  • In this study, the following topics were investigated targeting elementary school students: Schema formed through precise notion of cognitive and the connection of the concepts when studying common divisor, common multiple, and the lowest common multiple, configuration ability and problem solving of the students when learning using a modified schema, how the schema of the student to advance to a higher level, and how the deformation of the schema is carried out student's configuration of concept and problem solving ability. As a result, it was found out that cognition about precise concept, schema and the modified schema are important factors when a primary concept was developed into a secondary concept, and play important roles when the connection and the formation of the modified schema created by cognition about the precise primary concept rather than by the formation of the secondary concept (formation of the secondary schema) created by the connection between the primary concept.

  • As Internet and network technologies have been developed, e-commerces are getting more complex and more various. This paper, for meta-data and data exchange between heterogeneous database systems, uses XML schema proposed in W3C, and XML schema can present meta-data and data of relational database system as XML document format which is structural. It supports various primitive data formats, so that it uses the structure which reflects adequately data formats which relational database system offered. However, current e-commerces use heterogeneous platforms, so difficulties that is mutual interchange and management exist. For the solution for these problems, a standard ontology which defines relations of product classifications and the standard of property expression and the location ontology which offers e-commerce's information about products are constructed. Applying these ontology information to search system, by offering information which customers need efficient search is performed. Combining these ontologies and product classification category information, called XMDR, this XMDR is introduced into product search system, so this paper proposes to construct ontology server method for efficient search.

  • A mediator-wrapper system, which is one of integration methods of heterogeneous databases, preserves a virtual integrated view rather than physical movement of the contents of each database. In order for a mediator to preserve a virtual integrated view, it requires the schema manager of the wrapper which communicates with local databases. This paper presents a schema manager of a wrapper that provides a mediator with XML schema which is generated from relational database schema. The XML schema manager supports a user-defined XML view. We present the view tree model which is used for materializing the use-defined XML view to generate XML schema, and the conversion algorithm based on the proposed view tree model. This model is can be uniformly applied to all schema managers of heterogeneous information sources.

  • As XML becomes the standard of digital data exchange format we need to manage a lot of XML data effectively. Unlike tables in relational model XML documents are not structural. That makes it difficult to store XML documents as tables in relational model. To solve these problems there have been significant researches in relational database systems. There are two kinds of approaches: 1) One way is to decompose XML documents so that elements of XML match fields of relational tables. 2) The other one stores a whole XML document as a field of relational table. In this paper we adopted the second approach to store XML documents because sometimes it is not easy for us to decompose XML documents and in some cases their element order in documents are very meaningful. We suggest an efficient table schema to store only inverted index as tables to retrieve required data from XML data fields of relational tables and shows SQL translations that correspond to XML full-text retrievals. The functionalities of XML retrieval are based on the W3C XQuery which includes full-text retrievals. In this paper we show the superiority of our method by comparing the performances in terms of a response time and a space to store inverted index. Experiments show our approach uses less space and shows faster response times.

  • There exist several versions of schema and instances created under different versions of the schema concurrently in the database in schema evolution environments. This paper proposes a mechanism for accessing instances regardless of versions in schema evolution environments in object relational databases. Access handling routines are used in accessing to the instances through the undefined attributes in the versions in which they were created. The change of semantic information of attributes is supported. Access handling routines are defined for each pair of semantics rather than defining backdate/update functions for each pair of versions of a class. A query language that accommodates version and semantic information is defined through the extension of the primitive SQL format.

  • Since XML (eXtensible Markup Language) was highlighted as an information interchange format, there is an increasing demand for incorporating XML with databases. Most of the approaches are focused on RDB (Relational Databases) because of legacy systems. But these approaches depend on the database system. Countless researches are being focused on DTD (Document Type Definition). However XML Schema is more comprehensive and efficient in many perspectives. We propose a meta-model for XML Schema that is independent of the database. There are three processes to build our meta-model: DOM (Document Object Model) tree analysis, object modeling and storing object into a fixed DB schema using model mapping approach. We propose four mapping rules for object modeling, which conform to the ODMG (Object Data Management Group) 3.0 standard. We expect that the model will be especially useful in building XML-based e-business applications.

  • The current applications can be characterized as consisting of complex objects related by complex relationship. Therefore the relational database has been extended to object-relational database because of the complex objects. Accordingly, we need database design methodology for object-relational database. In this pager, we develop an integrated design methodology based on a extended UML class diagram for object-relational database. We make the extend UML class diagram by adding new stereotypes for object-relational database. Also we propose a guideline for transforming the extended UML class diagram to object-relational database schema. We use SQL:1999 as a object-relational data model and Oracle11g as a target object-relational database. We can build more easily and efficiently object-relational database for Oracle11g by using our methodology. Finally we applied our methodology on a computer classroom reservation system for evaluation the methodology.

  • There have been several research efforts to support interoperability among multiple databases. In integrating multiple databases, we must resolve schema conflicts due to the heterogeneity in databases. To resolve these conflicts, not only meta-data for database schemas but also general knowledge expressing the real world meanings associated with the database schemas are required. This paper presents a uniform representation method for relational schema and general knowledge base that is composed, among other things, of concept hierarchy and thematic roles in relationship, using the knowledge representation language Lk. This representation method has a flexible descriptive power which facilitates concepts to be expressed at different levels of granularity and can describe knowledge expressed in Lk are used for input of the next step, such as conflict resolution and query processing of multiple database.

  • Object-Oriented method is a rather difficult one, theories are different as many as they are, and can hardly be found well-applied examples of OOD. So, this paper deal with the history, the needs, the benefits, basic concept of object-oriented design methods, especially the designing procedure which covers from analyzing the requirements, designing the EER(extended entity relationship) model, transforming this model into relational schema, to OODB schema step. Major contributions can be identified; First, the proposed method will ensure that it improve the productivity, increase the software quality, and elevate the maintainability. Second, it provide the framework of how object-oriented schema is constructed for OODB design. Third, suggested realistic case study will enhance the better understanding of how the current business process will be applied to the OODB design step.

  • In this paper, we suggest an XML Development Support(XDS) System as a good developing tool to solve the problems that related with the database integration, increased to the developing terms and costs when the developing of XML programming base on the web server. XDS System is designed for the purpose of easily coding the XML program, of simply changing the programming structure and of completely maintaining the program environment. According to the predefined policy, XDS System provides necessary informations such as tables, columns, or relational keys from Database for developer. The developer step by step selects or sets what he needs. And XDS System creates an XML Tree with the result of selected information. The XML Tree includes all information of making an XML Schema and some XML Stylesheet. XDS System creates an XML Schema for all clients and creates many XML Stylesheets for each client using the XML Tree.
