The Effects of Contraceptive Education Program on Contraceptive Knowledge, Contraceptive Attitude and Contraceptive Self-efficacy among High School Students (피임교육 프로그램이 고등학생의 피임 지식, 피임 태도와 피임 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to develop and evaluate the program of contraceptive education for high school students. A nonequivalent control group design was used. The contraceptive education program was developed and applied to the experimental group. The control group was provided with a handout and video educational instrument after the intervention. The population of the study comprised 146 high school students in the third grade at two high schools in U city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the χ2-test, t-test and repeated measure ANOVA using the PASW 18.0 program. The content and learning guidance validities of the contraceptive education program were 0.93 points and more than 4 points, respectively. There were statistically significant increases over time in contraceptive knowledge(F=56.71, p<.001), contraceptive attitude(F=4.31, p=.018) and contraceptive self-esteem (F=8.15, p<.001) in the experimental group. The results indicate that the contraceptive education program is effective in improving the contraceptive knowledge, contraceptive attitude and contraceptive self-esteem among high-school students. Further study is recommended to confirm the long-term effects of the contraceptive education program.

Reliable Image-Text Fusion CAPTCHA to Improve User-Friendliness and Efficiency (사용자 편의성과 효율성을 증진하기 위한 신뢰도 높은 이미지-텍스트 융합 CAPTCHA)

  • In Web registration pages and online polling applications, CAPTCHA(Completely Automated Public Turing Test To Tell Computers and Human Apart) is used for distinguishing human users from automated programs. Text-based CAPTCHAs have been widely used in many popular Web sites in which distorted text is used. However, because the advanced optical character recognition techniques can recognize the distorted texts, the reliability becomes low. Image-based CAPTCHAs have been proposed to improve the reliability of the text-based CAPTCHAs. However, these systems also are known as having some drawbacks. First, some image-based CAPTCHA systems with small number of image files in their image dictionary is not so reliable since attacker can recognize images by repeated executions of machine learning programs. Second, users may feel uncomfortable since they have to try CAPTCHA tests repeatedly when they fail to input a correct keyword. Third, some image-base CAPTCHAs require high communication cost since they should send several image files for one CAPTCHA. To solve these problems of image-based CAPTCHA, this paper proposes a new CAPTCHA based on both image and text. In this system, an image and keywords are integrated into one CAPTCHA image to give user a hint for the answer keyword. The proposed CAPTCHA can help users to input easily the answer keyword with the hint in the fused image. Also, the proposed system can reduce the communication costs since it uses only a fused image file for one CAPTCHA. To improve the reliability of the image-text fusion CAPTCHA, we also propose a dynamic building method of large image dictionary from gathering huge amount of images from theinternet with filtering phase for preserving the correctness of CAPTCHA images. In this paper, we proved that the proposed image-text fusion CAPTCHA provides users more convenience and high reliability than the image-based CAPTCHA through experiments.

Change of Contrast Sensitivity in Peripheral Vision Following Eccentric Viewing Training (중심외주시 훈련 후 주변시야에서의 대비감도 변화)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the functional improvement in peripheral vision following eccentric viewing training. Methods: 14 subjects with normal vision took a part with their right eye, peripheral retinal which is 20 lateral area from the fovea was examined for contrast sensitivity(CS). Eccentric viewing training was performed for 21days with an hour image viewing and examination was repeated. Results: The critical durations for 0.7 cpd were increased 2.67(467 ms) for pre-eccentric viewing training to 2.79(616 ms) for post-eccentric viewing training (p>0.05). The critical durations for 3.0 cpd were also increased 2.53(341 ms) for pre-eccentric viewing training to 3.04(1102 ms) for post-eccentric viewing training (p>0.05). Conclusions: It is recommended to use higher spatial frequency with higher CS for eccentric viewing training and to train more frequently for a short time. Moreover, the study on Korean standardizing of the visual rehabilitation for low vision based on the etiology is sorely required.

