  • Highly oriented diamond (HOD) films in polycrystalline can be grown on the (100) silicon substrate by microwave plasma CVD. Bias enhanced nucleation (BEN) method was adopted for highly oriented diamond deposition with high nucleation density and uniformity. The substrate was biased up to -250[Vdc] and bias time required for forming a diamond film was varied up to 25 minutes. Diamond was deposited by using $\textrm{CH}_4$/CO and $H_2$ mixture gases by microwave plasma CVD. Nucleation density and degree of orientation of the diamond films were studied by SEM. Thermal conductivity of the diamond films was ∼5.27[W/cm.K] measured by $3\omega$ method.

  • According to the advancement of computer and simulation method, it becomes possible to predict indoor climate precisely by using CFD simulation coupled with heat conduction, convection, and radiation. However, predicting the indoor climate is generally conducted by using a simplified CFD coupled simulation method since it takes quite long time to use a general CFD simulation method. In this study, a simplified CFD coupled simulation was conducted in order to find out the effect of natural ventilation by wind-driven in atrium. As a result of calculation, it was clarified that the natural ventilation driven by temperature difference was not enough to remove the accumulated heat of upper zone and the natural ventilation by wind-driven was needed. Finally, it is required to decide the window direction and size based on correct indoor climate prediction method for the effective use of natural ventilation by wind-driven.

  • In the application of the BIPV system, it is expected that the workability is lowered due to the difficulty in securing the space for wiring in the frame and the performance of the frame due to the wiring hole processing is lowered. Therefore, In this study, we propose a method to improve the wiring of the inner space of the BIPV frame, and through the simulation evaluation process, the thermal and condensation performance are secured by complementing the problems caused by the hole machining, and the time and effort required for BIPV construction are reduced. For this purpose, a wiring treatment method using a flange insertion tube was proposed, and the thermal and condensation performance was evaluated through simulation analysis.

  • This paper examines the efficiency of the application of conventional and insulated gang forms for curing and protection of concrete by comparing the amount of electric energy required therefor. In addition, a thermal vision camera was used to identify heat loss from surfaces of the gang forms after each placement of concrete. Experimental results, show that the heat loss at the submerged temperature was large at the submerged surface due to the large calorific value at the surface of the mold. The insulated gang form had some heat loss in the horizontal bars. In the case of adiabatic reforming, the pattern shows a constant calorific value over time. In conclusion, the insulation performance is better than that of general gang form.

  • This study investigates the thermal post-buckling behavior of concrete eccentric annular sector plates reinforced with graphene oxide powders (GOPs). Employing the minimum total potential energy principle, the plates' stability and response under thermal loads are analyzed. The Haber-Schaim foundation model is utilized to account for the support conditions, while the transform differential quadrature method (TDQM) is applied to solve the governing differential equations efficiently. The integration of GOPs significantly enhances the mechanical properties and stability of the plates, making them suitable for advanced engineering applications. Numerical results demonstrate the critical thermal loads and post-buckling paths, providing valuable insights into the design and optimization of such reinforced structures. This study presents a machine learning algorithm designed to predict complex engineering phenomena using datasets derived from presented mathematical modeling. By leveraging advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques, the algorithm effectively captures and learns intricate patterns from the mathematical models, providing accurate and efficient predictions. The methodology involves generating comprehensive datasets from mathematical simulations, which are then used to train the machine learning model. The trained model is capable of predicting various engineering outcomes, such as stress, strain, and thermal responses, with high precision. This approach significantly reduces the computational time and resources required for traditional simulations, enabling rapid and reliable analysis. This comprehensive approach offers a robust framework for predicting the thermal post-buckling behavior of reinforced concrete plates, contributing to the development of resilient and efficient structural components in civil engineering.

