  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Numerous school-based weight control programs have been initiated for weight loss among adolescents. However, the relationship between these programs and inappropriate weight control efforts, dietary habits and behavior of students, have not been investigated sufficiently. This study was undertaken to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) of adolescents, and their health status and inappropriate weight-control efforts. We further examined the relationship between attendance to school-based weight-control programs and attempting inappropriate weight-control efforts, dietary habits, and behavior. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A survey of 1,742 students was conducted in Korea. Logistic regression was used to assess differences in the health status (grouped by BMI and improper weight control) and dietary habits, based on attendance to the weight-control programs. RESULTS: Obese students were significantly more dissatisfied with physical, mental and spiritual health. Students who attended weight-control programs were likely to be underweight (P < 0.001), whereas those who did not attend weight-control programs were likely to attempt weight control improperly (P < 0.001). Students who participated in the program also had relatively healthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.027), and students who did not attend had comparatively unhealthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.008). Students who attended weight-control programs were likely to be underweight (P < 0.001) with relatively healthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.027), whereas students who did not attend the programs were likely to attempt weight control improperly (P < 0.001) and had comparatively unhealthy dietary habits (P < 0.001-0.008). CONCLUSIONS: Attending school-based weight-control programs was significantly associated with not attempting inappropriate weight-control efforts, as well as following healthy dietary habits. Our data indicates that offering school-based weight-control programs is valuable to student health, and is anticipated to reducing the public health burden.

  • The basic purpose of this study is to investigate how the traits of the buyer-seller transaction-relationship relate to relationship performance, including relationship performance explicitly in the proposed model. The traits examined include relational norm, formalization, market uncertainty, and relationship investment. It is hypothesized that relational norm and formalization have positive impacts on relationships performance while market uncertainty has a minus impact. In addition, it is hypothesized that relational norm has a positive moderating impact on the effect of relationship investment--the investment and efforts for maintaining a relationship to relationship performance. A mail-survey to the manufacturers of machinery and equipment about their relationships with the parts suppliers was performed. Data provided a strong support for the hypotheses. As hypothesized, relationship performance and formalization generally had positive impacts on relationship performance and formalization generally had positive impacts on relationship performance while market uncertainty showed negative impacts. Also, there is a good evidence for the positive moderating effect of relational norm to the impact of relationship investment on relationship performance.

  • Recent Studies have shown evidence of a positive relationship between market orientation and performance. However, some scholars have suggested that customer satisfaction, salespeople's job satisfaction, and product quality etc. could moderate this relationship. According to the increase of market oriented efforts of apparel firms and importance of the salespeople's role, this study focuses on the effect of market orientation on performance of apparel firms through the salespeople's job satisfaction and customer satisfaction. It is found that market orientation has a positive effect on the salespeople's job satisfaction and customer satisfaction. The salesperson's job satisfaction was found to influence on the performance through the customer satisfaction. The customer satisfaction has strong influence on the performance directly. Market orientation appears to provide a unifying focus for the efforts of salespeople within the organization, thereby leading to customer satisfaction and superior performance.

  • In today's highly competitive and fast changing business environment, key account management-a supplier company initiated relationship marketing approach targeted at the most important customers to solve their complex requirements with special treatment that eventually ensures both parties' financial and nonfinancial objectives- has regarded as a strategic weapon of many companies' sales efforts to manage their strategically important customers. On the basis of the existing studies, this research introduces a theoretical model highlighting the hypothetical relationship between key account management performance and repeat order. In addition, moderating effect of length of relationship on the relationship between key account management performance and repeat order is also introduced. We theorize the conditions under which key account management performance influences key customer repeat order behavior as well as the influence of moderating variable of length of relationship on key account management performance-repeat order relationship. Theoretical and managerial implications are provided along with suggestions to isolate a platform for future empirical research.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate if purchasing companies' efforts of supplier development activities to supplier companies have positive impacts on the purchasing companies' performance as the first step. In the second step, we tried to confirm if the concept of Supply Chain Corporate Social Responsibility activities and Coexistence activities take the roles of moderate variable on relationship between supplier development and three performances respectively. Methods: The collected data through survey were analysed using multiple regression for the first step of the study and moderate regression for the second one of it. Results: The results of this study are as follows; supplier development efforts effect on all three performances positively. Moreover, Supply Chain CSR has significant moderate effect on relationship between supplier management and corporate performances, while Coexistence does between supplier management and logistics performances. In the case of relationship between supplier management and production performances, both Supply Chain CSR and Coexistence show significant moderate effect. Conclusion: Manufacturing companies in Korea need to make effort of supplier development in selective way when they want to practice Supply Chain CSR and Coexistence concurrently considering strategies and objectives.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to gain insights into empathy, cyberbullying, and cybervictimization among Filipino adolescents. Methods: The participants were 168 junior high school students in the 7th to 10th grades at a public high school in Cavite Province, Philippines. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, the Basic Empathy Scale, and Revised Cyber Bullying Inventory-II scores. The data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive statistics (frequency and mean), the independent t-test, bivariate correlation, and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The degree of empathy did not show a statistically significant relationship with cyberbullying (r=-.07, p=.359) but did show a significant relationship with cybervictimization (r=.18, p=.025). Furthermore, cyberbullying had a statistically significant association with cybervictimization (r=.60, p<.001). Conclusion: Although empathy does not necessarily affect cyberbullying, higher levels of empathy were found among cyberbullying victims. However, an alarming result of this study is the possibility that victims may become cyberbullies. Therefore, we should highlight empathy as part of efforts to prevent cyberbullying and to solve various cyber-related problems. Since cyberbullying and cybervictimization are closely related, it is important to focus on this relationship and to make multilateral efforts to ensure that cyberbullying does not lead to other negative issues.

  • The importance of university technology transfer has widely been brought to the center of attention over the last decades. Research and practice thereby often concentrate on issues related to patenting and licensing or entrepreneurship but abstract away from relationship- and network-focused initiatives. In this paper, we argue that efforts to systematically develop close, long-term collaboration partnerships - although complex and resource intensive - are likely to be more beneficial for both universities and industry in the long run. Drawing on data derived from interviews with technology transfer executives of 22 leading European and U.S. universities, we analyze and discuss well-established practices of network and relationship management and their possible impact on technology transfer success. Our findings indicate that dedicated relationship management approaches can yield a sustainable competitive advantage for universities. We thereby shift the focus away from transaction-orientation towards more forward-looking relationship-centric approaches and discuss their institutionalization in great detail.

  • Despite a wide practice of e-market sellers communicating with their consumers, little attention is given to how the practice affects consumers' purchase decision process. Based on the text analysis of 10,479 accommodation cases obtained from Airbnb, we empirically examine the relationship between the sellers' communication efforts and the wish-listing behaviors of guests. We find that the wish-listing is positively associated with the communication efforts of a host, such as (1) the feedback volume, (2) tailored messages and personalized contents, and (3) contingent responses to guest reviews. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of the study.
