Effect of Welding method and Welding Material to Corrosion Property of Repair Weld Zone for Exhaust Valve in 5% H2SO4 Solution -1 (5% 황산용액에서 배기밸브 보수 용접부의 부식 특성에 미치는 용접방법과 용접봉의 영향-1)

  • Recently a fuel oil of the diesel engine in the ship is being changed with low quality as the oil price is higher more and more. Therefore the wear and corrosion in all parts of the engine like cylinder liner ring groove of piston crown, spindle and seat ring of exhaust valve are increased with using of heavy oil of low quality In particular the degree of wear and corrosion in between valve spindle and seat ring are more serious compared to the other parts of the engine due to operating in severe environment such as the high temperature of exhaust gas and repeating impact. Thus the repair weld to the valve spindle and seat ring is a unique method to prolong the life of the exhaust valve in an economical point of view In this study. corrosion property of both weld metal zone and base metal was investigated with some electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and polarization resistance etc. in 5% $H_2SO_4$ solution. in the case of being welded with some welding methods and welding materials to the exhaust valve specimen as the base metal. In all cases. the values of hardness of the weld metal zone were more high than that of the base metal. And their corrosion resistance were also superior to the base metal. The weld metal of A2F(AC SMAW: 2 pass welding with foreign electrode) showed a relatively good results to the corrosion resistance as well as the hardness compared to the ether welding methods and welding materials. Moreover it indicated that hardness of the weld metal by the domestic electrode was considerably high compared to that of the foreign electrode.

  • This study is based on the evaluation of a single component injection type adhesive repair material and a new 2 component type used in leakage of underground concrete structures. The studies showed that based on different mix ratio of the 2 component type adhesive sealant comprised of an asphalt main and latex mixture agent the viscosity of the material compound differed significantly. Based on a permeability testing, injection and economic efficiency, and performance, the appropriate ratio was determined to be 6:1 and was proceeded to the KS F 4935 evaluation method. The 2 component type adhesive sealant uses a static mixer and a cartridge type container for the injection procedure and was able to satisfy the evaluation criteria outlined in the KS F 4935 standard.

  • Every summer in our country, an accident occurs, in which the retaining wall on a steep slope collapses due to torrential rain. According to the data on the results of steep slope risk assessment in 2019, over 780 retaining walls are below grade C; therefore, preparing for countermeasures is urgent. However, due to the limited budget for the repair and reinforcement of these retaining walls, it is necessary to discuss the investment prioritization. In this study, a prioritization method was proposed at the network and project levels along with the review of the revised criteria of disaster risk assessment in the steep slope retaining wall, and an application research in the network level was conducted for six retaining walls. Moreover, it is proposed that the priority index was determined by using the actual cost for repair and reinforcement in determination of the project level prioritization.

Repair of sports bone injury based on multifunctional nanomaterial particles

  • Nanoparticles have lower size and larger specific surface area, good stability and less toxic and side effects. In recent years, with the development of nanotechnology, its application range has become wider and wider, especially in the field of biomedicine, which has received more and more attention. Bone defect repair materials with high strength, high elasticity and high tissue affinity can be prepared by nanotechnology. The purpose of this paper was to study how to analyze and study the composite materials for sports bone injury based on multifunctional nanomaterials, and described the electrospinning method. In this paper, nano-sized zirconia (ZrO2) filled micro-sized hydroxyapatite (HAP) composites were prepared according to the mechanical properties of bone substitute materials in the process of human rehabilitation. Through material tensile and compression experiments, the performance parameters of ZrO2/HAP composites with different mass fraction ratios were analyzed, the influence of filling ZrO2 particles on the mechanical properties of HAP matrix materials was clarified, and the effect of ZrO2 mass fraction on the mechanical properties of matrix materials was analyzed. From the analysis of the compressive elastic modulus, when the mass fraction of ZrO2 was 15%, the compressive elastic modulus of the material was 1222 MPa, and when 45% was 1672 MPa. From the analysis of compression ratio stiffness, when the mass fraction of ZrO2 was 15%, the compression ratio stiffness was 658.07 MPa·cm3/g, and when it was 45%, the compression ratio stiffness is 943.51MPa·cm3/g. It can be seen that by increasing the mass fraction of ZrO2, the stiffness of the composite material can be effectively increased, and the ability of the material to resist deformation would be increased. Typically, the more stressed the bone substitute material, the greater the stiffness of the compression ratio. Different mass fractions of ZrO2/HAP filling materials can be selected to meet the mechanical performance requirements of sports bone injury, and it can also provide a reference for the selection of bone substitute materials for different patients.

