For the PBL contract, it is necessary for the contracting parties to share information regarding the reasonable inventory-level and the cost of its repair parts for the estimated demand. There are various models which can be used for this purpose. Among them, V-METRIC model is considered to be the most efficient and is most frequently applied. However, this model is usually used for optimizing the inventory level of the repair parts of the system under operation. The model uses a time series forecast model to determine the demand rate, which is a mandatory input factor for the model, based on past field data. However, since the system at the deployment stage has no operational performance record, it is necessary to find another alternative to be used as the demand rate of the model application. This research applies the V-METRIC model to find the optimal inventory level and cost estimation for repairable items to meet the target operational availability, which is a key performance indicator, at the time of the PBL contract for the deployment system. This study uses the calculated value based on the allocated MTBF to the system as the demand rate, which is used as input data for the model. Also, we would like to examine changes in inventory level and cost according to the changes in target operational availability and MTBF allocation.
To determine the biological effects of low-dose-rate radiation ($^{137}Cs$, 2.95 mGy/h) on EL4 lymphoma cells during 24 h, we investigated the expression of genes related to apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, DNA repair, iron transport, and ribonucleotide reductase. EL4 cells were continuously exposed to low-dose-rate radiation (total dose: 70.8 mGy) for 24 h. We analyzed cell proliferation and apoptosis by trypan blue exclusion and flow cytometry, gene expression by real-time PCR, and protein levels with the apoptosis ELISA kit. Apoptosis increased in the Low-dose-rate irradiated cells, but cell number did not differ between non- (Non-IR) and Low-dose-rate irradiated (LDR-IR) cells. In concordance with apoptotic rate, the transcriptional activity of ATM, p53, p21, and Parp was upregulated in the LDR-IR cells. Similarly, Phospho-p53 (Ser15), cleaved caspase 3 (Asp175), and cleaved Parp (Asp214) expression was upregulated in the LDR-IR cells. No difference was observed in the mRNA expression of DNA repair-related genes (Msh2, Msh3, Wrn, Lig4, Neil3, ERCC8, and ERCC6) between Non-IR and LDR-IR cells. Interestingly, the mRNA of Trfc was upregulated in the LDR-IR cells. Therefore, we suggest that short-term Low-dose-rate radiation activates apoptosis in EL4 lymphoma cells.

This paper presents a preventive maintenance model for determining the preventive replacement period of a system in which a failure rate is affected by the cumulative damage of fault and inspection. Especially, the failure rate function is considered to be a function of the cumulative damage of the fault and inspection time. Types of replacement considered are preventive replacement and failure replacement. Failure rate and expected cost function between replacement are derived. An optimal policy is obtained that minimizes the average cost per unit time for preventive replacement, failure replacement, inspection and repair.
In this paper, the optimal maintenance scheduling for turbine with considering maintenance replacement rate was proposed in order to reduce the maintenance cost during the whole period of operation, meanwhile keeping current reliability of turbine. The proposed method is only based on a few limited available data with various factors relating to maintenance replacement and repair of turbine. The proposed method will be adopted by Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. from April in 2002 to determine the maintenance schedule of thermal power plants.

Recently, an extended warranty of the system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a preventive maintenance model following the expiration of extended warranty with minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. Under basic warranty and extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. For the preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the purpose when the failure time of the system has a Weibull distribution.

For highway concrete structures, the deterioration of the structure is accelerated due to the increase in the use of deicing materials, and sectional repair work is being frequently carried out to restore performance. However, after the repair work, re-damage such as cracks, delamination, and poor bond performance is exhibited in the repaired sectional area. In this study, overseas repair material requirements were first analyzed, and present domestic requirements were improved repair material performance through field surveys of common concrete structures, laboratory experiments, and test construction on a disused concrete bridge. In addition, performancebased quality requirements were presented so that all materials that meet the required performance can be applied, and different test methods for each material were unified into concrete test methods for consistent test results analysis. The considered performance requirements were compression strength, bending strength, and bond strength for structural properties, and length change rate, crack resistance, thermal expansion coefficient, and elasticity coefficient were for dimensional behavior. For resistance to chloride penetration resistance and freeze-thaw resistance were presented as durability. The proposed requirements for concrete repair materials are expected to contribute to the improvement of the quality of concrete sectional repair work in Korea.
Objective : Many communication recovery strategies should be used when communication breakdowns occur for successful communication, however, communication problems increase due to inadequate use of such strategies in older people with dementia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of recovery strategy between dementia and the elderly in conversational discourse. Method : The subjects were eight of Alzheimer's dementia and 10 general elderly. Conversation discourse tasks were conducted face-to-face with the subjects. Communication breakdown and communication recovery strategies were analyzed based on 200 utterances collected in the conversation discourse. Result : First, the AD group had more communication breakdown than the control group, but the recovery rate did not differ between the groups. Second, in the AD group, the nonspecific recovery strategy and the clarification demand strategy were used as the expression strategy. The recovery rate after using expressive strategy was more than 90% in explanation strategy, combined strategy, nonspecific repair strategy, and repetition confirmation strategy. The response strategy used a lot of paraphrase strategy and combined strategies, and the recovery rate after using the response strategy was 100% for the simplification strategy, repeat strategy and gesture strategy. Conclusion : The AD group showed more breakdown of research subjects and breakdown of researchers than control group, and it showed ability to use various expression strategy and response strategy though there was difference in repair rate between communication repair strategy. AD group used nonspecific repair strategy in expression strategy the most and paraphrase strategy in response strategy the most. This shows different characteristic from ordinary elderly people. Therefore, it is necessary to utilize this repair strategy for rehabilitation of AD elderly.

