  • The safety of buildings is generally estimated by analyzing a plane frame ignoring a minor bending moment. In this paper, uncertainties of reinforced concrete shear wall subjected to a biaxial bending are considered. First, major parameters are selected from all parameters of general shear wall design to perform a reliability analysis in their practical ranges, means and standard derivations of selected design parameters for the reliability analysis are calculated by a data mining as a simulation method. The bi-section method is used to find inclined neutral axis and its limit state using MATLAB subjected to the concept on strength design method. The reliability index $\beta$ as a safety index is calculated based on AFOSM(Advanced First-Order Second Moment) method. Also, if target reliability index $\beta_T$ is decided by an engineer an amount of reinforcement can be calculated by subtracting the reliability index $\beta$ from the target reliability index $\beta_T$.

  • A method for estimating software reliability for nuclear safety software is proposed in this paper. This method is based on the software reliability growth model (SRGM), where the behavior of software failure is assumed to follow a non-homogeneous Poisson process. Two types of modeling schemes based on a particular underlying method are proposed in order to more precisely estimate and predict the number of software defects based on very rare software failure data. The Bayesian statistical inference is employed to estimate the model parameters by incorporating software test cases as a covariate into the model. It was identified that these models are capable of reasonably estimating the remaining number of software defects which directly affects the reactor trip functions. The software reliability might be estimated from these modeling equations, and one approach of obtaining software reliability value is proposed in this paper.

  • Reliability in electrical power system refers to normal operation for schedule time in some system that action consists. It means that if there is no contingency of electric power supply decrease or load curtailment, reliability of the system is high. In this paper, a method for evaluation of transmission capability is proposed considering reliability standards. Deterministic and probabilistic methods for evaluation of transmission capability has been studied. These researches considered uncertainty of system components or N-1 contingency only. However, the proposed method can inform customers and system operators more suitable transmission capability. Well-being method using state probabilities of system components proves to be a more effective method in this paper comparing with calculation of LOLE(Loss of Load Expectation). The length of calculation is shorter but it can give more practical information to the exact system operators. Well-being method is applied to IEEE-RTS 24bus system to evaluate reliability in case study. The result is compared with a existing way to evaluate reliability with LOLE and it shows that transmission capability connected with adjacent networks. This paper informs system operators and power suppliers of reliable information for operating power system.

  • Remaining lifetime prediction of the underground gas pipeline plays a key role in maintenance planning and public safety. One of main causes in the pipeline failure is metal corrosion. This paper deals with estimating the pipeline reliability in the presence of corrosion defects. Because a pipeline has uncertainty and variability in its operation, probabilistic approximation approaches such as first order second moment (FOSM), first order reliability method (FORM), second order reliability method (SORM), and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) are widely employed for pipeline reliability predictions. This paper presents a fuzzy inference based reliability method (FIRM). Compared with existing methods, a distinction of our method is to incorporate a fuzzy inference into quantifying degrees of variability in corrosion defects. As metal corrosion depends on the service environment, this feature makes it easier to obtain practical predictions. Numerical experiments are conducted by using a field dataset. The result indicates that the proposed method works well and, in particular, it provides more advisory estimations of the remaining lifetime of the gas pipeline.

  • This paper is to propose two computation procedures of reliability measures for large interval data. First method is efficient to verify the relationship among four reliability measures such as F(t), R(t), f(t) and $\lambda(t)$. Another method is effective to interpret the concept of various reliability measures. This study is also to reinterpret and recompute the errors of four reliability measures discovered in the reliability textbooks. Various numerical examples are presented to illustrate the application of two proposed procedures.

  • Reliability test is focusing to detect the unexpected reliability failure and solve them for the high quality of products. The test data should be used to assess and project the current level of interesting product reliability and so it is very important to have the accurately assessing methodology with test data. There are two type of trend for test data as constant and changing one during testing and this paper shows the difference in the assessing results of these two cases. There is less information how to define the existence of reliability growth rate changing and calculate the parameters of the reliability growth models to make an accurate assessment with such condition, so i established the process and mathematical model to calculate the parameters at such condition to make reliability growth curve with high Goodness of Fit. I validated the new method with the data made from Monte Carlo Simulation and case from Demko (1993). Even the assessed result with the new methodology may be different with the case by case because of very diversity in test condition and testing product quality, but the process and method founded in this research can be applied to any case using Duane and AMSAA model for their test data assessment. I also present the evaluation method to see the effectiveness with new one which is a conventional knowledge and not popular to use, so it is possible to compare the results with the newly presented and conventional method for better business decision.

  • In this study, effective methods for reliability estimation and reliability-based design optimization(RBDO) are proposed using kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In our previous study, we proposed the accurate method for reliability estimation using two-staged kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In this study, the possibility of applying the previously proposed method to RBDO is investigated. The efficiency and accuracy of that method were much improved than those of the first order reliability method(FORM). Finally, the effective method for RBDO is proposed and applied to numerical examples. The results are compared to the existing RBDO methods and shown to be very effective and accurate.

  • This paper adopts the system configuration to assess the reliability instead of making a fault tree (FT), which is a traditional method to analyze reliability of a certain system; this is the reliability block diagram (RBD) method. The RBD method is a graphical presentation of a system diagram connecting the subsystems of components according to their functions or reliability relationships. The equipment model for the reliability simulation is modeled based on the discrete event system specification (DEVS) formalism. In order to make various alternatives of target system, this paper also adopts the system entity structure (SES), an ontological framework that hierarchically represents the elements of a system and their relationships. To enhance the calculation time of reliability analysis, GPU-based accelerations are adopted to the reliability simulation.

  • This paper provides methods for the deterministic and reliability-based design of the support pressures necessary to prevent tunnel face collapse. The deterministic method is developed by extending the use of the unique load multiplier, which is embedded within OptumG2/G3 with the intention of determining the maximum load that can be supported by a system. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional examples are presented to illustrate the applications. The obtained solutions are validated according to those derived from the existing methods. The reliability-based method is developed by incorporating the Response Surface Method and the advanced first-order second-moment reliability method into the bisection algorithm, which continuously updates the support pressure within previously determined brackets until the difference between the computed reliability index and the user-defined value is less than a specified tolerance. Two-dimensional reliability-based support pressure is compared and validated via Monte Carlo simulations, whereas the three-dimensional solution is compared with the relationship between the support pressure and the resulting reliability index provided in the existing literature. Finally, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the influences of factors on the required support pressure.