Surgical Outcome of Biventricular Repair for Double-outlet Right Ventricle: A 18-Year Experience (양대혈관우심실기시증에 대한 양심실 교정의 수술 성적: 18년 치험)

  • We reviewed our 18-year surgical experience of biventricular repair for double-outlet right ventricle. Material and Method: One hundred twelve consecutive patients (80 males and 32 females) who underwent biventricular repair for double-outlet right ventricle between May 1986 and September 2002 were included. We assessed risk factors for early mortality and reoperation. Reoperation-free survival rate and actual survival rate were analysed. Result: Most common type of ventricular septal defect was subaortic (n=58, 52%) and non-committed type was second most common (n=32, 29%). Four different surgical methods were used: intraventricular baffle repair (n=71 , 63%): right ventricle to pulmonary ariery conduit interposition or REV with left ventricle to aorta baffle repair (n=24, 21 .4%): arierial switch operation with left ventricle to pulmonary artery baffle (n=14, 12.5%): Senning atrial switch operation with left ventricle to pulmonary artery baffle (n=3, 2.7%). Thirty four patients(30%) underwent palliative procedures before definite repair. Twenty three patients (21%) required reoperations. There were 12 (10.7%) early deaths and 4 late deaths. Age younger than 3 months at repair (p=0.003), cardiopulmonary bypass and aortic cross clamp time (p=0.015, p=0.067), type of operation (arterial switch operation) (p <0.001) and type of ventricular septal defect (subpulmonic type) (p=0.002) were revealed as risk factors for early death in univariate analysis, while age under 3 months was the only significant risk factor in multivariate analysis. Patients younger than 1 year of age (p=0.02), pulmonary artery angioplasty at definitive repair (p=0.024), type of ventricular septal defect (non-committed) (p=0.001), type of operation (right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit interposition and REV operation) (p=0.028, p=0.017) were risk factors for reoperation in univariate analysis but there was no significant risk factor in multivariate analysis. Follow-up was available on 91 survivals with a mean duration of 110.8$\pm$56.4 (2~201) months. 5, 10 and 15 year survival rates were 86.5%, 85% and 85% and reoperation free survival were 85%, 71.5%, 70%. Conclusion: Age under 3 months at repair, subpulmonic ventricular septal defect and arterial switch operation were significant risk factors for early mortality. Patients with non-committed ventricular septal defect and who underwent conduit interposition or REV operation were risk factors for reoperation. With careful attention to chose best timing and surgical approach depending on morphologic characteristics, biventricular repair for double outlet right ventricle can be achieved with good long-term outcome.

Results of Open Versus Arthroscopic Method in Recurrent Anterior Shoulder Instability (관혈적 방법과 관절경적 방법을 이용한 재발성 견관절 전방 불안정의 치료 결과)

  • Purpose: To compare the results of open and arthroscopic method in recurrent anterior should erinstability. Materials and Methods: The 68 patients who have been taken the open or arthroscopic Bankartrepair for the period of Jan. 1995 to April. 2000. One group (23 patients) had elected an arthroscopic Bankart repair, the other group (45 patients) had chosen open stabilization. Patients were followed up12 to 63 months (ave. 34 months) after surgery. Results: We found 2 cases of subluxation out of open repair group, and then treated by conservative method. There were another 2 cases of dislocation and 2 cases of subluxation out of arthroscopicrepair group, and we have taken out 1 case of reoperation by open method. Using the functional scales by Rowe, the patients who have taken the open method posted at the average point of 87, while the arthroscopic method posted 85 points. Patients satisfaction points were 84.6 and 72.5 respectively. There were no criteria of statistically significant except stability and motion score. Conclusion: Open Bankart repair would be better in stability, and arthroscopic method in ROM gain. Proper patient selection based on physical examination and arthroscopic inspection to optimize the indications contributed to successful treatment.

Modified Fisher method for unilateral cleft lip-report of cases

  • Background: Rehabilitation of normal function and form is essential in cleft lip repair. In 2005, Dr. David M. Fisher introduced an innovative method, named "an anatomical subunit approximation technique" in unilateral cleft lip repair. According to this method, circumferential incision along the columella on cleft side of the medial flap is continued to the planned top of the Cupid's bow in straight manner, which runs parallel to the unaffected philtral ridge. Usually, small inlet incision is needed to lengthen the medial flap. On lateral flap, small triangle just above the cutaneous roll is used to prevent unesthetic shortening of upper lip. This allows better continuity of the Cupid's bow and ideal distribution of tension. Case presentation: As a modification to original method, orbicularis oris muscle overlapping suture is applied to make the elevated philtral ridge. Concomitant primary rhinoplasty also results in good esthetic outcome with symmetric nostrils and correction of alar web. As satisfactory results were obtained in three incomplete and one complete unilateral cleft lip patients, indicating Fisher's method can be useful in cleft lip surgery with functional and esthetic outcome. Conclusions: Clinically applied Fisher's method in unilateral cleft lip patients proved the effectiveness in improving the esthetic results with good symmetry. This method also applied with primary rhinoplasty.

  • Recently, 4 cases underwent successful surgical correction of tetralogy of Fallot combined with pulmonary atresia in 2 cases, with abnormal coronary artery in another 2 cases. The operation consisted of a patch repair to the ventricular septal defect. The pulmonary atresia and stenosis were corrected with the method of external connection, from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery using the valved conduits.
