  • Most measuring devices are equipped with RS-232 or GPIB interface for communicating data with computers. If the measuring devices can be accessed by a server computer, the valuable information from the devices can be effectively shared with other computers via internet. But, if the measuring devices and the server computer are too far away, it is difficulty to directly connect them by RS232 interface. PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) refers to the world's collection of interconnected voice-oriented public telephone networks. Measuring computer system which is equipped with RS232 interface and modem for PSTN can be introduced to overcome the aforementioned distance problem, In this work, an internet based remote monitoring system which utilizes PSTN and VRML for 3-dimensional GUI is proposed.

  • Polishing work of a free-curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations but requires a considerable amount of time for high precision. In out previous study, to reduce the polishing time and solve the problem of the shortage of skilled workers, the automatic polishing system was developed. However, in the polishing process of die, workers have to stay still in factory to monitor the polishing process for a long time in the poor environment. Therefore, this study proposes the remote operation and monitoring system of the automatic polishing robot. The developing system offer worker monitoring functions and teleoperating functions, as following: system state check, manual manipulation mode, automatic mode, manual teaching mode, automatic teaching mode, simulation by virtual manufacturing device. And automatic teaching system is developed to easily obtain a teaching data.

Water quality observation using Principal Component Analysis

  • The aim of the present study is to define and tentatively to interpret the distribution of polluted water released from Lake Sihwa into Yellow Sea using Landsat TM. Since the region is an extreme case 2 water, empirical algorithms for chlorophyll-a and suspended sediments have limitations. This work focuses on the use of multi-temporal Landsat TM. We applied PCA to detect evolution of spatial feature of polluted water after release from the lake. The PCA results were compared with in situ data, such as chlorophyll-a, suspended sediments, Secchi disk depth (SDD), surface temperature, radiance reflectance at six bands. The in situ remote sensing reflectance was analysed with PCA. On the basis of these In situ data we found good correlation between first Principal Component and Secchi disk depth ($R^2$=0.7631), although other variables did not result in such a good correlation. The problems in applying PCA techniques to multi-spectral remote sensed data are also discussed.

  • This paper propose the new concept & design method and implementation of LonWorks network system for telemetry & remote monitoring and control in BAS. In order to apply this open system, the essential components of LonWorks is analyzed and a new concepts of its design method is proposed. In our experiment, LonWorks network system for telemetry & remote monitoring and control of lighting are designed and fabricated. As a result, it is verified that LonWorks is open, interoperable, reliable network system from the experimental results, especially, node development, network configuration & design, secure communication and MMI.

  • Geographical position and associated climatic influences can be a negative environmental condition that affects sustainable use of land resources, especially pastoral livestock production. Vegetation condition of the country is sensitively changes upon climate changes and human impacts. Within last 60 years data the annual air temperature has increased in 1.66 degrees in average and the total precipitation amount had almost no change. The main goal of this work is to relate climate change within last 20 years with pasture condition, estimated by NOAA/NDVI data set.

  • In this work a new method for on-line scene segmentation is developed. In remote sensing a scene is represented by the pixel-oriented features. It is possible to reduce data redundancy by an unsupervised segment-feature extraction process, where the segment-features, rather than the pixelfeatures, are used for multispectral scene representation. The algorithm partitions the observation space into exhaustive set of disjoint segments. Then, pixels belonging to each segment are characterized by segment features. Illustrative examples are presented, and the performance of features is investigated. Results show an average compression more than 25, the classification performance is improved for all classes, and the CPU time required for classification is reduced by the same factor.

  • In remote control of telerobotics equipment, the real-time visual feedback is necessary in order to facilitate real-time control. Because of the network congestion and the associated delays, the real-time image feedback is generally difficult in the public networks like internet. If the remote user is not able to receive the image feedback within a certain time, the work performance may tend to decrease, and it makes difficulties to control of the telerobotics equipment. In this paper, we propose an improved visual feedback scheme over the internet for telerobotics system. The size of a remote site image and its quality are adjusted for efficient transmission. The constructed system has a better real-time update characteristics, and shows a potential for the real-time visual control of the telerobotics system.

  • In an EJB 1.1 specification, every method call made to the Enterprise Java Bean, is potentially remote call. Such remote invocations use the network layer regardless of the proximity of the client to the bean, creating a network overhead. Especially. because entity bean is more notable performance fail by remote call than session bean, frequency of use on Session Bean in work-site operations is much more than Entity Bean. We focus on how to improve the performance on the entity bean with Value Object, which is one of J2EE patterns suggested by Sun Microsystems. We presents related design-issues fur performance testing, the testing results compared with original entity bean and our findings.

  • RC(Remote Control) is a technology that can efficiently control and transfer a variety of user commands to CEs. However, the existing RCs have been required various additional features such as communication between CEs, extension of communication range, low power-consumption and bi-directional communication according to the advent of new types of CE devices and its enhanced performance. Even though RC controller has many customers' requests, it is not a simple solution because most legacies work on IR-based RC. In this paper, we propose RF4CE-based Universal Remote Control Framework using Smartphone in order to solve the many constraints of IR legacies. The proposed R-URC system is designed by RF4CE platform which is a kind of de-facto standard for CE remote control communication. From the verification scenarios using various CEs and smart phone, we can see that the proposed R-URC shows the good practical usage in terms of contents sharing and smart CE control.

Haptic Display in the Virtual Cooperative Workspace (가상협동공간에서의 Haptic Display)

  • This paper presents a haptic display of a cooperative work between the networked multiple users. Excluding the possibility of large timedelay among the users, it is presented the way of configuring individual haptic display systems including the computation of interaction forces, joint driving forces of haptic devices and simulation of the virtual objects. A haptic display system is developed consisting of two haptic display devices operated by two remote users and experimental results to show the validity of the proposed method are also presented.
