Development of the implant surgical technique and assessment rating system

  • Purpose: There has been no attempt to establish an objective implant surgical evaluation protocol to assess residents' surgical competence and improve their surgical outcomes. The present study presents a newly developed assessment and rating system and simulation model that can assist the teaching staffs to evaluate the surgical events and surgical skills of residents objectively. Methods: Articles published in peer-reviewed English journals were selected using several scientific databases and subsequently reviewed regarding surgical competence and assessment tools. Particularly, medical journals reporting rating and evaluation protocols for various types of medical surgeries were thoroughly analyzed. Based on these studies, an implant surgical technique assessment and rating system (iSTAR) has been developed. Also, a specialized dental typodont was developed for the valid and reliable assessment of surgery. Results: The iSTAR consists of two parts including surgical information and task-specific checklists. Specialized simulation model was subsequently produced and can be used in combination with iSTAR. Conclusions: The assessment and rating system provided may serve as a reference guide for teaching staffs to evaluate the residents' implant surgical techniques.

Meta-analysis of Outcomes Compared between Robotic and Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer

  • This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate and compare the outcomes of robotic gastrectomy (RG) and laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for treating gastric cancer. A systematic literature search was carried out using the PubMed database, Web of Knowledge, and the Cochrane Library database to obtain comparative studies assessing the safety and efficiency between RG and LG in May, 2013. Data of interest were analyzed by using of Review Manager version 5.2 software (Cochrane Collaboration). A fixed effects model or random effects model was applied according to heterogeneity. Seven papers reporting results that compared robotic gastrectomy with laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer were selected for this meta-analysis. Our metaanalysis included 2,235 patients with gastric cancer, of which 1,473 had undergone laparoscopic gastrectomy, and 762 had received robotic gastrectomy. Compared with laparoscopic gastrectomy, robotic gastrectomy was associated with longer operative time but less blood loss. There were no significant difference in terms of hospital stay, total postoperative complication rate, proximal margin, distal margin, numbers of harvested lymph nodes and mortality rate between robotic gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastrectomy. Our meta-analysis showed that robotic gastrectomy is a safe technique for treating gastric cancer that compares favorably with laparoscopic gastrectomy in short term outcomes. However, the long term outcomes between the two techniques need to be further examined.

  • Conventional assessments only provide a single summary score that indicates the overall performance level or achievement level of a student in a single learning area. For assessments to be more effective, test should provide useful diagnostic information in addition to single overall scores. Cognitive diagnosis modeling provides useful information by estimating individual knowledge states by assessing whether an examinee has mastered specific attributes measured by the test(Embretson, 1990; DiBello, Stout, & Rousses, 1995; Tatsuoka, 1995). Attributes are skills or cognitive processes that are required to perform correctly on a particular item. By the results of this study, students, parents, and teachers would be able to see where a student stands with respect to mastering the attributes. Such information could be used to guide the learner and teacher toward areas requiring more study. By being able to assess where they stand in regard to the attributes that compose an item, students can plan a more effective learning path to be desired proficiency levels. It would be very helpful to the examinee if score reports can provide the scale scores as well as the skill profiles. While the scale scores are believed to provide students' math ability by reporting only one score point, the skill profiles can offer a skill level of strong, weak or mixed for each student for each skill.

  • Lately the increase of unemployment and freeters, the use of mobile applications for part-time jobs has been increasing. This study identifies the problems of mobile job applications and focuses on domestic applications: 'Albamon' and 'Albachunkuk'. By conducting surveys and in-depth interviews based on Peter Morville's Honeycomb model. The usability assessment, the proposed improvement results are as follows: First, unhealthy establishments and overlapping job blocking filters should be further strengthened. Second, a design to tailor to the 20s age group, who are the main user of the application, is needed. Third, a fully customized part-time job listing is needed for users on the application landing page. Fourth, the application requires verification procedures for the document preparation regarding work contracts and reporting of employers. This study hopes to add to the improvement of job-seeking application services in Korea.

Effects of Lumbar Mobilization for Lower Limb Strength in Healthy Individuals: A Protocol for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

  • Background: The effect of mobilization on lumbar back pain has been fully described in several clinical aspects, but evidence for muscle strength would be still less clear. Objective: To assess the effect of lumbar mobilization on lower limb strength in healthy individuals. Methods and Analysis: Healthy people aged 18-65 will be included regardless of race or sex. Original peer-reviewed primary reporting randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included. Electronic databases, such as MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Pedro, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov will be searched from inception until July 30. Only studies published in English will be included in this review. Two reviewers will complete the screening for eligibility independently, and the other two reviewers will also complete the risks of data extraction and bias assessment independently. Lower Limb strength will be assessed as primary outcome, and particular intervention or participant characteristics will be assessed as the secondary outcomes. Meta-analysis will be conducted using Review Manager 5.3.3, and evidence level will be assessed using the method for Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Outcomes will be presented as the weighted mean difference or standardized mean difference with 95% CI. If I2 ≤ 50%, P>.1, the fixed effect model will be used, otherwise, random-effects model will be used. Ethics and dissemination: This review might not be necessary ethical approval because it does not require individual patient's data; these findings will be published in conference presentations or peer-reviewed journal articles. Daily Functioning in Chronic Pain: Study of Structural Relations with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms, Pain Intensity, and Pain Avoidance

