and availability of prescription drugs are the second major reasons for pharmacy selection for the patients from the pharmacy nearby hospital, whereas patronage is the second major reason for those from the pharmacy in resident areas. Overall satisfaction was higher among the patients from the pharmacy in resident areas than those from the pharmacy nearby hospitals, mainly due to better facilities(waiting area, public telephone, etc), kindness, cleanliness, shorter waiting time, and pharmacist's concern about patient's health. On the other hand, the patients of the pharmacy nearby hospitals showed low satisfaction because of long waiting time and the lack of pharmacist's knowledge and information about patients' health status and medication history. Patients visiting the hospital that has pharmacy-hospital cooperation system showed higher satisfaction as compared to those visiting the hospital without such system. This study provided an empirical evidence that it would be more advantageous for patients to receive pharmacy services from pharmacies located in their living areas than from pharmacies nearby hospitals. This implies that there is a strong need for adequate strategies to enhance the role of pharmacies in resident areas under the new system of separation of dispensing from prescribing medications.
