  • Evaluation of the effect of radial distortion for a holographic stereogram demands conducting an experiment which comprises rendering of a 3D obejc, acquisition of perspective images, rearrangement of the acquired images for hogel images and quality assessment of the observing image reconstructed from the holographic stereogram. We propose numerical implementation of this evaluation by a specially developed algorithm for modeling of all required steps. The modeling is done by using a numerical model of an optical engine for generation of radially distorted hogel images at various degrees of distortion. The distorted images are used to form the holographic stereogram and to make the numerically reconstructed images from the holographic stereogram which are observed by an observer at desired location. The reconstructed images are compared by using PSNR.

  • Burials for the rapid disposal of carcasses have diverse and profound effects on the rural living condition, natural environment, and local economy throughout construction, management and final destruction of burials. In this study, possible residue excavated from standard burials, storage using FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) tanks, and microbial-treated burials are characterized as carcasses, contaminated soil by leachate, and wasted plastic film. Treatment technologies for volume reduction of the residue including composting, rendering, and thermal hydrolysis were investigated. If the solid and liquid residues generated during volume reduction treatment are directly transferred to the environmental facilities, it may cause disorder due to high concentrations of organics, antibiotics, and lipid. Benefits and drawbacks of composting as a volume reduction techniques are extensively investigated. We also discussed that proper treatment of excavated soils and the reusing the treated soil as agricultural purpose. For the protection of public health and worker's hygiene, treatment criteria including produced residue qualities, and quality standards for the treated soil as agricultural use are required. In addition, Scientific manual for the proper treatment of residues is required. It is necessary to consider the establishment of a pretreatment facility to the occurrence of large-scale residue treatment.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method to remove the boundary artifacts of rendered views caused by damaged depth maps in the 3D video system. First, characteristics of boundary artifacts with the compression noise in depth maps are carefully studied. Then, the artifacts suppression method is proposed by the iterative projection onto convex sets (POCS) algorithm with setting the convex set in pixel and frequency domain. The proposed method is applied to both texture and depth maps separately during view rendering. The simulation results show the boundary artifacts are greatly reduced with improving the quality of synthesized views.

  • The development in roller compacted concrete (RCC) is replacing the conventionally vibrated concrete (CVC) for faster construction of dam during last three-four decades. Notwithstanding, there have been relatively less works reported on the utilization of RCC in dam constructions, especially the dams having considerable height. Further, the Ghatgar dam was the only dam in the tropical country like India constructed using the technology of RCC until two years back. However, with the completion of 102.4 m high Middle Vaitarana Dam (MVD), owned by Muncipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), India, has become the first largest roller compacted concrete dam. The paper traces step by step aspects of the mix design of RCC in respect of the afore-mentioned project besides the construction aspects; and also, demonstrates as to how 12.15 lacs cubic meter of roller compacted concrete was placed within the record duration of 15.2 months, thus, rendering the MVD as the ninth fastest RCC dam in the world. The paper also discusses the various mix proportioning, quality control, constructional features and instrumentation with respect to the high RCC dam such as Middle Vaitarana.

  • In virtual endoscopy, it is important to produce high quality perspective images in real-time. However, it is more significant to devise a navigation method that can make a virtual camera move through in human cavities such as colon and bronchus without collision and let the user control the camera intuitively. We propose an efficient navigation method, which generates 2D depth map during rendering the current frame, then determines position and direction of camera using the depth information. It offers collision-free navigation and allows us to control the camera as we want. Also it does not require preprocessing step and additional data structures.

  • The augmented reality is the environment which consists of real-world view and information drawn by computer. Since the image which user can see through augmented reality device is a synthetic image composed by real-view and virtual image, it is important to make the virtual image generated by computer well harmonized with real-view image. In this paper, we present reviews of several works about computer vision and graphics methods which give user realistic augmented reality experience. To generate visually harmonized synthetic image which consists of a real and a virtual image, 3D geometry and environmental information such as lighting or material surface reflectivity should be known by the computer. There are lots of computer vision methods which aim to estimate those. We introduce some of the approaches related to acquiring geometric information, lighting environment and material surface properties using monocular or multi-view images. We expect that this paper gives reader's intuition of the computer vision methods for providing a realistic augmented reality experience.

  • As mobile devices have developed, flash animations suitable for the existing web have solved part of the weakness caused by the image quality deterioration and the transmission capacity, but it is difficult to express 3D stereo-scopic images. Also, for the real time-randering of visual expressions for animation and the device technique for smartphone to accord with commercial demands, it is required to develop the 3D image processing technique. This paper studied on the image processing method for 3D animation capable of 3D graphic rendering with view system of android and OpenGL M3G in an embedded system device and OpenGL ES 2.0 library.

  • 3D character animation grow rapidly with the development of computer graphic technology and software. Nowadays 3D character animation holds a important position in the various industry fields including movie, advertisement, animation, and game. With the rapid growth of computer graphic, real time animation of complex characters as well as high quality rendering, which was impossible before, are now prevailing. What is remarkable in this growth is the appearance of virtual idol. The virtual idol plays a leading role in 3D character animation and has a synergy effect in the field of fancy and theme park industry. The aim of this inquiry is to examine the status of computer graphic skill and media related to the 3D character animation to search out the problems in the fields and to propose the solution of the problems

  • Shortwave radiation and sunshine hours (SHOUR) are important variables having many applications, including crop growth. However, observational data for these variables have low horizontal resolution, rendering its application to related research and decision making on f arming practices challenging. In the present study, hourly solar radiation data were physically generated using the Land-Atmosphere Modeling Package (LAMP) at the National Center f or Agro-Meteorology, and then daily SHOUR fields were calculated through statistical downscaling. After data quality evaluation, including case studies, the SHOUR data were added to the existing publically accessible LAMP daily database. The LAMP daily dataset, newly updated with SHOUR, has been provided operationally as input data to the "Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Drought Prediction System," which predicts agricultural weather disasters and field crop growth status.

  • In this study, a new method that finds an area where interesting objects are placed to generate DIBR-based intermediate images with higher quality. This method complements the existing object segmentation algorithm called Grabcut by finding the bounding box automatically, whereas the existing algorithm requires a user to select the region specifically. Then, the histogram of the depth map information is then used to separate the background and the frontal objects after applying the GrabCut algorithm. By using the new method, it is found that it produces better result than the existing algorithm. This paper describes the new method and future research.
