Simulation on Optimum Repairing Number of Carbonated RC Structure Based on Probabilistic Approach (확률론을 고려한 탄산화된 RC 구조물의 최적 보수시기 해석)

  • Carbonation is a representative deterioration for underground structure, which causes additional repair for service life. This study proposes a simplified equation for optimum repair timing without complicated probability calculation, considering initial and repair conditions For the work, initial service life, extended service life through repair, and their COVs(Coefficient of Variation) are considered, and the periods which can reduce number of repair are evaluated. Assuming the two service lives to be independent, the repair timings are derived from 10 to 50 years based on the probabilistic method, and the regression analysis technique for optimum repairing timing is proposed. Decreasing COV has insignificant effect on reducing repairing number but shows a governing effect on changes in probability near the critical repairing stage. The extension of service life through repairing is evaluated to be a critical parameter for reducing repairing number. The proposed technique can be efficiently used for maintenance strategy with actual COV of initial and additional service life due to repairing.

  • Many researches have been carried out on carbonation, a representative deterioration in underground structure. The carbonation of RC (Reinforced Concrete) structure can cause steel corrosion through pH drop in concrete pore water. However extension of service life in RC structures can be obtained through simple surface protection. Unlike the conventional deterministic maintenance technique, probabilistic technique can consider a variation of service life but it deals with only normal distributions. In the work, life time-probability distributions considering not only normal but also log distributions are induced, and repair cost estimation technique is proposed based on the induced model. The proposed technique can evaluate the repair cost through probabilistic manner regardless of normal or log distribution from initial service life and extended service life with repair. When the extended service life through repair has log distribution, repair cost is effectively reduced. The more reasonable maintenance strategy can be set up though actual determination of life-probability distribution based on long term tests and field investigations.

  • The rehabilitation methods used in existing concrete box structures rely on the method of attaching the repair material to the section of the structure with a spray equipment. In the case of ceiling or wall parts, the adhesion force to the repair material may be reduced by the gravity and dead load after construction. In subway structures, vibration causes a problem that reduces the initial adhesion. Supplementary measures are needed as the quality of repair varies depending on the worker's proficiency and construction environment. In this study, mechanical pressurization equipment was developed that can apply a certain pressure after construction of a repairwork to solve problems such as reduction of adhesion of repair materials by gravity and variation of repair quality by labor work. To find out the effect of the pressurized equipment, a chamber similar to the field conditions was constructed to measure the attachment strength different from the pressurized condition, the section, and the environmental conditions. The pressurization differed from the other parts, but the adhesion strength of up to 70% was increased.

  • The work of constructing apartment housing involves various fields of industry that are linked to each other, and is based on a design document prepared by multiple technicians and architects. Consequently, design errors, material flaws or faulty construction works can cause defects, which sometimes overlap with each other. Construction companies should repair any defects found in a completed building within a specified period of time, and to do this, should establish a business plan by efficiently predicting the cost of defect repair. As it is very difficult for companies to accurately predict the occurrence of defects, historical performance data is used as a base. For domestic apartment housing units, data on the cost of defect repair is insufficient, so there are hardly any methods that can be used to make precise predictions. Therefore, the intent of this study is to develop a model that can predict the cost of defect repair by supply type and area, based on historical performance data with ten years worth of post-completion.

  • The repair and maintenance cost of domestic public rental housing is an issue of considerable interest and growing financial concern. This paper suggests a quantity-based model as an alternative method for predicting costs, instead of the conventional model which is based on actual cost data. Furthermore, this paper provides a forecast of the repair costs incurred each year during the multi family house's maintenance phase (40 years). The recently changed the long-term repair plan and quality-improved interior materials were considered into the research. In order to estimate the cost of maintenance work, 5 sample apartments were selected and analyzed. The repair and maintenance cost from the case studies was converted to cost per household and per floor area for general use. On the other hand, the net present value method was applied to reflect the effect of time. We expect that the results will help to establish expenditure plans that are more effective for public rental housing in the maintenance stage.