Effects of Simulation-based Clinical Reasoning Education and Evaluation of Perceived Education Practices and Simulation Design Characteristics by Students Nurses (간호학생을 위한 시뮬레이션기반 임상추론 교육의 효과 및 설계특성과 교육상황 인식 평가)

  • This single-blinded, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest study was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation education on clinical judgement, collaboration, communication skills, and perceived education practices and simulation design characteristics among student nurses in Korea. Participants were 47 students (19 in the experimental group and 28 in the control group) recruited by convenience sampling. The simulation based clinical reasoning education consisted of seven weekly, 120-minute high fidelity simulations. All participants completed the pretest and 7-week post measurements of a clinical judgment, collaboration, and communication skills with 4-week post measurement of collaboration, and participants in the experimental group provided a measurements of perceived education practices and simulation design characteristics. Data were analyzed using repeated measured ANOVA, and mixed linear model with SAS 9.2. Significant improvements were found in the experimental group for clinical judgment, collaboration, communication skill, and perceived education practices and simulation design characteristics. The study results show the impact of the perceived education practices and simulation design characteristics on facilitating the effectiveness of simulation education. The findings suggest a feasible and sound teaching method for student nurses and the need for further studies with a larger sample.

A comparison of Korean vowel formants in conditions of chanting and reading utterances (챈트 및 읽기 발화조건에 따른 한국어 모음 포먼트 비교)

  • Vowel articulation in subjects related to speech disorders seems to be difficult. A chant method that properly reflects the characteristics of language could be used as an effective way of addressing the difficulties. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the chant method is effective as a means of enhancing vowel articulation. The subjects of this study were 60 normal adults (30 males and 30 females) in their 20s and 30s whose native language is Korean. Eight utterance conditions including chanting and reading conditions were recorded and their acoustic data were analyzed. The results of the analysis of the acoustic variables related to the formant confirmed that the F1 and F2 values of the vowel formants are increased and the direction of movement of the center of gravity of the vowel triangle is statistically significantly forwarded and lowered in the chant method in both the word and the phrase context. The results also proved that accent is the most influential musical factor in chant. There was no significant difference between four repeated tokens, which increased the reliability of the results. In other words, chanting is an effective way to shift the center of gravity of the vowel triangle, which suggests that it can help to improve speech intelligibility by forming a desirable place for articulation.

Developing a Customized Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Smartphone Application for Adolescents: An Application of the Instructional System Design Model (청소년 성매개 감염병 교육을 위한 스마트폰 어플리케이션 개발과정)

  • Although the need for education on sexually-transmitted-infections (STIs) for adolescents has been increasing, a limited number of adolescents receive STI education. Importantly, the exposure of youth to an STI during their adolescence period can seriously affect their genital health. Smartphones are an innovative medium that can be used to change individual behaviors, especially useful when used to educate adolescents. Therefore, we developed a customized smartphone application for Korean adolescents. The application was based on Dick and Carey's instructional system design model. In this paper, we describe the process for development of the smartphone application, and the strategies we applied to attract adolescents to use the smartphone application. Six experts verified the educational content of the application. The application's easygoing words were chosen to help adolescents understand the topic. Strategies such as cartoon clips, secret chat rooms, buttons changing color from blue to grey, questions and answers, and a repeated-learning function were used to attract Korean adolescents to the application. The smartphone application developed in this study could be used in schools, youth centers, and hospital centers to improve STI knowledge, STI prevention, and STI coping skills.

A Participatory Action Research of Social Workers on the Practice Methods for Single Parents Self-help Groups in Community Welfare Centers (지역사회복지관 한부모 자조집단 지원 실천 방안 모색을 위한 사회복지사 참여실행연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find specific practice methods of single parents self-help groups in community welfare centers. A participatory action research was conducted to achieve the purpose. Six social workers and three researchers participated in the study who shared the problem of lack of specific practice methods even though a self-help group was useful for self-reliance and empowerment of low-income single-parents. Various activities such as reading articles, analysis of each self-help group, case studies, and learning facilitation methods were conducted during 10 meetings. At the same time, peer supervision proceeded at each meeting. The progress of each group was shared, the application of practice methods and plans were discussed, and applying discussed methods to group practice and reviewing the process and outcomes of the practice were repeated in the peer supervison. As a result, the following positive changes appeared: First, the goals and vision of each group became clearer. Second, initiative of the members was promoted. Third, intimacy, mutual cooperation, the attatchment to the group were strengthened. A qualitative analysis was also conducted on the content discussed. As a result, 17 practice methods were derived in four themes such as initiative/ empowerment, cohesion, leadership, and destandardization. Practice issues concerning single parents self-help groups in community welfare centers were discussed based on the results.

