  • A study has been made prior to the emphatic research to see how the curriculum of the Library Science Departments, in general, has developed to date. In the principles of the composition of the curriculum of library science, research has been conducted to determine what decisions will be the most appropriate for the changing trend of the society, regarding the matters of general specialization versus subject specialization education, the definition, change and operation of the core subject, the expansion of the elective specialized subjects and the composition of the curriculum by types of the library, and the curriculum composition in terms of subject specilization. The curriculum should consist of a unified series of courses and other educational experiences, designed to meet specific program objectives. Principles and concepts should be emphasized, over routines and techniques. All students should study certain fundamental 'core' subjects, as well as more specialized electives. General education (studies outside of librarianship) should be a major component of the total education of the librarian. Fundamental core subjects should be treated as introductory courses covering deep studies that can provide the most inclusive information related to the library science field. They should be offered as pre-requisites required of all the students entering the Department of Library Science. Specialized subjects and interdisciplinary courses comprising subject concentration should be offered as electives at the advanced level.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between women's shoes wearing trait and their foot shape. 203 women in their twenties were participated in the experiment. The subjects' feet were measured with a 3D foot scanner and their foot shapes were classified into five types by factor analysis and cluster analysis in the previous study. In addition to the five foot types, three foot types classified by foot index were also utilized for this study. This study analyzed the trait of their shoe wearing and the areas of discomfort on the foot when they wore shoes. The results of the experiment show that the size of shoe size-foot size mismatching and the foot areas of discomfort wearing shoes were differentiate by foot types. It shows that the subjects with long foot, wide fore foot shape, or fore foot angle deformity wore larger size shoes than their foot size. The foot areas of discomfort with wearing shoes were different according to the foot types. Subjects with wide fore foot shape or fore foot angle deformity had discomfort at the front shoe area. The subjects with straight toes had the least discomfort. The foot discomfort areas differentiated according to foot index type. The foot types with wide ball width experienced discomfort at the front of the ball and the top of the foot.

  • This research was accomplished to analyze the preference and the actual using patterns of the bakery products using functional ingredients by subjects' age. This survey was examined by the self-administered questionnaire method for 374 female subjects in Suwon. All respondents preferred breads than confectionaries with functional ingredients. As for the products of cooking ingredients, cookies, roll-cake, cake, chocolate, the preference of teenagers was higher than those of the other groups. Subjects preferred potatoes, fruits, rice and green tea as functional ingredients. Over thirties showed the high preference over beans, vegetables, mushrooms, ginseng and oriental herbs while fruits were highly preferred in teenagers and twenties. The ratio of using the bakery products with functional ingredients once or twice a week was higher in over thirties than those of the other groups. Subjects answered that they generally spent $3,000won\sim5,000won$ on those products. Functionality of products was considered as the more important factor in thirties than in the other groups. The lack of information about these products and functional ingredients was reported by teenagers and twenties. These results would be basic data for marketing or improvement of baking products with functional ingredients.

  • Background: Few comparative studies have been conducted on strengthening the anterior and posterior muscles of the trunk via lumbar stabilization exercises. Objectives: To compare the effects of forward leaning exercise and supine bridging exercise in stability exercise. Design: Randomized controlled clinical trial (single blind). Methods: Thirty subjects with spondylolisthesis were participated in this study. Fifteen subjects performed the bridging exercises and fifteen subjects performed the forward leaning exercises. Each exercise was held for ten seconds per repetition, and four repetitions were considered one sub-session. A total of four sub-sessions were performed in one full exercise session. The full exercise session required thirty minutes, including rest time. Trunk strength and range of motion and Oswestry disability index were measured. Results: Two weeks later, trunk flexion strength and trunk extension range of motion were significantly increased in the forward leaning exercise group than in the supine bridging group, trunk extension strength were significantly increased in the supine bridging exercise group than in the forward leaning group. After two weeks, the pain score was significantly lower in the forward leaning exercise group than in the supine bridging group. Conclusion: This study has shown that stabilization exercises are effective in increasing range of motion and strength in spondylolisthesis subjects. It was especially confirmed that the method of strengthening the anterior muscles of the trunk is more effective than the standard stabilization exercise method.

  • Background: The myofascial release technique is known to be an effective technique for increasing posterior fascia flexibility in short hamstring syndrome (SHS) subjects. But therapeutic mechanism of myofascial relaxation remains unclear. Recently, the theory of autonomic nervous system domination has been raised, however, a proper study to test the theory has not been conducted. Objectives: To investigate whether the application of the myofascial release technique can induce changes in the autonomic nervous system and affect the secretion of stress hormones and myofascial relaxation. Design: Quasi-experimental study. Methods: Twenty-four subjects with SHS were randomly divided into two groups. In the experimental group, the suboccipital muscle inhibition (SMI) technique was applied to the subjects for 4 min in supine position, and in the control group, the subjects were lying in the supine position only. A forward flexion distance (FFD) was conducted, blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels were measured before and after the intervention and 30 min after intervention to determine myofascial relaxation and stress hormone levels. The evaluation was conducted separately in blind by an evaluator. Results: A FFD decreased in the experimental group, no change in cortisol was observed. On the contrary, a decrease in cortisol appeared in the control group after 30 minutes. Conclusion: The myofascial release technique is an effective treatment to increase the range of motion through posterior superior myofascial chain, but there is no evidence that myofascial release technique can control the autonomic nervous system.