  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is an alternative treatment for liver cancer to the surgical intervention preferred by surgeons. However, the main challenge remains the use of RF for the ablation of large tumours (i.e., tumours with a diameter of >3 cm). For large tumours, RFA takes a large duration in the ablation process compared with surgery, which increases patient pain. Therefore, RFA for large tumours is not preferred by surgeons. The currently materials used in RF electrodes, such as the nickeltitanium alloy (nitinol), are characterized by low thermal and electrical conductivities. On the other hand, the use of materials that have high thermal and electrical conductivities, such as titanium aluminide alloy (gamma titanium), produces more thermal energy for tumours. In this paper, we developed a cool-tip RF electrode model that uses nickel-titanium alloy and replaced it with titanium aluminide alloy by using the finite element model (FEM). The aim of this paper is to study the effect of the thermal and electrical conductivities of gamma titanium on the ablation volume. Results showed that the proposed design of the electrode increased the ablation rate by 1 cm3 /minute and 6.3 cm3/10 minutes, with a decrease in the required time ablation. Finally, the proposed model reduces the ablation time and damages healthy tissue while increasing the ablation volume from 22.5% cm3 to 62.5% cm3 in ten minutes compared to recent studies.

  • The paper attempts to estimate the incubation time of a cavity in the interface between a power law creep particle and an elastic matrix subjected to a uniaxial stress. Since the power law creep particle is time dependent, the stresses in the interface relax. The volume free energy associated with Helmholtz free energy includes strain energies caused by applied stress and dislocations piled up in interface(DPI). The energy due to DPI is found by modifying the result of Dundurs and Mura[4]. The volume free energies caused by both applied stress and DPI are a function of the cavity size(r) and elapsed time(t) and arise from stress relaxation in the interface. Critical radius $r^*$ and incubation time $t^*$ to maximise Helmholtz free energy is found in present analysis. Also, kinetics of cavity formation are investigated using the results obtained by Riede [7]. The incubation time is defined in the analysis as the time required to satisfy both the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions. Through the analysis it is found that 1) strain energy caused by the applied stress does not contribute significantly to the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions of a cavity formation, 2) in order to satisfy both thermodynamic and kinetic conditions, critical radius $r^*$ decreases or holds constant with increase of the time until the kinetic condition(eq. 2.3) is satisfied. there for the cavity may not grow right after it is formed, as postulated by Harris [15], and Ishida and Mclean [16], 3) the effects of strain rate exponent (m), material constant $\sigma$0, volume fraction of the particle to matrix(f)and particle size on the incubation time are estimated using material constants of the copper as matrix.

  • The solar cell system operates by facing the sun-light. Minor cracks, static discharge, and thermal shock that can happen during production/testing phase can lead to degradation in performance during operation, since solar cells are exposed to extreme thermal/mechanical environment in space. In order to detect small cracks and internal damages in the solar cells due to thermal shocks, which are the core units of a solar cell system, expensive equipment, complicated test process, and much time are required. Therefore, a qualitative method for easily and quickly testing the 'health' of solar cell functionality is required. This dissertation describes a theoretical and technical grounds for quickly and easily evaluating the health of solar cells using electroluminescence effect of Gallium-Arsenide solar cells that are most widely used by spacecrafts in recent years. Also described in the dissertation is the technical issues and constraining factors for applying the proposed method to actual space-rated solar cell systems.

  • To guarantee 20-25 years to the lifetime of the PV modules without failure, reliability test of the module is very important. Field-aged test of the outdoor environment is required. However, due to time constraints, accelerated testing is required to predict the lifetime of PV modules and find causes of failure. Failure is caused by many complex phenomena. In this study, we experimented two accelerated tests about corrosion and fatigue, respectively. First, temperature cycling test for fatigue were tested and Coffin-Manson equation was analyzed. Second, damp heat test for corrosion were tested and Eyring equation were analyzed. Finally, using two-mode failure model, we suggest a new lifetime model that analyze the phenomenon by combining two kinds of data.

  • Phosphors with oxide host material, YAG:$Ce^{3+}$ and $(Ca,Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ yellow phosphor, has been used for LED applications. The WLEDs using these phosphors are widely used for LCD backlighting, automobile, and general lighting applications since they have high conversion efficiency and good thermal and chemical stability which can meet necessary life time of LED products up to now. With advances of LED chip technology, the external quantum efficiency and driving current in chip get higher so that the phosphors for high power chip are required to maintain high conversion efficiency and stability at high temperature due to the heat dissipated from LED chips. In addition, higher color rendering index of LED lighting and color reproducibility of LCD than those of LEDs with single yellow phosphors are required. In order to overcome these technical issues rising from evolution of LED technology, new phosphors are in demand and nitride phosphors, one of the promising new candidate materials, will be discussed here.