Development of Instruction Consulting Strategy for Improving Science Teacher's Gaze Empathy Using Eye-tracking (과학교사의 시선 공감 향상을 위한 시선 추적 기반 수업 컨설팅 전략 개발)

  • Teacher's gaze empathy for students in science class is considered to be effective in enhancing the learning effect. Thus, studies on gaze empathy have been conducted, but most of the studies are just to reveal the characteristics of gaze. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with a research to raise the level of science teacher's gaze empathy. The purpose of this study is to develop an instruction consulting strategy based on eye tracking for improving science teachers' gaze empathy. In this study, we selected and analyzed relevant literature on teacher's gaze empathy. We also designed a consulting strategy and then revised the design through expert reviews on validity and reliability. The developed consulting strategy was aimed to improve science teacher's gaze empathy and set quantitative goal based on eye tracking. The consulting strategy consisted of six steps: preparation for consulting, measurement and analysis of teacher's gaze empathy, instruction and feedback of gaze empathy, training for improving gaze empathy, evaluation of consulting result, and completion of the consulting. In addition, the consultation was completed or repeated again through the measurement and evaluation of gaze empathy using eye tracking. The developed consulting strategy has a value in that it provides an alternative with quantitative diagnosis and prescription for improving gaze empathy. The strategy can contribute to enhance teacher professional competency through the analysis of teaching behavior.

YOLO Model FPS Enhancement Method for Determining Human Facial Expression based on NVIDIA Jetson TX1 (NVIDIA Jetson TX1 기반의 사람 표정 판별을 위한 YOLO 모델 FPS 향상 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method to improve FPS while maintaining the accuracy of YOLO v2 model in NVIDIA Jetson TX1. In general, in order to reduce the amount of computation, a conversion to an integer operation or reducing the depth of a network have been used. However, the accuracy of recognition can be deteriorated. So, we use methods to reduce computation and memory consumption through adjustment of the filter size and integrated computation of the network The first method is to replace the 3×3 filter with a 1×1 filter, which reduces the number of parameters to one-ninth. The second method is to reduce the amount of computation through CBR (Convolution-Add Bias-Relu) among the inference acceleration functions of TensorRT, and the last method is to reduce memory consumption by integrating repeated layers using TensorRT. For the simulation results, although the accuracy is decreased by 1% compared to the existing YOLO v2 model, the FPS has been improved from the existing 3.9 FPS to 11 FPS.

Effect of an Ethanol Extract of Cassia obtusifolia Seeds on Alcohol-induced Memory Impairment (결명자 에탄올 추출물이 알코올로 유도로 유도한 기억 장애에 미치는 영향)

  • Heavy drinking disrupts the nervous system by activation of GABA receptors and inhibition of glutamate receptors, thereby preventing short-term memory formation. Degradation of cognition by alcohol induces blackouts, and it can lead to alcoholic dementia if repeated. Therefore, drugs need to be developed to prevent alcohol-induced blackout. In this study, we confirmed the effect of an ethanol extract of Cassia obtusifolia seeds (COE) on alcohol-induced memory impairment. The effects of COE and ethanol on cognitive functions mice were examined using the passive avoidance and Y-maze tests. The manner in which alcohol affects long-term potentiation (LTP) in relation to the learning and memory was confirmed by electrophysiology performed on mouse hippocampal slices. We also measured N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated field excitatory synapses (fEPSPs), which have a known association with cognitive impairment caused by ethanol. Ethanol caused memory impairments in passive avoidance and Y-maze tests. COE prevented these ethanol-induced memory impairments in these tests. Ethanol also blocked LTP induction in the mouse hippocampus, and COE prevented this ethanol-induced LTP deficit. Ethanol decreased NMDA receptor-mediated fEPSPs in the mouse hippocampus, and this decrease was prevented by COE. These results suggest that COE might be useful in preventing alcohol-induced neurological dysfunctions, including blackouts.
