We propose a weighted time-reversal prefilter for indoor wireless communication systems. In the indoor wireless communication environments, the bit error rate (BER) performance is significantly degraded by the delay spread. The conventional schemes have complex receivers to recover deterioration of the BER. The proposed time-reversal prefilter simplifies the structure of receivers, minimizes the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and maintains the peak power level of the received signal. The simulation results show that the weighted time-reversal prefilter improves the BER performance in comparison with the conventional time-reversal prefilter.
A 40-channel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) system was constructed for measuring neuromagnetic fields. Main features of the system are the use of double relaxation oscillation SQUIDs (DROSs), and planar gradiometers measuring magnetic field components tangential to the head surface. The DROSs with high flux-to-voltage transfers enabled direct readout of the SQUID output by room-temperature dc preamplifiers and simple flux-locked loop circuits could be used for SQUID operation. The pickup coil is an integrated first-order planar gradiometer with a baseline of 40 mm. Average noise level of the 40 channels is around 1.2 $fT/cm/{\surd}Hz$ at 100 Hz, corresponding to a field noise of 5 $fT/{\surd}Hz$, operated inside a magnetically shielded room. The SQUID insert was designed to have low thermal load, minimizing the loss of liquid helium. The constructed system was applied to measure auditory-evoked neuromagnetic fields.

In this paper, we investigate a security transmission scheme at the physical layer for cooperative wireless relay networks in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. While the security scheme has been previously investigated with perfect channel state information(CSI) in the presence of a passive eavesdropper, this paper focuses on researching the robust cooperative relay beamforming mechanism for wireless relay networks which makes use of artificial noise (AN) to confuse the eavesdropper and increase its uncertainty about the source message. The transmit power used for AN is maximized to degrade the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) level at the eavesdropper, while satisfying the individual power constraint of each relay node and worst-case SINR constraint at the desired receiver under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the CSI error vector from the relays to the destination. Cooperative beamforming weight vector in the security scheme can be obtained by using S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques. The benefit of the proposed scheme is showed in simulation results.