Background: Surgical repair of post-infarct ventricular septal defect (VSD) is considered one of the most challenging procedures having high surgical mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of the surgical repair of post-infarct VSD. Methods: From May 1991 to July 2012, 34 patients (mean age, $67.1{\pm}7.9$ years) underwent surgical repair of post-infarct VSD. A retrospective review of clinical and surgical data was performed. Results: VSD repair involved the infarct exclusion technique using a patch in all patients. For coronary revascularization, 12 patients (35.3%) underwent concomitant coronary artery bypass graft, 3 patients (8.8%) underwent preoperative percutaneous coronary intervention, and 9 patients (26.5%) underwent both of these procedures. The early mortality rate was 20.6%. Six patients (17.6%) required reoperation due to residual shunt or newly developed VSD. During follow-up (median, 4.8 years; range, 0 to 18.4 years), late death occurred in nine patients. Overall, the 5-year and 10-year survival rates were $54.4%{\pm}8.8%$ and $44.3%{\pm}8.9%$, respectively. According to a Cox regression analysis, preoperative cardiogenic shock (p=0.069) and prolonged cardiopulmonary bypass time (p=0.008) were independent predictors of mortality. Conclusion: The early surgical outcome of post-infarct VSD was acceptable considering the high-risk nature of the disease. The long-term outcome, however, was still dismal, necessitating comprehensive optimal management through close follow-up.
LRP15 is a novel gene cloned from lymphocytic cells, and its function is still unknown. Bioinformatic data showed that LRP15 might be regulated by DNA methylation and had an important role in DNA repair. In this study, we investigate whether the expression of LRP15 is regulated by DNA methylation, and whether overexpression of LRP15 increases efficiency of DNA repair of UV-induced DNA damage in HeLa cells. The results showed (1) the promoter of LRP15 was hypermethylated in HeLa cells, resulting a silence of its expression. Gene expression was restored by a demethylating agent, 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine, but not by a histone deacetylase inhibitor, trichostatin A; (2) overexpression of LRP15 inhibited HeLa cell proliferation, and the numbers of cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle in cells transfected with LRP15 increased about 10% compared with controls; (3) cyclin B1 level was much lower in cells overexpressing LRP15 than in control cells; and (4) after exposure to UV radiation, the LRP15-positive cells showed shorter comet tails compared with the LRP15-negative cells. From these results we conclude that the expression of LRP15 is controlled by methylation in its promoter in HeLa cells, and LRP15 confers resistance to UV damage and accelerates the DNA repair rate.
Purpose: To evaluate the integrity of repair & technical tip in use of Massive Cuff Stitch at arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tear. Materials and Methods: Twenthy-nine cases of arthroscopically repaired full thickness tear of rotator cuffs which are medium sized were evaluated. Between December 2004 to September 2005 we have studied, the average age 53($42{\sim}69$) years old, mean follow-up was 15($12{\sim}21$) months. We analyzed the results statistically by paired t-test. The integrity of repair were verified by follow up MRI which were checked 11 cases and ultrasound which were checked 10 cases. Results: VAS of pain improved preoperative average 7.1 to postoperative 0.9, ADL improved 11.2 to 25.6 respectively, UCLA improved 13.7 to 32.9(all, P<0.05). 89.7% showed excellent & good results at the final follow-up. The satisfied rate was 93.1%(27 cases). There was re-rupture of the repaired rotator cuff in one case out of 11 cases which were checked by MRI, and in one case out of 10 cases which were checked by ultrasound, and there was one case of thinning of cuff which were checked by ultrasound. Conclusion: The use of Massive Cuff Stitch in arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tear have been reduced technical failure. It will be good surgical technique which maintain the integrity of repairs.
