A Study on the influence of College Student's Usage Motivation of SNS and Interpersonal relationship orientation on MSNS(Mobile Social Network Service) addiction Proneness Addition tendencies (대학생들의 SNS 이용동기, 대인관계지향성이 MSNS(Mobile Social Network Service) 중독경향성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate influences of usage motivation of SNS and interpersonal relationship orientation on Mobile Social Network Service(MSNS) addition proneness. For this purpose, questionnaires including MSNS addition Proneness scale, usage motivation of SNS scale and interpersonal relationship orientation scale were administered to 250 college students in Seoul. Regression analysis revealed that usage motivation of SNS showed influences of interpersonal relationship orientation. The Usage motivation of SNS showed influences of MSNS addiction proneness, interpersonal relationship orientation showed partial influence MSNS addiction proneness. The result of this study implicated that level of MSNS addiction tendencies needs to be considered for counseling with used of SNS motives. This study findings would contribute in development of preventive interventions for SNS addiction and improvement program for interpersonal competence in college students. Futhermore, exploration of various ways to satisfy motivation of interpersonal relation would be helpful to reduce SNS addiction tendencies. Finally, based on the result, implications of finding, limitation and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Structural Causal Relationships among Service Image, Service Satisfaction, Emotional Commitment and Customer Loyalty in Hospitals: Moderating Effects of Relationship Proneness (병원의 서비스이미지, 서비스만족, 감정적 몰입 및 고객충성도 간 구조적 인과관계: 관계성향의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structural causal relationships between service image, service satisfaction, affective commitment, and customer loyalty to customers who have experienced hospital medical services, and to identifies the mediating effect of relationship proneness in explaining the effects of service image, service satisfaction, and affectivel commitment on customer loyalty. For this study, 250 respondents were surveyed and data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0 statistical package. Statistical analysis tools, such as SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0 were utilized for ensuring the validity and the reliability, whereas the SEM method was used for testing the research hypothesis. The results of study are as follows. Service image had significant influence on service satisfaction and emotional commitment. First, Service satisfaction was significant for emotional commitment and customer loyalty, and emotional commitment had a significant effect on customer loyalty. Therefore, the path relations between variables were all statistically significant. Second, there was differences the moderating effect of the relationship proneness in the effects of service satisfaction, service image and affective commitment on customer loyalty. In other words, the moderating effect of the relationship tendency was consistent with the research hypothesis and the adjustment effect was significant in the relationship between service satisfaction and customer loyalty. However, there was no control effect in relation to service image and customer loyalty and affective commitment and customer loyalty. Therefore, In order to secure long-term and stable profits by establishing a relationship with their customers, the medical service marketing strategies of hospitals should be promoted to enhance customer loyalty by raising the level of service satisfaction to high relationship proneness group and by raising the the level of affective commitment to low relationship proneness group.

Relationship between Adolescents' Internal and External Boredom Proneness and Game Addiction: Mediation Effects of Sensation Seeking (청소년들의 내적 권태성향 및 외적 권태성향과 게임중독의 관계: 감각추구성향의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the mediation effects of sensation seeking on the relationship between internal and external boredom proneness and game addiction. For this study, 567 middle school students in Kyungki and Chungcheong were included in the analysis. The results showed that both internal boredom proneness and external boredom proneness were positively correlated with game addiction. Internal boredom proneness was negatively correlated with all subscales of sensation seeking, whereas external boredom proneness was positively correlated with boredom susceptibility and disinhibition. Sensation seeking was found only to partially mediate the influence of the adolescents' external boredom proneness (independent variable) on game addiction(dependent variable). Based on these results, suggestions for game addiction intervention and future studies were mentioned.