  • Polymer-cement composites are known repair materials. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of various amount of dispersion of carboxylated styrene-butadience copolymer on the selected mechanical properties of polymer-cement concrete (PCC) and on its adhesion to ordinary concrete. The compressive, flexural and tensile strengths as well as frost resistance and fracture resistance of the composites are tested. Adhesion strength of PCC to ordinary concrete, as one of most important performance of good repair material is evaluated and analyzed using three test methods. The results obtained in standard pull-off test are compared with the two other tests. The first one, which is an adaptation of WST (wedge splitting test) characterizes crack propagation in the plane of bond created during repair. In the second test the resistance to shear is a measure of adhesion strength.

  • Arc welding is sometimes used to repair damaged cast iron parts in diesel engine for driving a ship. In this case cola arc welding. is good for. saving the time and results in good repairing. But if some difference in hardness on welding zones made with AWS E Ni-CI and NiFe-CI. happen, repaired parts would be cracked in a short. In order to overcome this default, the study is performed on varying preheating temperature of welding parts, selecting welding rod and welding work way. The result will be used on ship's repair working shop.

  • The maintenance and repair period consists the largest part of a construction project life cycle cost. However, it has been analyzed that the repairing plan relies on regulations and the officers' experience mostly that sometimes lead to performing unnecessary work. Moreover, the data occurred during repairing have not been stored in a system that can be used in future plans. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest a repairing cost and time predicting model by applying the properties of the building.

Traumatic Tricuspid Regurgitation Treated by the Minimally Invasive Double Orifice Technique

  • A 37-year-old man was transferred to our level I trauma center after a road traffic accident, presenting with right acetabular fracture, multiple rib fractures, epidural hemorrhage, and liver contusion. Severe traumatic tricuspid regurgitation was also discovered during the work-up for surgery. Our initial attempt at acetabular surgery failed when the patient experienced near cardiac arrest during anesthetic induction. It was hence decided that tricuspid valve repair should precede orthopedic surgery. Minimally invasive tricuspid valve repair using the double orifice technique was successfully performed. Subsequently, acetabular surgery was performed and he was discharged 35 days post-trauma without any complications.

A Study on Standardization of Supervision Cost by Investigating Supervision Workload in Cultural Heritage Repair Works (문화재수리공사의 감리업무량 조사를 통한 감리대가 기준 마련 연구)

  • The Korean Government introduced a cultural heritage supervision system in January 2010 to control quality and to prevent poor construction. However, cultural heritage related constructions that require supervision, a scope of supervision, supervision cost and placement of supervisors have not been standardized yet. For this reason, standards of supervision for repair works of cultural heritage that reflect the characteristics of small-scale repair works and restoration of cultural heritage are required. Accordingly, this study has suggested standards of supervision works and cost by analyzing the average construction period that is suitable for the characteristics of cultural heritage repair works. In other words, this study has suggested standards of full-time supervision costs by applying the fixed amount-added method (adding direct labor cost, direct expenses, overhead expenses, engineering fee, charges for additional works and VAT) which is the same as the method of calculating supervision costs for public construction projects because a supervisor has to work full time at a construction site to perform supervision if the project is a mid/large-scale cultural heritage repair work. Also, this study has suggested standards of part-time supervision costs for a small-scale cultural heritage repair work and the ways of supervising the construction projects by visiting the project site on important occasions. According to the result of the analysis by applying the forgoing standards of supervision costs for cultural heritage, a full-time supervision cost for cultural heritage repair works is approximately 98% compared to the construction supervision of a public construction project, and a part-time supervision is approximately 158% compared to architectural construction supervision. It is expected that the valuable cultural heritage of Korea will be preserved by controlling quality of cultural heritage repair works through the application of this study result - the standards of supervision costs for cultural heritage repair works - to an actual project.
