  • Currently, increasing attention is being paid to relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystals in photoacoustic images, especially for high-end applications. Among the crystals are (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-100xPT) single crystals located near their morphotropic phase boundary (x = 0.30-0.35) because of their ultrahigh piezoelectric and electromechanical coupling properties. The alternating current poling (ACP) treatment, rather than the conventional direct current poling treatment, has recently been spotlighted due to its effectiveness in enhancing the piezoelectric properties. So far, it has been suggested that the enhanced piezoelectricity originates from either a domain miniaturization to nanodomains or from an electric-field-induced monoclinic symmetry. In this study, we demonstrate by thermally stimulated depolarization current measurements that the effect of ACP is too complex to be explained using a single mechanism and that the proposed electric-field-induced monoclinic symmetry is unlikely to exist.

  • 0.9Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-0.1Pb$TiO_3$계 완화형 강유전체에서 MnO$_2$ 첨가가 압전물성에 미치는 영향을 강유전성이 우세한 온도영역인 -40~3$0^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에 걸쳐 조사하였다. MnO$_2$ 첨가에 의한 효과를 유전특성, 압전특성, 전계유기 변형특성 등의 영역에서 고찰하였다 MnO$_2$ 첨가량이 증가할수록 유전성 및 압전성은 hard piezoelectric의 경향을 나타내었다. 이러한 실험적 고찰로부터 첨가된 Mn은 강유전 도메인 분역을 고정하는 역할을 하는 것으로 제안되었다.

  • 강유전체 0.65Pb$(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3-0.35PbTiO_3$ 고용체에 $Ag_2O$를 첨가하여 $1200^{\circ}C$에서 소결하여 시료를 제작하였다. 완성된 시료의 미세구조는 주사 전자현미경(SEM)을 이용하여 관찰하였고, 전기적 특성의 관찰을 위하여 유전상수와 유전손실, 초전계수를 측정하였다. 제작된 시료 중에서 0.2 mol%의 $Ag_2O$를 과잉 첨가한 시료에서 유전상수와 초전계수가 가장 크게 나타났다. 각 시료에서 유전상수와 초전계수의 최대값의 온도는 $Ag_2O$ 첨가량이 증가할수록 저온으로 이동하였다.

  • 세라믹 강유전체 $0.65Pb(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3-0.35PbTiO_3$ 고용체에 $ZrO_2$를 첨가하여 유전 및 초전 특성을 관찰하였다. 유전상수, 유전손실 및 초전계수의 측정온도는 상온에서 $250^{\circ}C$사이에서 측정되었다. 유전상수와 초전계수는 $0.2\;mol%ZrO_2$ 첨가에서 최대값을 얻었다. $ZrO_2$의 첨가량이 증가할수록 각 시료의 유전상수와 초전계수의 최대값은 낮은 온도로 이동하였고, 최대유전상수의 퍼짐현상은 증가하였다.

Dielectric Properties in the Pb1-3x/2Lax[(Mg1/3Ta2/3)0.66Zr0.34]O3 Systems

  • The dielectric constant and loss of poling/non-poling was measured in the $Pb_{1-3x/2}La_x[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.66}Zr_{0.34}]O_3$ samples. The addition of $La^{3+}$ to the $Pb_{1-3x/2}La_x[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.66}Zr_{0.34}]O_3$ did not cause a large change in grain size. But the addition of $La^{3+}$ did show transition temperature, which shifted toward low temperature in the $Pb[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})Zr]O_3$ systems. In addition, the dielectric and pyroelectric properties (${\varepsilon}{\sim}20000$, $p{\sim}0.03C/m^2K$) of this system using $La^{3+}$ have been greatly improved. Pyroelectrics $Pb_{0.97}La_{0.02}(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.66}Zr_{0.34}]O_3$ system was found to have a relatively high ferroelectric FOMs ($F_V{\sim}0.035m^2/C$, $F_D{\sim}0.52{\times}10^{-4}Pa^{-1/2}$) at room temperature. Spontaneous polarization showed a value of $0.27{\sim}0.35C/m^2$ in the composition added to $La^{3+}$. The piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}=350{\sim}490pC/N$) and electromechanical coupling factor ($k_P=0.25{\sim}0.35$) are obtained in $Pb_{1-3x/2}La_x[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.66}Zr_{0.34}]O_3$ compositions with $La^{3+}$ dopant.