There has been a lot of research into the essence of the smile, but so far just a few studies have been done on the relationship between personality and smile. On the assumption that smile aesthetics are closely related to individual physical condition and psychological state, this study investigated the correlation between personality factors and smile scores. The Personality Factor Questionnaire test was administered to 60 university students (male : 30, female : 30) who have no teeth missing, no experience of orthodontic or prosthodontic treatment and good dentition. Then, portraits were taken in a full smile. Esthetic smile scores were estimated by 10 appraisers who were dentists. These scores were analyzed statistically using the SAS program. The following results were obtained. 1. Personality factors of Warmth, Stableness, Surgency, Boldness, Untroubled-adequacy, Group-dependence, Relaxation, Extraversion, Low anxiety were positively correlated to the aesthetic level of smile. 2. For females, personality factors had greater influence on smile aesthetics, whereas male smile aesthetics were less influenced by personality factors.
Recent deregulation of Korean electricity industry has made each power generation company pay more attention to maximizing its own profit instead of minimizing the overall system operation cost while guaranteeing system security. Electricity power generation problem is typically defined as the problem of determining both the on and off status and the power generation level of each generator under the given fuel constraints, which has been known as Profit-Based Unit Commitment (PBUC) problem. To solve the PBUC problem, the previous research mostly focused on devising Lagrangian Relaxation (LR) based heuristic algorithms due to the complexity of the problem and the nonlinearity of constraints and objectives. However, these heuristic approaches have been reported as less practical in real world applications since the computational run time is usually quite high and it may take a while to implement the devised heuristic algorithms as software applications. Especially when considering long-term planning problem which spans at least one year, the complexity becomes higher. Therefore, this paper proposes an explicit column generation algorithm using power generation patterns and the proposed algorithm is successfully applied to a Korean power generation company. The proposed scheme has a robust structure so that it is expected to extend general PBUC problems.
Korean population is ecpected to reach about 50 million by year 2000. And per capita GNP might attain the $5,000 level. This is bound to have profound impact on housing. For one thing, population and income growth will accelerate new household formation thus increasing new housing needs. On the other, changes in the housing preference function in association with income growth and new way of life would mean increasing demand for better dwelling environment. In addition, by year 2000, there will be many more elderly households necessitating new approaches to housing. The question is whether or not Korea could cope with new housing perspectives. If Korean housing has made in the past some progress in housing quality, it has not been able to tackle the mounting housing shortage. This is attributable to the concentration of effective housing demand in the hands of upper income groups in association with skewed income distribution and sustained dwelling price hike. Korea needs some basic changes in housing policy. The public sector should produce much more small dwellings either for sales or renting. Second, mortgage loans should be expanded so as to increase the access to housing. Third, every thing must be done to cut down the dwelling price through tax cut, relaxation of some requlations, cyclical stabilization of dwelling construction and loan subsidies.
We studied the red, green and blue upconverted emission in 1 at.% $Er^{3+}: LaF_3$ and 1 at.% $Er^{3+}:YAlO_3$ crystals y pumping in 780~820 nm range at 14 K and 295 K. A cw titanium-sapphire laser was used to pump the $^4I_{9/2}$ level in two materials. The spectral analysis of the emission from $^4F_{9/2},\;^4S_{3/2}$ and $^2P_{3/2}$ levels allowed to reveal the upconversion process with multi-step absorption and cross-relaxation energy transfer.
In recent years the pure displacement formulation for plate elements has not been as popular as other formulations. We revisit the pure displacement formulation for shear-deformable plate elements and propose a family of N-node, displacement-compatible, fully-integrated, pure-displacement, triangular, Mindlin plate elements, MIN-N. The development has been motivated by the relative simplicity of the pure displacement formulation and by the success of the existing 3-node plate element, MIN3. The formulation of MIN3 is generalized to obtain the MIN-N family, which possesses complete, fully compatible kinematic fields, in which the interpolation functions for transverse displacement are one degree higher than those for rotations. General element-level formulas for the thin-limit Kirchhoff constraints are developed. The 6-node, 18 degree-of-freedom element MIN6, with cubic displacement and quadratic rotations, is implemented and tested extensively. Numerical results show that MIN6 exhibits good performance for both static and dynamic analyses in the linear, elastic regime. The results illustrate that the fully-integrated MIN6 element has excellent performance in the thin limit, even for coarse meshes, and that it does not require shear relaxation.

Impedance and electrical conduction studies of $Ba(Nd_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ ceramic prepared using conventional high temperature solid-state reaction technique are presented. The crystal symmetry, space group and unit cell dimensions were estimated using Rietveld analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated the formation of a single-phase cubic structure with space group $Pm\bar{3}m$. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis and scanning electron microscopy studies were carried to study the quality and purity of compound. The circuit model fittings were carried out using the impedance data to find the correlation between the response of real system and idealized model electrical circuit. Complex impedance analyses suggested the dielectric relaxation to be of non-Debye type and negative temperature coefficient of resistance character. The correlated barrier hopping model was employed to successfully explain the mechanism of charge transport in $Ba(Nd_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$. The ac conductivity data were used to evaluate the density of states at Fermi level, minimum hopping length and apparent activation energy.

This paper considers a joint problem for blood inventory planning at hospitals and blood delivery planning from blood centers to hospitals, in order to alleviate the blood service imbalance between big and small hospitals being occurred in practice. The joint problem is to determine delivery timing, delivery quantity, delivery means such as medical drones and legacy blood vehicles, and inventory level to minimize inventory and delivery costs while satisfying hospitals' blood demand over a planning horizon. This problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming model by considering practical constraints such as blood lifespan and drone specification. To solve the problem, this paper employs a Lagrangian relaxation technique and suggests a time efficient Lagrangian heuristic algorithm. The performance of the suggested heuristic is evaluated by conducting computational experiments on randomly-generated problem instances, which are generated by mimicking the real data of Korean Red Cross in Seoul and other reliable sources. The results of computational experiments show that the suggested heuristic obtains near-optimal solutions in a shorter amount of time. In addition, we discuss the effect of changes in the length of blood lifespan, the number of planning periods, the number of hospitals, and drone specifications on the performance of the suggested Lagrangian heuristic.