  • Background: This study aimed to evaluate processes from the mutual maintenance model in relation to daily functioning in patients with both chronic pain and a history of a traumatic experience. The mechanism illustrated the structural relations for daily functioning among pain intensity, hyperarousal, re-experiencing, trauma avoidance, and pain avoidance. Methods: Archival data (N = 214) was used for this study and data were analyzed for 142 chronic pain patients reporting a traumatic experience and seeking treatment at a tertiary pain clinic in Korea. Results: The results indicated that pain intensity, hyperarousal, and pain avoidance had significant direct effects on daily functioning. Also, pain intensity showed significant indirect effects on daily functioning through hyperarousal and pain avoidance; and hyperarousal through pain avoidance. Conclusions: Results suggest a direct contribution of high levels of pain, hyperarousal symptoms of PTSD, and pain avoidance behaviors to reduced daily functioning. Also, elevated pain as reminders of the trauma may trigger high levels of hyperarousal symptoms of PTSD. Subsequently, avoidant coping strategies may be used to minimize pain so that the trauma would not be re-experienced, thus inhibiting the activation of hyperarousal symptoms of PTSD. However, prolonged use of such strategies may contribute to decline in daily functioning.

Analysis System for Public Interest Report Video of Traffic Law Violation based on Deep Learning Algorithms (딥러닝 알고리즘 기반 교통법규 위반 공익신고 영상 분석 시스템)

  • Due to the spread of high-definition black boxes and the introduction of mobile applications such as 'Smart Citizens Report' and 'Safety Report', the number of public interest reports for violations of Traffic Law has increased rapidly, resulting in shortage of police personnel to handle them. In this paper, we describe the development of a system that can automatically detect lane violations which account for the largest proportion of public interest reporting videos for violations of traffic laws, using deep learning algorithms. In this study, a method for recognizing a vehicle and a solid line object using a YOLO model and a Lanenet model, a method for tracking an object individually using a deep sort algorithm, and a method for detecting lane change violations by recognizing the overlapping range of a vehicle object's bounding box and a solid line object are described. Using this system, it is expected that the shortage of police personnel in charge will be resolved.

  • ADESS(Adverse drug event surveillance system) is the system which distinguishes adverse drug events using adverse drug signals. This system shows superior effectiveness in adverse drug surveillance than current methods such as volunteer reporting or char review. In this study, we built clinical data mart(CDM) for the development of ADESS. This CDM could obtain data reliability by applying data quality management and the most suitable clustering number(n=4) was gained through the reproducibility assessment in unsupervised learning techniques of knowledge discovery. As the result of analysis, by applying the clustering number(N=4) K-means, Kohonen, and two-step clustering models were produced and we confirmed that the K-means algorithm makes the most closest clustering to the result of adverse drug events.

A Study on the Effect of Internal and External Pressures on ESG Activities and Business Performance (내외부 압력이 ESG 활동과 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study is a leading case of empirical analysis of whether, when corporate stakeholders (government, investors, customers, managers, employees) put pressure on companies for ESG management, it affects the introduction and implementation of ESG activities (environmental, social, governance) and affects business performance. As for the research method, a sustainability report was published, and a web survey of Korea Research Inc. was conducted from May 10 to May 20, 2022 targeting ESG management managers of 192 companies, and analyzed through the PLS structural equation model. As a result of the study, it was found that the introduction and execution of ESG is closely influenced by the pressure from the government, investors, managers, and employees, and in particular, the internal pressure of current managers and executives and employees has a great impact on the introduction and implementation of environmental, social, and governance activities. In particular, although external pressure also has some influence, it is practical to suggest that strong internal pressure is necessary for continuous activities and performance. And, methodologically, the main activity indicators of the GRI Reporting Guidelines, which are the most representative ESG management indicators, were developed as a questionnaire, and reliability, validity, and model fit were secured through comparison with indicators of multiple systems and expert reviews. The limitations of this study are that more in-depth analysis by industry or size is possible when ESG management is mature and sufficient samples are secured, and complex ESG pressure factor modeling is possible when more diverse stakeholders are added.

A Study about Internal Control Deficient Company Forecasting and Characteristics - Based on listed and unlisted companies - (내부통제 취약기업 예측과 특성에 관한 연구 - 상장기업군과 비상장기업군 중심으로 -)

  • The propose of study is to examine the characteristics of companies with high possibility to form an internal control weakness using forecasting model. This study use the actual listed/unlisted companies' data from K_financial institution. The first conclusion is that discriminant model is more valid than logit model to predict internal control weak companies. A discriminant model for predicting the vulnerability of internal control has high classification accuracy and has low the Type II error that is incorrectly classifying vulnerable companies to normal companies. The second conclusion is that the characteristic of weak internal control companies have a low credit rating, low asset soundness assessment, high delinquency rates, lower operating cash flow, high debt ratios, and minus operating profit to the net sales ratio. As not only a case of listed companies but unlisted companies which did not occur in previous studies are extended in this study, research results including the forecasting model can be used as a predictive tool of financial institutions predicting companies with high potential internal control weakness to prevent asset losses.
