The Study on Storage Stability according to Packaging Material of Traditional Sesame Dasik (깨다식의 포장재에 따른 저장성 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the preservation of traditional sesame dasik when stored in different packaging material by comparing its physical and sensorial characteristics. The quality and sensory characteristics of sesame dasik that were evaluated were moisture content, water activity, number of microflora, texture profile, Hunter color different value, and sensory properties (color, chewiness, overall acceptability, etc) during the storage at 35\pm1^\circ{C}$ temperature and $73\pm{2%}$ relative humidity. And the packaging materials were paper boxes (coated 0.02mm thickness polyethylene film), plastic boxes, and oriented polypropylene laminated film. Traditional sesame dasik is made from sesame powder 100g, honey 25g, rice syrup 25g, and table salt 0.5g. During the storage period, the changes in water content and water activity of sesame dasik with different packaging material showed a slight decline. On the other hand, it increased in hardness, and "a" and "b" value of Hunter color difference during the storage. Texture profile analysis data change in hardness was the greatest after the third day in a paper box, and it was affected by the moisture content of dasik and the temperature and relative humidity of the air. Therefore plastic boxes or oriented polypropylene laminated film was found to be better suited than paper boxes for storing sesame dasik.

Effect of xylitol and erythritol on the quality characteristics of Yuza tea (자이리톨과 에리스리톨을 이용한 유자차의 품질 특성)

  • The effects of xylitol and/or erythritol as the alternative ingredients to sugar on the quality characteristics of Yuza tea were studied. The relative sweetness of xylitol and erythritol to a 10% sucrose solution were 1.10 and 0.71 respectively and there were no change after the addition of the acid and flavoring agent. The sensory characteristics of Yuza tea with xylitol were quite similar in many attributes to Yuza tea with sugar, while Yuza tea with erythritol had many undesirable attributes. Yuza tea with a mixture of xylitol and erythritol(1:1) was less sweet and less acceptable than Yuza tea with sugar. The consumer acceptance test showed that the overall acceptability of Yuza tea made with xylitol was similar to the Yuza tea with sugar. Adding sucralose to the Yuza tea with a mixture of xylitol and erythritol improved the sweetness and overall acceptability in the consumer acceptance test. The pH value of the erythritol Yuza tea was 3.16 and showed a significantly lower value than the 3.39 of sugar and xylitol. The refractive index of the sugar Yuza tea was the highest at 21.03$^{\circ}$Bx. The vitamin C content of Yuzachung with sugar was 34.5mg/100g and the dietary fiber content was 2,80g/100g. Xylitol Yuzachung showed the highest a and b values, but when it was diluted with water to make Yuza tea, the intensity of the color was not significantly different from the Yuza tea with sugar.

  • ${\delta}^{13}C$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$ values were determined for the Paleozoic limestones (Great Linestone Series) from the Taebaegsan region and the age-unknown limestones (Janggun Formation) from the Janggun mine, Korea. Limestones of the Great Limestone Series exhibit a range of carbon isotopic composition from -4.5 +1.3‰ with a mean ${\delta}^{13}C$ value of -1.1‰, relative to the PDB standard, and of oxygen isotpic composition from +8.8 to +23.3‰ with a mean ${\delta}^{18}O$ value of +16.0‰, relative to the SMOW, falling into the normal marine limestone range according to Keith and Weber (1964), and Degens and Epstein(1964). Carbon isotopic composition of limestones of the Great Limestone Series becomes progressively lighter from Pungchon limestone of middle Cambrian age to mid-Ordovician Maggol limestone, possibly due to change in depositional environment in the Taebaegsan basin. Variation in isotopic composition of limestones from Hwajeol to Dumugal formation offers the possibility or deposition in shallow sea environment, in which fresh waters were added in several stages. Janggun limestone of unknown age may be corelated with the Paleozoic limestones of Great Limestone Series as infered from the istopic composition ranging from -2.8 to + 0.7‰ of ${\delta}^{13}C$ and +13.4 to +22.4‰ of ${\delta}^{18}O$.

The Estimation Method and Application of UV-cut effect in Lens (렌즈에서 UV 차단효과의 평가방법 및 적용)

  • In order to estimate the UV-A line's cut efficiency it lens, it was measured the light transmittance in the 320~400nm wavelength regions. We obtained the area to integrate the light transmittance of standard CR-39 and sample in the 320~400nm wavelength regions and established ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ of UV-A line's cut efficiency by contrast its area. We obtained the absolute cut efficiency ${\alpha}$ CR=0.59 value of CR-39 Lens, and if ${\alpha}$ was the absolute cut efficiency value of the lens to estimate UV-A cut effect, the relative cut efficiency ${\beta}$ was $1.69{\alpha}$. It was obtained the absolute and the relative UV exclusion index through each $a=(1-{\alpha}){\times}100%$, $b=(1-{\beta}){\times}100%$.

  • Background: The resource-based relative value scale has been applied to Korean medicine services as part of the National Health Insurance, yet the proper scoring method for physician's work needs to be developed. Objectives: To measure physician's work for Korean medicine services using Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) and to compare results abstracted by AHP with those by Magnitude Estimation method. Methods: We developed the AHP questionnaires for Korean Medicine services and administered it to 12 Korean medicine insurance experts. Weighted scores were calculated and were converted into physician's work scores. Results: In AHP measurement, the physician's work scores for acupuncture activities, especially special acupunctures, far increased, while those for diagnosis and basic consultations decreased. Variations in the scores enlarged. Conclusions: As an alternative, AHP method can be considered for measuring the physician's work for Korean medicine services with careful management of scoring variation.

