  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyse eating patterns and physical activities according to obesity of female middle school students in Korea. Methods: The 2010 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey (KYRBS) data was used for analysis. The subjects of this study were 11,996 female middle school students (10,118 normal weight and 1,778 overweight). The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, independent t-test, and ${\chi}^2$-test. Results: The findings of this study Indicated that 52.1% of the normal weight group did efforts to lose weight, whereas 60.1% of the overweight groups did. The most common way of reducing body weight was 'reducing food intake', followed by 'regular exercise', 'taking diet supplements' and 'fasting'. Among the entire groups of respondents, 54.6% did not receive dietary education at school over the past year. In addition, 18.8% in normal weight group and 17.0% in overweight group had never receive physical education at school over the past year. Conclusion: The health provider should enhance the school based dietary education and physical education programs for the promotion of adolescents' health status and healthy behaviors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of cardiovascular risk factors of type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: Diabetic patients (N=160) were interviewed from November, 2003 to June, 2004. The 24 hour dietary recall, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale for patient with Type 2 diabetes, the Revised Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Measure Scale and Parma Cardiovascular Risk Index were used to measure the predictors. Data were analyzed by descriptive analyses, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS WIN 10.0. Results: Mean dietary intakes of the participants were protein(P) of 64.5g, carbohydrate(C) of 280.74g, fat(F) of 30g, and calcium of 511.45mg. The ratio of CPF was 75:17:8. About 45% of the participants didn't exercise on a regular basis. The levels of self-efficacy, self-care, and cardiovascular risk factors of the participants were moderate. Self-efficacy was the most important predictor of cardiovascular risk factors along with self-care, exercising for more than 6 months, carbohydrate intakes and levels of physical activities. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that intervention programs increasing self-efficacy on diabetic management would be more beneficial than the fractional approach focusing only on diet or physical activities.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to find out risk factors related to elderly hip fracture, so that the result could provide basic data to establish prevention programs for hip fracture among the elderly. Methods: The data were collected from 199 cases hospitalized in 4 university hospitals in Pusan from January, 1996 to December, 1998, 193 healthy controls who visited elderly facilities in Pusan. The data were obtained from medical records and by using questionnaires through telephone contact or direct personal interview with the subjects or their family, and were analyzed for 2-test and multiple logistic regression. The risk factors were shown with odds ratios and their 95% confidence intervals. Results: In univariate analysis, the odds ratio of hip fracture risk was estimated to be 1.9 for the elderly aged 75 years as compare with those aging less than 65 years; 42 for those with job as compared with those without job; 3.3 for those with more than 6 children as compared with those with one or two children. For the variables related to physical characteristics, small height (p=0.015), light weight (p=0.000), and low BMI (p=0.014) were risk factors for elderly hip fracture. Sane variables related to health, such as previous history of illness (OR=3.3.), abnormal blood pressure (OR=1.6), previous fracture history (OR=22), lower limbs weakness (OR=12.1) and gait disturbance (OR=42.6), were significantly associated with the risk of hip fracture. In multiple logistic regression, risk factors for hip fracture were age, having job, lower limb weakness and previous history of illness. The adjusted odds ratios of hip fracture risk among the elderly were age (OR=1.1), having jobs (OR=11.7), weak lower limb (OR=10.8) and previous history of illnesses (OR=3.3), respectively. Conclusion: This study suggests that the plan for improving the daily living environment for the elderly systematically should be implemented to avoid the chances of fall, and that programs encouraging to practice regular exercise for physical activity and to promote health of the elderly should be developed.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate association of depressive symptom, fatalism with selected health behaviors among people aged 50-69 with no physical limitation in Seoul. Methods: In 2012, data were collected using a household based interview survey in Seoul. One person in each selected household aged between 50 and 69 was selected and responded. Data analysis was based on 1,190 subjects who answered they do not have any physical activity limitation. Results: Multiple logistic regression analysis showed significant association among variables including perceived health, depressive symptom and fatalism scores on some health behaviors. Multiple regression analysis showed that selected health risk behaviors(current smoking, monthly alcohol consumption, no regular health exam in two years) were significantly associated with depressive symptom and fatality scores in addition to demographic variables. The final regression model's adjusted R square was about 0.235. Conclusion: Demographic variables such as gender, age and socioeconomic status were significant variables in health behaviors and these behavioral factors were associated with perceived health, depressive symptom and fatalistic views. As a conclusion, depressive symptom and fatalism should be monitored and intervened in health education practice.