Effects of Abusive Experiences on Adolescent's Suicidal Ideation : Focusing on Mediating Effects of Shame-proneness and Friendships (아동기 학대경험과 청소년의 자살생각 간의 관계 : 수치심과 친구관계의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to assess the roll of various abusive factors on suicide thoughts. In particular, the effects of negligence, physical and emotional abuse, as the subordinate variables of abuse, were examined on suicide ideation. In addition, the mediation effects of shame-proneness and friendships were also investigated. To achieve these specific objectives, subordinate dimensions of abuse such as negligence, physical abuse and emotional abuse were measured for 277 male and 275 female students from Seoul middle schools using a measurement tool. Specifically, experiences of being abused and neglected, the level of suicide thoughts using scale for suicidal ideation (SSI), the level of shame-proneness and friendships using personal feelings questionnaire-2(PFQ-2), and schoolmate relationships were measured using a questionnaire. Analysis of collected data revealed that while suicide thoughts showed significant positive relationship with abuse and shame-proneness, there was a significant negative relationship between suicide thoughts and friendships. In particular, negligence, physical abuse and emotional abuse had significant effects on suicide ideation, while emotional abuse had the greatest effect on suicide ideation. Shame-proneness and friendships partially mediated abuse and suicide thoughts. The findings of this study have contributed to understanding of factors related to suicide thoughts. In particular, the mediation effects of shame-proneness and friendships have been highlighted.

Influence of Covert Narcissism on the SNS Addiction Proneness in University Student: Mediating Effect of Anger Expression (대학생의 내현적 자기애가 SNS중독경향성에 미치는 영향: 분노표현의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of anger expression between covert narcissism and SNS addiction proneness. It was conducted to measure anger expression, covert narcissism, and SNS addiction proneness from 252(132 male, 120 female) university students. The mediating effect was analyzed through Preacher and Hayes' SPSS Macro and bootstrapping analysis. As a result of analysis, first, there were positive relationship among covert narcissism, anger expression, and SNS addiction proneness. Second, anger-out had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and SNS addiction proneness. Third, anger-out had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and disturbance of adaptive life and control failure, preoccupation and tolerance, avoidance of negative emotions. Forth, anger-in and anger-control had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and virtual life orientation and withdrawal. Implications of these results were explored in relation to the importance of covert narcissism and SNS addiction proneness. In addition, this implication and suggestions for future research are provided.

A Preliminary Study on the Effectiveness of the Peer Relationship Enhancement Program in Adolescents at Risk for Internet and Smartphone Addiction

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the preliminary effects of the Peer Relationship Enhancement Program in adolescents deemed to be in an at-risk group for Internet and smartphone addiction. Methods: The study group consisted of 33 adolescent participants (24 boys and 9 girls) at risk of Internet and smartphone addiction in small and medium-sized cities. The subjects participated in 8 consecutive sessions of the Peer Relationship Enhancement Program. The Korean Internet Addiction Proneness Scale, the Korean Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale, the Real-Ideal Self Discrepancy Scale, the UCLA Loneliness Scale, the Peer Intimacy Scale, and the Escaping from the Self Scale were evaluated before the initial and after the final session. A paired t-test was performed to statistically analyze the data. Results: The Peer Relationship Enhancement Program led to a significant decrease (p<0.05) in self-reported measures of The Korean Internet Addiction Proneness Scale, the Korean Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale, and the Real-Ideal Self Discrepancy Scale. Conclusion: The Peer Relationship Enhancement Program reduces the risk of Internet and smartphone addiction and effectively prevents the associated problems.

Relationship between Covert Narcissism and Selfie Addiction Proneness: Focused on Mediating Effects of Self-objectification and Self-presentational Motivation (성인 여성의 내현적 자기애와 셀카 중독경향성 간의 관계: 자기대상화 및 자기제시동기의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examines the mediating effects of learned helplessness and procrastination in the relationship between covert narcissim and selfie addiction proneness among women. The study subjects were 286 women with a mean age of 23.78(SD=4.34) years. The results of the study are as follows. First, there were significantly positive correlations between covert narcissism, self-objectification, self-presentational motivation, and selfie addiction proneness. Second, covert narcissism, self-objectification, self-presentational motivation were significant predictors for selfie addiction proneness and they accounted 25.7% for variance of selfie addiction proneness. Especially, self-presentational motivation accounted for selfie addiction proneness the most. Third, mediating effect analysis showed self-objectification had partial mediation effect on the relation between covert narcissism and selfie addiction proneness and self-presentational motivation had a partial mediating effect on the relation between covert narcissism and selfie addiction proneness. It is significant for this study to define the concept of selfie addiction proneness and understand psychological variables which significantly account for it. Limitations of the study and suggestions for the future studies were discussed.

