The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of children's self-regulation and teacher-child relationships on children's social behaviors. Participants were 239 4- to 5-year-old children(114 boys, 125 girls) and their 23 teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure children's social behaviors and teacher-child relationships. Children's self-regulation was assessed by a mother reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlations and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major results of this study were as follows: First, Children's social behaviors were partially correlated with children's self-regulation and teacher-child relationships. Second, The most influential factor by children's social behaviors was teacher-child relationship. Specially, teacher-child intimacy was the most powerful factor predicting children's asocial behavior and prosocial behavior. While teacher-child conflict was the most powerful factor influencing children's aggressive behavior, hyperactive-distractible behavior and anxious-fearful behavior. Findings are discussed in terms of the importance of teacher-child relationships in the context of program development and guidance for maladjusted children.
The goals of the present study are two-fold: 1) to examine NNS teachers' needs for training period in improving their general communicative competence and classroom communicative competence, and 2) to explore the relationships of teachers' needs for the training period, and their current levels of general/classroom communicative competence and other background variables. Data was collected from seventy primary and secondary school English teachers (N=70) who participated in the six-month intensive teacher training program in South Korea. The teacher trainees responded to four questionnaires of 1) the self-diagnosis of their current levels of four language skills (L/S/R/W) in both general/classroom communicative competence, 2) the training period required to improve their general/classroom communicative competence for teaching both English and other subjects through English, 3) the period of their English teaching, and 4) the proportion of their English use in class. The data analysis has shown that there were the strong relationships between trainee needs for the training period and their teaching period, and the proportion of their English use in class. In terms of trainees' communicative competence, the significant relations of both their general/classroom communicative competence and their needs for the training period were found. Implications of the findings are discussed.
This study aimed to examine the direct effects of relationships with parents, peers, and community child center teachers on the school adjustment of low-income adolescents attending community child centers and the indirect effects mediated through adolescents' resilience. The second-term panel data from the fourth-year Community Child Center Survey was used to analyze 198 adolescents (103 boys, 95 girls) who were first graders at middle schools. SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 were used to analyze the data through structural equation modeling. The results of the study were as follows: Parental monitoring and peer trust had direct effects on the adolescents' school adjustment, while satisfaction with community child center teachers did not. Parental monitoring, peer trust, and satisfaction with community child center teachers had indirect effects on adolescents' school adjustment mediated through resilience. The school adjustment of low-income adolescents has received attention from both researchers and politicians. The results of this study are notable in that both the important relationships and resilience of low-income adolescents can significantly contribute to their school adjustment in their first year at middle school. Given the developmental needs of low-income adolescents, interventions for school adjustment that consider adolescents' important social contexts and psychological characteristics should be developed.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of child care teachers' happiness and social support on job performance. Methods: The subjects were 380 teachers employed in child care centers and kindergartens in Gyeonggi Province. Self-report questionnaires were used to investigate teachers' happiness, social support and job performance. The data were analyzed by frequency, percent, Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression with the SPSS program. Results: The results of this study were as follow. First, teachers' job performance was positively associated with teachers' happiness. The highest correlation sub-variable was purpose in life. Next were personal growth, self-acceptance, environmental mastery and autonomy. And the last was positive relationships with others. Teachers' job performance was positively associated with teachers' social support. The highest correlation sub-variable was evaluative support. Next were affective support and material support. And the last was informative support. Second, teachers' happiness and social support affected job performance. Evaluative support, which was a sub-variable of social support, affected job satisfaction. And personal growth, purpose in life, and self-acceptance, which were sub-variables of happiness, affected job satisfaction. Conclusion: This study revealed that teacher's happiness and social support were important factors for teachers job performance.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore and understand the experiences of innocent child care teachers who had been suspected of abusing children at child care centers. Methods: Ten innocent child care teachers who had been suspected of child abuse participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data. Data were analyzed using Creswell's analytical framework. Results: The findings of the study are as follows. First, teachers' perceptions of CCTV were positive, while parents' mistrust in CCTV formed the teachers' negative perception of it. Second, the teachers were also withdrawn from their relationships with parents, children, and other employees in child care centers. Finally, they suffered from psychological burnout after they were suspected of child abuse. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests that it is necessary to provide legal and institutional support to protect teachers' human rights and to prevent relationship dissolution and burnout in traumatic situations.