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the change in the obesity index in girls receiving a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa), based on treatment duration, and to aid in nutritional counseling by investigating dietary habits and lifestyle. Methods: Anthropometric examinations were conducted on 62 girls treated with GnRHa from January 2010 through July 2014. Parents were asked to fill out questionnaires on patient dietary habits and lifestyle. Results: The group taking GnRHa for over 1 year had a higher rate of obesity increase than the group taking GnRHa for less than 1 year, but they had common habits related to obesity, which should be corrected. In addition, 69.2% of the normal weight group taking GnRHa for over 1 year gained weight, and needed more intensive programs, which include physical exercise and nutritional education. Although girls with precocious puberty showed a decrease in the intake of high-calorie foods with nutritional intervention regardless of treatment duration, they still had problems that needed improvement, such as shorter meals and lack of exercise. Conclusion: Girls with precocious puberty and their parents should emphasize maintenance of proper body weight, especially when treatment for over 1 year is anticipated. Consistent education in nutrition, ways to increase intensity and duration of physical activity, and the need to slow down mealtimes are important in managing obesity; doctors need to perform regular checkups and provide nutritional counseling.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective software education donation model for the social care class. The types of software education for elementary, middle, and high school for the social care class are in the order of after school classes, club activities, creative experiences, and regular classes. In elementary school students, it is effective to precede visual programming education based on block coding and to conduct curriculum convergence with SW and HW at the beginning, and high school students are carrying out text programming education like Python. Software education for social care class The contribution activity model can be classified into five types such as geographically difficult area, multicultural family areas, orphanage, reformatory, and basic livelihood security recipient. In addition, the survey results show that the students' interest in software education and their satisfaction are all very high at 96%. Effective software education for the social care class In the donation model, the lecturers consist of responsible professors, lecturers, and assistant instructors. Software training for the social care class is effective on a year-by-year basis, so that students can feel authenticity and trust. Software education contents focus on visual programming and physical computing education in elementary or middle school, and text programming and physical computing education in high school. It is necessary to construct a software education donor matching system that helps efficient management of software education donations by efficiently matching schools (consumers: elementary, middle, high school) and software education donors(suppliers).

  • We introduced the physiological responses of aging, active aging and also suggest the impact of physical exercise on body health status and elderly immunity. In this purpose, we searched the Pub Med data base for the articles (include our experimental papers) and review papers having the terms 'Aging', 'Active aging' and 'Physical activity and elderly' in the title, published from 1999 until 2018. The results were as follows: Exercise training has been extensively studied about the reduction of inflammation, oxidative stress, disease, and aging in syndrome X patients and elderly. Combined and aerobic or resistance exercise training could reduce obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Exercise training has been extensively studied in cancer settings as part of prevention or treatment strategies. From this research, regular exercise has the potential to target tumor growth through regulation of inflammation and immune responses such as lactate clearance, NK cell activation (innate immunity), activation of cytotoxic immune cells, T cell activation (adaptive immunity), and immune surveillance. However, Endurance physical activity not only induces thermogenesis and diverse sports injuries but also elicits mobilization and functional enhancement of monocytes, neutrophils (which is caused by the cytokine changes such as TNF-alpha, IL-1) whereas it suppresses cell mediated immunity causing to increased susceptibility to inflammation and infections like cough and URTIs (upper respiratory track infections) in young and especially in elderly people. Therefore, Strategies to prevent physical fatigue, sports injuries include avoid overtraining, Adequate recovery and various type of rest during and after physical activity and assuring adequate nutrition supplementation such as glutamine, vitamin B, vitamin C, carbohydrate, ion or berry-contain sports beverages is helpful in physically active elderly.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the association between regular exercise habit, self-rated health status, health practice index, and health promotion lifestyle profile among 241 college male students from Gyeonggi-do. Subjects were divided into two groups: students majoring in physical education(PE) and students who are not majoring in PE. The average BMI were $22.77{\pm}2.74$ among PE majors and $21.57{\pm}4.30$ among the other group. PE majors showed higher results in all of physiological, subjective and social health conditions. Both groups showed low scores in health practice index, which were $2.86{\pm}1.10$ among PE majors and $2.97{\pm}1.46$ among non-PE majors, showing no difference in statistical significance. Index for health promoting lifestyle practices were somewhat higher among PE majors; however, there were no statistical significance with the results of $123.38{\pm}19.93$ among PE majors and $119.98{\pm}22.04$ among non-PE majors. The analysis on the index for health promoting lifestyle practices in sub-categories showed that PE majors showed significantly higher scores compared with non-PE majors in physical activities area and vice versa in nutrition area.