The influences of boredom proneness, public self-consciousness, and dressing style on internet shopping (지루함, 공적 자의식, 스타일 지향성이 인터넷 구매에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influences of psychological variables and fashion-related psychological variables on purchasing fashion items on the Internet. Boredom proneness and public self-consciousness were selected as psychological variables, and dressing style was selected as a fashion-related psychological variable. It was hypothesized that boredom proneness and public self-consciousness not only influence the purchasing frequency of fashion items on the Internet directly, but also indirectly through dressing style. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul using convenience sampling. Two hundred and eighty-six questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. SPSS was used for exploratory factor analysis, and AMOS was used for hypothesized relationship testing. The factor analysis of boredom proneness revealed five dimensions, "helplessness," "affective response," "lack of internal stimulation," "lack of external stimulation," and "perception of time." The factor analysis of public self-consciousness revealed two dimensions, "appearance-consciousness" and "style-consciousness," and the factor analysis of dressing style revealed one dimension. The overall fit of the hypothesized model suggests that the model fits the data well. The hypothesized relationship test proved that boredom proneness and public self-consciousness influence the purchasing frequency of fashion items on the Internet indirectly through dressing style. The results implicate effective strategies for Internet shopping malls and suggestions for future study.

The Relationship of Covert Narcissism, Sense of Alienation, and Self-Esteem with SNS Addiction Proneness in Middle School Students (중학생의 SNS중독 경향성에 있어 내현적 자기애와 소외감, 자아존중감의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of covert narcissism and the sense of alienation with SNS addiction proneness and the influence of them on SNS addiction proneness in order to find a way to conduct an intervention for the SNS addiction proneness of middle school students, and verify the mediating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between covert narcissism, the sense of alienation, and SNS addiction proneness. For this purpose, data were collected online from the first to third grade middle school students who had the experience of using SNS within the past one week, and finally, the data of a total of 341 participants were used for analysis. First, as a result of the analysis of the correlation between covert narcissism, the sense of alienation, self-esteem and SNS addiction proneness, covert narcissism and the sense of alienation showed a significant positive correlation with SNS addiction proneness. On the other hand, there was a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and SNS addiction proneness. Second, the investigation of the effects of covert narcissism, alienation, and self-esteem on SNS addiction proneness showed that covert narcissism, the sense of alienation, and self-esteem had a significant effect on the SNS addiction proneness. The higher the levels of covert narcissism and the sense of alienation, the higher the level of SNS addiction proneness. On the other hand, the higher the level of self-esteem, the lower the level of SNS addiction proneness. Third, the mediating effect of self-esteem was verified for the relationship of covert narcissism and the sense of alienation with SNS addiction proneness. Although covert narcissism and the sense of alienation may directly affect SNS addiction proneness, it was found that they had a significant effect on the SNS addiction proneness through self-esteem as a mediating variable. In other words, it was found that as the levels of the covert narcissism and the sense of alienation were increased, the level of the self-esteem was lowered, which led to a higher level of SNS addiction proneness. In order to form a proper network culture for adolescents, education on appropriate use of SNS that can be put into practice in everyday life should be conducted, and healthy and desirable SNS culture should be created. In addition, systematic education and management should be provided so that students can develop the ability to control and regulate themselves.

Factors Influencing Internet Addiction Proneness in Higher Grade Students at an Elementary School (초등학교 고학년 학생의 인터넷 중독정도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing internet addiction proneness and condition of internet use in higher grade students at an elementary school. Method: The subjects consisted of 234 sixth grade students at an elementary school in Gyeonggido. SPSS/Win18.0 was used for analysis of data. Results: Among the subjects, 51.3% had used the internet for more than three years, 89.3% used the internet in their home, and 38.5% used the internet for games. In internet addition proneness, 3.1% were potential risk users and 1.3% were high risk users. Internet addiction proneness differed significantly according to gender, period of internet use, internet access location, and purpose of internet use. Internet addiction proneness showed negative correlation with protective factors and positive correlation with risk factors. The factors affecting the internet addiction proneness were degree of internet use, peer protective factor(support from peer), personal protective factor(self-control), internet access location, and family risk factor(negative communication). These factors accounted for 32.9% of internet addiction proneness. Conclusion: Strategies are needed for improvement of the relationship with the peer group and family communication and to encourage self-control for prevention of internet addiction in elementary school students in community mental health service.