The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationships among factors affecting teachers' robot-based SW education acceptance in primary school. In addition, this study investigated moderating effects of gender, age, and experience. For this purpose, 171 elementary school teachers participated in this study and structural equation modeling analyses were employed to examine the causal relationships among variables. The result of this study showed that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, personal innovativeness had direct effects on attitude. Furthermore, attitude mediated relationships between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, personal innovativeness and intention to use. Third, the moderating effects of experience between perceived usefulness, personal innovativeness and attitude were significant, but gender and age were not significant on all paths. Based on the results of this study, successful teaching practices, cases, and contents should be shared with teachers. Also, continuous supports and differentiated strategies based on experience are needed.
This study investigated relationships among infant development, teacher's sensitivity, home literacy environment, and infant-teacher interaction in the child care setting. Verbal and behavioral interactions between 30 2-year-old infant-teacher pairs were video-recorded during free play activities; teachers' sensitivity was observed by trained observers; infant development was assessed by teachers; data on the early home literacy environment were gathered through maternal self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, and correlation analyses. Results indicated that boys showed more naming; girls showed more physical contact with teachers. Infants high in overall developmental level showed more behavioral interaction with teachers. Teacher's sensitivity correlated positively with behavioral imitating and negatively with questioning and nodding. Verbal interaction in the home correlated positively with nodding.
A questionnaire was distributed to 102 teachers who worked in non-profit, for-profit and company-operated child care centers. The relationships of demographic, work conditions, and social support variables were examined by correlation, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regressions. Results showed that working hours, salary and social support were the most important factors influencing emotional exhaustion. Higher levels of burnout were found among teachers of infants and toddlers who worked for more than 12 hours on average, teachers with lower salary, and those with a lower level of social support. Results in general indicated that shorter working hours was a very important variable for reduction in burnout among teachers of infants and toddlers.
This study used a qualitative research method to comprehensively deal with child care training in depth with the following content: the goals of child care teachers preparing for practical training; how they perform and feel about their roles throughout the training period as child care teachers; and their evaluation after the training period. A total of 10 people participated in the research and the training activities of child care teachers were qualitatively explored based on the results. The research findings are as follows. First, child care teachers have expectations for prospective teachers and take time for self-evaluation while preparing for teaching. Also, child care teachers set a goal of helping prospective teachers develop into outstanding teachers and have expectations for it. Second, child care teachers evaluate prospective teachers by treating them as colleagues while teaching them. Furthermore, child care teachers consider themselves as educators who train and produce child care professionals. Prospective teachers define their roles as assistants and learners in the actual educational scene. In addition, child care teachers feel a sense of pride by performing as hands-on training teachers. At the same time, they reflect on themselves by evaluating their duties as educators in their relationships with prospective teachers. Third, child care teachers suggested the need for changing the training system for themselves and prospective teachers after training. In addition, they argued that the gaps between school education and the actual educational scene should be reduced through solid training for acquiring new knowledge and information in both places in accordance with the rapidly-changing child care environment. Finally, the suggested the necessity of establishing a standard training curriculum and educational programs within their institution.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between elementary school teachers' points of view about the organization of the science curriculum and their views on the nature of science (NOS). We surveyed 132 elementary school teachers' view points about these two kinds of views, analyzed the data by their variables, and compared the two viewpoints with their personal details. The elementary school teachers thought the science curriculum should be emphasized through the process more than contents. They thought the contents of the science curriculum should be integrated rather than separated. As teachers' career progressed, they focused on the contents more than the process. On the other hands, because elementary school teachers showed the NOS views as relativism, deductivism, decontextualism, content, and instrumentalism, when we plotted sub-viewpoints of NOS in process-content dimension, we thought it would be similar distributions with point of views on the organization of science curriculum. However, there was no meaningful relation. This showed that teachers' views on the organization of the curriculum and the NOS are totally different. These findings suggest further research is needed to find how factors influence elementary school teachers' views on the organization of the science curriculum and what inclinations can occur in science classes with their different views.
