Falls are a leading cause of injury, disability and death among people older than 65. Even without injury, falls cause a loss of confidence that results in reduced physical activity, increased dependency and social withdrawal. Fall prevention in the eldery people is a multifaced task that includes both the identification of risk factors and their modification strategies. Fall risk factors have been identified as both intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic factors are those related to the physical and cognitive function of the person. Extrinsic factors are those which are included in the environmental hazards of everyday life. Combinations of interventions aimed at modifying both intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors can result in significant fall prevention in the geriatric population. This article selectively reviews the literature reporting exercise intervention to improve strength, balance and mobility.

One of the primary means of achieving global competitiveness is to reduce the COPQ(Cost of Poor Quality). Although the definition of COPQ is not unanimously declared, it is known to be very high but underestimated by the hidden costs due to non-value activities. In any manufacturing or service operations, all actions and resource expenditures should be focused on creating value for customers. Any activity or resource of not creating the value for customers could be regarded as waste, which consequently causes the COPQ. In this paper, a management system is developed for evaluating and reporting the COPQ based on the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) roadmap.

Marine microorganisms have a diverse range of enzymatic activity and are capable of catalyzing various biochemical reactions with diverse enzymes. There have been several studies reporting that various sulfatases isolated from such bacteria as Klebsiella pneumoniae (Miech et al., 1998), Salmonella typhimurium (Henderson and Milazzo, 1979; Murooka and Harada, 1981), Serratia marcescens (Murooka et al., 1980), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(Delisle and Milazzo, 1970), and Comamonas terigena(Fitzgerald and Cline, 1977). In order to examine the presence of brassinosteroid substance in sea mustard(Undaria pinnatifida), leaves of sea mustard were extracted with MeOH. The extract was purified by slovent fractionation, counter current distribution, silica gel adsorption chromatography, charcoal adsorption chromatography, Bondesil chromatography, and reverse phase HPLC, successively. The activity was monitored by the rice inclination test and its prescence could be confirmed in each purification step. Although sea mustard contained a less amount of the active substance than the vegetative tissue of higher plants, brassinosteroid was clearly present endogenously in sea mustard. We acknowledge that our work is probably the first publication reporting the presence of brassinosteroid in marine algae plants.
One of the primary means of achieving global competitiveness is to reduce the COPQ in our business units. Although the COPQ is not known precisely, it is known to be very high. Also, it may be underestimated by the hidden costs due to non-value added activities, such as potential lost sales, costs of redesign due to quality reasons, and extra manufacturing costs due to defects, etc. In any manufacturing or service operation, all actions and resource expenditures of a company should be focused on creating value for customers. Any activity or resource of not creating the value for customers could be regarded as waste, which consequently causes the COPQ. In this paper, a management system is developed for evaluating and reporting the COPQ in our business units, based on the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) roadmap.
Background: Inflammation is a host-defensive innate immune response to protect the body from pathogenic agents and danger signals induced by cellular changes. Although inflammation is a host-defense mechanism, chronic inflammation is considered a major risk factor for the development of a variety of inflammatory autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatic diseases. Rheumatic diseases are systemic inflammatory and degenerative diseases that primarily affect connective tissues and are characterized by severe chronic inflammation and degeneration of connective tissues. Ginseng and its bioactive ingredients, genocides, have been demonstrated to have antiinflammatory activity and pharmacological effects on various rheumatic diseases by inhibiting the expression and production of inflammatory mediators. Methods: Literature in this review was searched in a PubMed site of National Center for Biotechnology Information. Results: The studies reporting the preventive and therapeutic effects of ginseng and ginsenosides on the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases were discussed and summarized. Conclusion: Ginseng and ginsenosides play an ameliorative role on rheumatic diseases, and this review provides new insights into ginseng and ginsenosides as promising agents to prevent and treat rheumatic diseases.
The purpose of this study is to develop the analysis frame of reporting observation results by high school students in biology experiments using microscopes and analyze their error types. For this study, five experiments were carried out by 12 high school students in B metropolitan city. Before these experiments, developed the analysis frame of reporting observation results. Tests for checking prior knowledge of students were done and results of each experiment were taken picture of. Using the developed framework, the real results and reported results submitted by students were analyzed. The result of this study shows how students report their observation results and they tend to have difficulty in doing observation activity itself. The ratio of factual reports is low because observation ways and recording ways have not been taught properly. Observation training is needed for observing real results objectively. The improvement in experiment environment is necessary for right observation, not observation for checking based on only results. In addition, the education of ethics in science research focusing on the integrity should be performed. The analysis data of reporting observation result by students can be used as basic data for teachers to plan observation strategies and to have right observation views and ways.
Annex I parties continued its consideration of how to address, the definitions, modalities, rules and guidelines for the treatment of Land Use, Land-use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) in the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol by the year of 2009. In the AWG-KP conference held in Accra, Ghana in 2008, four alternatives (gross-net carbon accounting, net-net with base year or base period accounting, net-net with forward looking baseline accounting, and land-based accounting method) for negotiations were decided in order to revise gross-net accounting method applied during the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. In this study, alternative scenarios are set in consideration with reporting system (voluntary or compulsory), discount factors and cap about these three alternatives except for the method of net-net with forward looking baseline accounting, and then estimates the Removal Unit (RMU) among the countries. In the case that article 3.4 activities under the Kyoto Protocol revises from voluntary reporting to mandatory reporting, it is estimated that the loss of RMU would be huge in Russia, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Canada potentially. Net-net with base year or base period carbon accounting and land-based carbon accounting method have big difference of RMU in accordance with the base year or the base period. So the more unfavorable the country with a lot of old-age forests was, the closer the base year or period comes to the commitment period in the context of RMU. If it is getting lowered for the current rate of 85% in discount factors, RMU is getting higher to the whole countries. Therefore in Korea with little potential for afforestation and reforestation, there was the most sensitive response to the change of discount factors. Post-2012 LULUCF hereafter, it is strongly expected for the succession of current carbon accounting system which is voluntary reporting of gross-net carbon accounting and the activity for article 3.4. Other carbon accounting method is hard to accept in aspect that there is big differentiated interests among the countries and it is required enormous cost and time to develop reliable method. Provide for Post-2012 mandatory greenhouse gas reduction, Korea needs to have a competitive negotiation strategies differentiated from Annex I countries. The most reliable alternative would be to lower the discounting factors about the activities for forest management.

