  • A new possibility for helping regional residents to establish the identity based on the history, culture and environment of the region and harmonizing art and culture in daily life can be seen from eco-museum. Unique cultural inheritances for each region exist not only in our nation but everywhere around the world, and Cheonan region is continuously attracting tourists from other regions as a home of the Independence Hall, Yu Gwan Sun Memorial, and live branches of independent activists with important inheritances such as tourist attractions and national treasures. However, despite unique environment of the region and inheritances with high academic values, lack of basic guides and explanations place the region in an environment that is difficult to approach. The purpose of this study is to systematically investigate regional inheritances based on the concept of eco-museum as an alternative for such problem recognition and to examine problems of inheritances scarred around Cheonan region based on their current status. The author of this study aims to analyze the investigated regional inheritances, rearrange their values and suggest possibilities for continued preservation and utilization.

  • The residence plan of Korea has been formed with bias for quantitative growth and uniformity failing at obtaining human value. Also, rapid growth brought about severe problems of deteriorated human life and destruction of environment. The solution for these problems is pursued in many directions, but there is short of active plan yet. The residence shall develop into new direction to satisfy the demand by reflecting society and culture as well as residents. This study examines external design with symbolic representation of regional feature as an alternative for uniform residence environment problem. This study will be a basic data upon suggesting the direction for planning high quality residence environment. This study examined the elements which form external space of residence complex, designed plan for external space of residence complex, and examined how to reflect regional feature which is important element of local community and culture on the space plan for residence complex based on the evaluation by local residents centered on Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk which just started local specialty by fostering. • With the purpose of long-range planning toward local/regional sustainable development, it is desired to avoid unconditional industrialization and expansion and to build an eco-oriented development strategy considering site-specific characteristics of the environment. This paper thus aims at the elaboration of a system dynamics model of a locality/region so as to understand inherent dynamics of sustainable development and to assess the effectiveness of such an eco-oriented strategy. The model thus consists of several positive and negative feedback loops that accelerate or restrict local/regional economic growth within a system boundary incorporating the environment, economy, and society. The model is moreover applied to the assessment of the effectiveness of the development plan recently established in Damyang in JeollaNamdo, Korea. It is regarded in this case to be effective for population immigration and economic prosperity to give priority to restore the bamboo ecosystem and nourish a series of eco-friendly industries based on the bamboo items developed recently. It is also to be positive to sustainable development since it enables to maintain high quality of the environment from the outset of their development steps.

  • The purpose of this research is to apply the regional development attractiveness of the national level determined in the previous study to the city and county level of Chungcheongnam-do. We verified results with the population change of the floating population data. In order to measure regional development attractiveness in 2020, Chungcheongnam-do's integrated air environment index and per capita gross regional product were gathered. Population movement data over the past five years have been used to analyze population changes in the floating population data. Regional development attractiveness depended on the data of GDP per capita, which had a large difference between the maximum and minimum values. The rate of increase or decrease in population change by city and county in Chungcheongnam-do over the past five years has changed significantly since 2021 and characteristics of each group were grouped into four groups. Based on the environment and economic feasibility of the region, it can be the starting point for a new analysis of Korea's regional development projects and the selection of target sites. Policy suggestions can also be made in spatial plans such as short-term comprehensive plans, long-term comprehensive plans, and development plans. It can be a limit of this research that regional development attractiveness was determined by the relatively large per capita gross domestic product. It is necessary to further develop regional development attractiveness by closely investigating the characteristics of the region, social problems, and emissions of environmentally harmful substances.

  • The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE)-based modeling systems have been widely used to simulate soil erosion studies. However the GIS-based USLE modeling systems have limitation in gully erosion evaluation which is one of the most important factor in soil erosion estimation. In this study, the integrated soil erosion evaluation system using with Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) system, nLS and Unit Stream Power-based Erosion/Deposition (USPED) model was developed to simulate gully erosion. Gully head location using nLS model, USPED for gully erosion, and the SATEEC estimated sheet and rill erosion were evaluated and combined together with the integrated soil erosion evaluation system. This system was applied to the Haean-myeon watershed, annual average sediment-yield considering sheet, rill and gully erosion was simulated as 101,933 ton/year at the study watershed. if the integrated soil erosion evaluation system is calibrated and validated with the measured data, this system could be efficiently used in developing site-specific soil erosion best management system to reduce soil erosion and muddy water inflow into the receiving waterbody.

