  • Recent progress in cellular reprogramming technology and lineage-specific cell differentiation has provided great opportunities for translational research. Because virus-based gene delivery is not a practical reprogramming protocol, protein-based reprogramming has been receiving attention as a safe way to generate reprogrammed cells. However, the poor efficiency of the cellular uptake of reprogramming proteins is still a major obstacle. Here, we reported key factors which improve the cellular uptake of these proteins. Purified red fluorescent proteins fused with 9xLysine (dsRED-9K) as a cell penetrating peptide were efficiently delivered into the diverse primary cells. Protein delivery was improved by the addition of amodiaquine. Furthermore, purified dsRED-9K was able to penetrate all cell lineages derived from mouse embryonic stem cells efficiently. Our data may provide important insights into the design of protein-based reprogramming or differentiation protocols.

  • Research related to Web-based learning (WBL) has grown exponentially in the last decade. Scholars have explored a variety of areas related to WBL, including techniques, strategies and best practices. One area of particular interest to scholars is the potential of WBL to support and facilitative collaborative learning. Despite the continued exploration, there continues to be a concern related to the theoretical foundations of WBL. The purpose of this article is to explore how different theories may be used to guide research and inform practice in online collaborative learning. We integrate the major points drawn from current research and theory from a variety of perspectives so as to gain a better understanding of how learning is enabled by asynchronous modes of online collaborative learning. We then use this understanding to identify opportunities and challenges for theory development and research in WBL.

  • Rapidly shifting to aging population is a global trend, and one of the challenging issue for the government, business and welfare perspective. In this paper, we focus on application potentials of information and communication technologies, to capture the insights for effectively coping with population aging issue. As the research for silver ICT field is rather limited, we adopt case study research method to extract policy implications and related foundation research agenda. As such, we first investigated comprehensive up-to-date trends, cases for innovative ICT applications, and policy initiatives mainly from the works of OECD nations. With reference to the review findings, we propose policy implications and guidelines for ICT innovations which contributes better quality of life and continuing job opportunities for silver population. The results provides insights for government policy initiative and further research in silver ICT area.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between job creation and ICT usage in service industries. This research is particularly important because job creation is one of the most critical issues for the country. With technology innovation and system integration, manufacturing industries do not create enough employment, therefore, the society relies on service industries for creating job opportunities. Until now, due to limitations, analysis of job creation in service industries through ICT usage has not been investigated in depth. Thus, development of an effective ICT support policy was impossible. In this research, we used seven methods to investigate overall relationship between ICT usage level and job creation. A rule of large numbers has been applied to reach conclusion. Through this research, the government can focus its investment on service industries where job creation rate is the highest. We can expect both reinforcement in competitiveness of our service industry and continuous creation in employment, eventually leading to a virtuous cycle.

  • ICT based convergence application is one of the most prevalent industrial issue these days. Despite of criticalness and potential economic opportunities of the ICT based convergence, theoretical research to analyze the feasibility and estimate the economic impact of the application is rather limited. This paper is intended to fill this research gap. In this respect, we develop theoretical framework to quantitatively estimate the differential benefits of convergent applications, which necessarily include underling ICT technology's contribution attributes extractions, and resulting value increments engendered from user's process effectiveness when ICT based service application is adopted. The research model to assess the differential value of the ICT based service application is developed, grounded on theoretical framework of TPC (Technology-to-performance chain) and contingency fit theories. Scenario based survey method is adopted, and SmartPLS 2.0. is used for statistical analysis of the structural equation model using 312 questionnaire. Valid statistical results are presented to provide useful insight.

  • Use of information technology in providing efficient library services is inevitable in today's information world. Its implementation causes many challenges for all the stake holders. This study is an attempt to identify challenges faced by university libraries of Pakistan in information technology adoption. To elucidate the research problem, a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods was used. Valid returned questionnaires (N=52) and recorded interviews of 51 LIS professionals with experience in library automation were analyzed to draw the results. The study determined that 'lack of training opportunities for LIS professionals' and 'lack of IT skills among the majority of LIS professionals' are major challenges to the adaptation of IT. Similarities were found in the results of this study and some previous studies conducted at national and international levels.

  • Since the Human Genome Project(HGP) has begun in the mid 1980s, the sequencing of the human genome has been finally completed in 2001. The knowledge developed from the HGP has revolutionized how health care professionals think about patient care, mandating a new paradigm of patient care in totally inconceivable ways from the past. For instance, the patients at risk for disease can be identified early enough for intervention; the medicine can be tailored for individual patients based on their own genetic information ; the gene therapy could be a common procedure in the near future. The advancement in genetics, therefore, requires the shift of paradigm not only in nursing education, practice, but also in nursing research. It is attempted, in this article to introduce briefly the basic knowledge of genetics, the pharmacogenomics, and the overview of national genetic research initiated and organized by the Center for Functional Analysis of Human Genome in Korea. The current state of nursing genetic knowledge and its implications on nursing education, practice, and research has examined. Furthermore, the visions and the opportunities for nursing science and practice to participate in this genetic revolution were also explored.

  • Railway system which has latent loss of lives and property by big accident with that human error such as locomotive driver, manager, signaller, and the others involved. So human error management is needed to control this complex system and to confirm safety of it. Rail human error research for managing human resource has grown rapidly in both quantity and quality of output over the past few years. The continual influences of safety concerns, new technical system opportunities, reorganization of the business, needs to increase effective, reliable and safe use of capacity, and increased society, media and government interest have now accelerated rail human factors research programmes in several countries. The objective of this research is to improve safety and to reduce accidents in korean railway system, through the application of research results to the investigation of requirement for human error.

  • Mitochondria are cytosolic organelles essential for generating energy and maintaining cell homeostasis. Despite their critical function, the handful of proteins expressed by the mitochondrial genome is insufficient to maintain mitochondrial structure or activity. Accordingly, mitochondrial metabolism is fully dependent on factors encoded by the nuclear DNA, including many proteins synthesized in the cytosol and imported into mitochondria via established mechanisms. However, there is growing evidence that mammalian mitochondria can also import cytosolic noncoding RNA via poorly understood processes. Here, we summarize our knowledge of mitochondrial RNA, discuss recent progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms and functional impact of RNA import into mitochondria, and identify rising challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.