  • The dielectric properties and phase transformation of poled <001>-oriented $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-x%PbTiO_3$(PMN-x%PT) single crystals with compositions of x = 20, 30, and 35 mole% are investigated for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. An electric-field-induced monoclinic phase was observed for the initial poled PMN-30PT and PMN-35PT samples by means of high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction. The monoclinic phase appears from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$ and from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ for the PMN-30PT and PMN-35PT samples, respectively. The dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}$)-temperature (T) characteristics above the Curie temperature were found to be described by the equation$(1/{\varepsilon}-1/{\varepsilon}_m)^{1/n}=(T-T_m)/C$, where ${\varepsilon}_m$ is the maximum dielectric constant and $T_m$ is the temperature giving ${\varepsilon}_m$, and n and C are constants that change with the composition. The value of n was found to be 1.82 and 1.38 for 20PT and 35PT, respectively. The results of mesh scans and the temperature-dependence of the dielectric constant demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to a single domain tetragonal phase and a to paraelectric cubic phase. In the ferroelectric tetragonal phase with a single domain state, the dielectric constant measured perpendicular to the poling direction was dramatically higher than that measured in the parallel direction. A large dielectric constant implies easier polarization rotation away from the polar axis. This enhancement is believed to be related to dielectric softening close to the morphotropic phase boundary.

<001> 0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 단결정의 상변화 및 유전 특성 (Phase Transformation and Dielectric Properties of <001> 0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 Single Crystals)

  • The structure and dielectric properties of poled <001>-oriented 0.7Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.3PbTiO_3$ (PMN-0.3PT) crystals have been investigated for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. An electric field induced monoclinic phase was observed for the initial poled sample. The phase remained stable after the field was removed. A quite different temperature dependence of dielectric constant has been observed between heating and cooling due to an irreversible phase transformation. The results of mesh scans and temperature dependence of the dielectric constant demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to a single domain tetragonal phase at 370K and to a paraelectric cubic phase at 405K upon heating. However, upon subsequent cooling from the unpoled state, the cubic phase changes to a poly domain tetragonal phase and to a rhombohedral phase. In the ferroelectric tetragonal phase with a single domain state, the dielectric constant measured perpendicular to the poling direction was dramatically higher than that of the parallel direction. A large dielectric constant implies easier polarization rotation away from the polar axis. This enhancement is believed to be related to dielectric softening close to the morphotropic phase boundary and at the phase transition temperature.

PNN [$Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$] and PZN[$Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ powders prepared by double calcination and PZT powders prepared by molten-salt synthesis method. The formation rate of perovskite phase in PNN-PZN-PZT ceramics could be obtained about 92% at PZT 0.3 mole ratio. The relative permittivity of specimen with PZT 0.3 mole ratio was shown 5,320 and appeared the relaxor ferroelectric feature. The maximum piezoelectric coefficient $d_{31}$ to be used for evaluation the displacement of piezoceramics in PNN-PZN-PZT ceramics was $324{\times}10^{-12}$(C/V) at the vicinity of morphotropic phase boundary and was larger than that of solid PZT ceramics($120{\times}10^{-12}C/V$).

PNN-P2N-PZT ceramics were fabricated with various mole ratio of the PZT[Pb(Zr$_{1}$2//Ti$_{1}$2)O$_3$]. PNN (Pb(Ni$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$]and PZN[Pb(Zn$_{1}$3//Nb/sbu 2/3/)O$_3$] powders prepared by double calcination and PZT powders prepared by molten- salt synthesis method. The relative permittivity of specimen with PZT 0.3 mole ratio was shown 5,320 and appeared the relaxor ferroelectric feature.