  • It is, as everyone knows, very important for human beings to protect and conserve marine environment. We has believed the ocean is so wide and deep that it cannot be polluted. But it has begun to doubt the capacity of self-purification of the ocean due to pollution arising from marine casualities. It has proved that semi-enclosed sea is likely to be polluted and cannot be restored easily once pollution occurs. Therefore, first of all it is important to take preventive measures for prevention of marine pollution in the semi-enclosed sea like the Yellow Sea. Many of regional conventions for prevention of marine pollution have come into existence. this dissertation was set out for the fact that the Yellow Sea is semi-enclosed sea which is vulnerable to marine pollution. It is desirable not to deal with marine preservation of the Yellow Sea by a single exclusively but to deal with it by cooperation of all coastal states under the present circumstances. I proposed a program of regional cooperation to protect and conserve the Yellow Sea. This program must be progressed with gradual arrangements. First, they must establist a basic cooperation committee to work basic affairs on the protection of marine environment within the Yellow Sea. The Committee Mainly play parts of study and research concerned with pollution of the Yellow Sea in the non-governmental side and consist of legal and scientific experts. Second, they must establish the control Committee to prevent marine pollution of the Yellow Sea substantially. There is a reason that regional cooperation cannot be directly concluded with the regional tready. Because there is a problem of Recognition of States left. In principle, a subject of tready must be a state in the International Law. But they have not made Recognition of State which is demanded by International Law between North and South Koreas. Therefore, the Control committee must play a substantial part of prevention from pollution instead of the treaty. Finally, we concluded tentatively named $\ulcorner$Convention on Regional Cooperation for Protection of Marine Environment of the Yellow Sea from Pollution$\lrcorner$ if the matter is settled which is related to Recognition of States in the International Law.

  • For the prediction of hydrologic phenomenon, predicting future land use change is a very important task. This study aimed to compare and analyze the two land use change models, CLUE-S and SLEUTH3-R. The analysis of two models were performed based on the MSR value such that the model with more reliable MSR value can be recommended as an appropriate land use change prediction model. The model performance was examined by applying to the Gapcheon A watershed. Land use map of the study area of 2007 obtained from the Ministry of Environment was compared with the predicted land use map obtained from each of the two models. The result from both models showed somewhat similar results. The MSR value obtained from CLUE-S was 0.564, while that from SLEUTH3-R was 0.586. However, when land use map of 2010 was compared with predicted land use map obtained from the two models in same manner, the MSR value obtained from CLUE-S' was 0.500 while that from SLEUTH3-R was decreased to 0.397, an approximately 32.3% decrease from previous value of 2007. Moreover, SLEUTH3-R showed more sensitivity in conversion of urban areas, as compared to other land use types. Therefore, for the prediction of future land use change, CLUE-S model is more reliable than SLEUTH3-R.

  • The existing standard for soil erosion risk assessment has limitations in sustainable topsoil management since the fixed criteria are applied to determination of soil erosion risk areas regardless of land use types. It may not be necessary to apply soil erosion best management practices to agricultural areas with high potential of soil erosion because human or economic damage derived from soil erosion might be tiny in that region. Furthermore, the fixed criterion with absolute values can select too many hot spots of soil erosion to conduct efficient soil erosion management. Thus, objective of this study was to suggest the relative criteria using statistical analysis for efficient soil erosion management. In future, the relative indices for soil erosion prevention should be improved to provide a priority of soil erosion management considering economic damage from soil erosion or functional values of soil with quantitative soil erosion. Additional researches will be needed to reflect a regional characteristics and to consider various land use types and different criteria.