  • Characteristics of Al-based composites with waste stainless steel short fiber, fabricated by magnetic pulsed compaction and sintering were investigated. The compacts prepared by magnetic pulsed compaction showed high relative density and homogeneous microstructure compared with that by conventional press compaction. The relative density of sintered composites at $430^{\circ}C$ for 1 h exhibited the same value with compacts and decreased with increase in STS short fiber content. The reaction between Al and STS phase was confirmed by the microstructural analysis using EDS. The sintered composites, prepared by magnetic pulsed compaction, showed increased hardness value with increasing STS fiber content. Maximum yield strength of 100 MPa and tensile strength of 232 MPa were registered in the AI-based composite with 30 vol% STS short fiber.

  • This paper discusses a multi-dimensional analysis for Customer Relationship Management (CRM). For this, We propose a decision-making methodology which employs three analysis models. The first model is a three-dimension positioning map to derive a strategy which achieves the Process Value Line (PVL). The second model is the web-shape analysis model to visibly understand the individual based on the customer CSI (Customer Satisfactory Index) data. The third model which supports the web-shape analysis model, is the relative satisfactory analysis model. It considers a satisfaction level after purchasing against before purchasing. Then we perform overall analysis based on the three analysis models to provide marketing strategies to decision makers.

  • The physical and electrical properties of $\textrm{Ba}_1$ $_{x}\textrm{Sr}_{x}$($\textrm{Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}}$)$\textrm{O}_3$ (x =0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) ceramics were investigated. The Bal $_{x}\textrm{Sr}_{x}$($\textrm{Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}}$)$\textrm{O}_3$ systems were shown that the hexagonally ordered superlattices were increased with increasing x values. The relative densities of all samples were over 97% theoretical densities. The dc resistivities of samples were $10^{13}$ - $10^{14}$$\Omega\textrm{cm}$at room temperature, these values were nearly constant at 130(x=0)-$230^{\circ}C$ (x=l). However, the resistivities of samples decreased rapidly above those temperature and their activation energies were from 1.0 to 1.52 eV. The relative dielectric constant was 33(BMN) and 30.6(SMN) respectively. And the highest value was shown at x=0.4 and the value was 34.3. The temperature coefficient of dielectric constant was -61 ppm/$^{\circ}C$(BMN) and 79 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ (SMN) respectively.

A Vtub-Shaped Hazard Rate Function with Applications to System Safety

  • In reliability engineering, the bathtub-shaped hazard rates play an important role in survival analysis and many other applications as well. For the bathtub-shaped, initially the hazard rate decreases from a relatively high value due to manufacturing defects or infant mortality to a relatively stable middle useful life value and then slowly increases with the onset of old age or wear out. In this paper, we present a new two-parameter lifetime distribution function, called the Loglog distribution, with Vtub-shaped hazard rate function. We illustrate the usefulness of the new Vtub-shaped hazard rate function by evaluating the reliability of several helicopter parts based on the data obtained in the maintenance malfunction information reporting system database collected from October 1995 to September 1999. We develop the S-Plus add-in software tool, called Reliability and Safety Assessment (RSA), to calculate reliability measures include mean time to failure, mean residual function, and confidence Intervals of the two helicopter critical parts. We use the mean squared error to compare relative goodness of fit test of the distribution models include normal, lognormal, and Weibull within the two data sets. This research indicates that the result of the new Vtub-shaped hazard rate function is worth the extra function-complexity for a better relative fit. More application in broader validation of this conclusion is needed using other data sets for reliability modeling in a general industrial setting.

Cytotoxic Effect of Radioprotective Ginseng Protein Fraction on CHO-KI Cells (방사선 방어작용이 있는 인삼 단백분획의 CHO-KI 세포에 대한 세포 독성)

  • Radioprotective ginseng protein fraction was isolated from Korean white ginseng and its cytotoxic effect on CHO-K1 cells was studied by the method of measuring the relative cell survival and total cellular protein content (FRAME method). When ginseng protein at the dose of 300, 600, 900, $1200{\mu}g/ml$ was treated to cells for 24 hrs, the relative survival was significantly decreased at the concentration of above $600{\mu}g/ml$, indicating the presence of cytotoxic effect of the protein at certain concentration. When cellular protein content was measured after ginseng protein at the dose of 300, 600, 900, $1200\;{\mu}g/ml$ was treated, the amount of cellular protein was significantly reduced at the concentration above $600{\mu}g/ml$ in the case of 24 hr treatment and at all concentrations including $300{\mu}g/ml$ in the case of 72 hr treatment. The data suggest that the protein may inhibit cell growth, resulting in the reduction of live cells in culture. $ID_{50}$ value which is the concentration of ginseng protein that reduces the total cellular protein content to 50% of the control was calculated as 2276.86 and $1323.32\;{\mu}g/ml$ in groups treated for 24 and 72 hr, respectively. Since $ID_{50}$ value of above $1000{\mu}g/ml$ indicates very weak cytotoxicity, the ginseng protein seems to exert very weak cytotoxic effect on CHO-K1 cells.