To establish an infrastructure for technology and information in the domestic construction industry, several construction regulations pertaining to construction information have been institutionalized. However, there are major problems with the domestic information classification system, earned value management (EVM) and project management information system (PMIS). In particular, the functions of the current PMIS have consisted of a builder-oriented system, and as EVM is not applied to PMIS, the functions of reporting, analysis and forecast for owners are lacking. Moreover, owners cannot confirm information on construction schedule and cost in real time due to the differences between the EVM and PMIS operation systems. The purpose of this study is to provide a framework that is capable of operating PMIS efficiently under an e-business environment, by providing a proposal on how to establish a work breakdown structure (WBS) and an EVM - PMIS integration model, so that PMIS may provide the function of EVM, and stakeholders may have all information in common. At the core of EVM - PMIS integration is the idea that EVM and PMIS have the same operation system, in order to be an activity-based system. The principle of the integration is data integration, in which the information field of an activity is connected with the field of a relational database table consisting of sub-modules for the schedule and cost management function of PMIS using a relational database management system. Therefore, the planned value (PV), cost value (CV), actual cost (AC), schedule variance (SV), schedule performance index (SPI), cost variance (CV) and cost performance index (CPI) of an activity are connected with the field of the relational database table for the schedule and cost sub-modules of PMIS.

The purpose of this article is to introduce the Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK) physical education curriculum. SPARK is a model for health-related, research-based and evidence-based physical education programs in the United States. The outcome of school physical education can relate to public health, but there exists few evidence-based physical education programs reporting health-related variables. School physical education can provide more opportunities for children and adolescents to be physically active and to learn more about healthy lifestyles. However, physical education programs have been cut and eliminated due to lack of funding in the U.S. as in South Korea. Although facing these problems, SPARK programs have been implemented in over 50% of schools, after school programs and coordinated school health programs in the U.S. This article reviewed: (a) background information of the SPARK program, (b) examples of effective interventions, and (c) methods of dissemination to schools nationally in the U.S. The methods showed in SPARK may use as a model for researching, developing and implementing new physical education(PE) program and after school programs in Korea.
