Smart Pricing in Action: The Case of Asset Pricing for a Rent-a-Car Company

  • The Internet enables businesses to acquire a great deal of information, including prices in the open markets. In this study, we investigate what the value of reference price information is to a company in the market and how the company can make use of such information. Using business analytics, we were able to estimate prices of used cars for a rent-a-car company. The results show that a smart pricing information system is useful for collecting online reference price information and for estimating future prices of used cars and rental prices.

  • As the Korean rental car industry turned into a mature stage, the competition level has become stronger than ever. In 2006, AJ Rent a Car declared customer satisfaction management as its vision to make a breakthrough. Through various service innovation efforts, AJ has been successfully offering meaningful and differentiated values to the customers. As results, the complaints rate has decreased, while service quality index has significantly increased. These service quality indicators have led to improved customer satisfaction level which was measured by re-purchase intention and customer satisfaction index, and AJ outran its major competitors in these dimensions of competition. The first key success factor of AJ is its effective service system. AJ manages the VOC, ERP, and CRM system in a well organized manner. AJ's another key success factor is a effective service process, which helps the organization share and respond to customer complaints in an efficient way. Finally, the management communicates the clear vision and strategic direction not only with the customers but also with the entire organization. With these three factors combined, AJ has created the service oriented corporate culture. Based on the culture. AJ has been able to develop a strong and sustainable competitive advantage in customer satisfaction management.

  • Car-sharing is a representative model of the sharing economy, and it is a service that rents or uses a car for the necessary time without owning a car. This industry is growing due to various factors such as technological advances, increasing awareness of environmental protection, and increasing demand for solving traffic congestion problems in cities. Accordingly, there is a need for a strategic approach for companies providing car-sharing services to respond quickly to market changes in order to expand market share and differentiate services. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on open innovation activities between Gongcar and existing rental car companies, focusing on the research question "What effects do open innovation activities between car-sharing companies and existing rental car companies cause?" As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Gongcar have (1) the ability to actively respond to market fluctuations by establishing a flexible vehicle supply chain based on demand, (2) have significantly reduced growth capital expenditure (Growth Capex), and both cafe and rental car companies have (3) performed successful open innovation by improving key KPI indicators and recording financial performance. This study reveals how open innovation acts as a key business growth engine in the car-sharing industry, and its significance is found in that it empirically confirmed the successful implementation conditions of open innovation based on resource dependence theory.

Moreover, in terms of travel agency business, the application of electronic commerce system using Internet is extremely important, because that providing and getting proper information is the focus to success in the business.   • People's leisure activities have increased due to changes in perception of social life. Camping cars are becoming popular due to the development of camping culture and traveling. However, there are not many users compared to the population of the camper due to the difficulty of economy and usability. Making it not easy to purchase or rent a camping car. Therefore, this study researches on camping service by combining shared services. It is aimed to provide a user centered camping shared service considering usage and economic efficiency. This study analyzed the concept, characteristics and current status of shared service and camping car with reference to domestic, overseas literature and internet data to provide basic data of camping car using shared service. In addition, through case study of shared vehicles, it is possible to grasp the current market. Integrate P2P, B2C, renting company and individuals to derive the design of A2P (All to People)service which connects and shares all. The user can have its own space available at the desired place and time. This study is a camping or unique mobile space service design that can be easily experienced in everyday life. It will reduce the strain of maintaining expenses and also process of pick up, return is freely making user-centered service design. This service design will lead to a diverse range of leisure activities and contribute to the upsweep of the camper industry.
