  • The study deals with classification of drought-flood intensity using Z index based on the precipitation data in Hyesan of the past 50 years(1957~2006). The frequencies of years and four seasons of flood drought and their change features have also been analyzed based on tendency analysis and MESA and wavelet methods. Results show that the annual and seasonal frequencies of flood-drought exceed 24% in Hyesan and flood-drought disasters have been high frequency. Inter-decadal variability seems to be clear in autumn but those of inter-annual variability are obvious in other three seasons and years. Recently the probability of drought disaster become higher in autumn. The flood disaster in other three seasons and years are estimated to become higher in the future.

  • This paper synthetically analyzes micrometeorological data and geomorphological features of Doeksan-ri Eoreumgol(ice valley) Yeongdeok-gun in order to investigate occurrence characteristics of the ice valley and a mechanism for freezing in summer. This ice valley is located in the distal end of a talus and intensity of cooling and freezing in summer seems to be related to morphology and dimensions of talus. Cooling in the ice valley is generated by cold air flows that move down to the bottom of talus from high mountains through pores and voids, then debris in talus is supercooled by the cold air. For it forms a stable state in and around voids cold air is stagnating in the lower end of talus. This causes freezing in summer at outpour points. Furthermore humidity condition of external air and vaporization heat is a key factor when freezing.

  • NSS (Navigation satellite system) provides the information for determining the position, velocity and time of users in real time using satellite-networking, and is classified into GNSS (Global NSS) and RNSS (Regional NSS). Although GNSS services for global users, the exactitude of provided information is dissatisfied with the degree required in modern systems such as unmanned system, autonomous navigation system for aircraft, ship and others, air-traffic control system. Especially, due to concern about the monopoly status of the countries operating it, some other countries have already considered establishing RNSS. The RNSS services for users within a specific area, however, it not only gives more precise information than those from GNSS, but also can be operated independently from the NSS of other countries. Thus, for Korean RNSS, this paper suggests the methodology to design the satellite constellation considering the regional features of Korean Peninsula. It intends to determine the orbits and the arrangement of navigation satellites for minimizing PDOP (Position dilution of precision). PGA (Parallel Genetic Algorithm) geared to solve this nonlinear optimization problem is proposed and STK (System tool kit) software is used for simulating their space flight. The PGA is composed of several GAs and iterates the process that they search the solution for a problem during the pre-specified generations, and then mutually exchange the superior solutions investigated by each GA. Numerical experiments were performed with increasing from four to seven satellites for Korean RNSS. When the RNSS was established by seven satellites, the time ratio that PDOP was measured to less than 5 (i.e. better than 'Good' level on the meaning of the PDOP value) was found to 94.3% and PDOP was always kept at 10 or less (i.e. better than 'Moderate' level).

  • Objectives: This study shows the issues that should be considered when applying standardized rates using Community Health Survey(CHS) data. Methods: We analyzed 2008 CHS data. In order to obtain the reliability of standardized rates, we calculated z-score and rank correlation coefficients between direct standardized rate and indirect standardized rate for 31 major indices. Especially, we assessed the change of correlations according to population composition (age and sex), and characteristics of the index. We used Mantel-Haenszel chi-square to quantify the difference of population composition. Results: Among 31 major indices, 29 indices' z-score and rank correlation coefficients were over 0.9. However, regions with larger differences in population composition showed lower reliability. Low reliability was also observed for the indices specific to subgroups with small denominator such as 'permanent lesion from stroke', and the index with large regional variations in age-related differences such as 'obtaining health examinations'. Conclusions: Standardized rates may have low reliability, if comparison is made between areas with extremely large differences in population composition, or for indicies with large regional variations in age-related differences. Therefore, the special features of standardized rates should be considered when health state are compared among areas.

  • To understand the fundamental features of reservoir environment and its future aspects, a simple predictive model for water quality was attempted with the aid of data easily obtained, Based on the data from 12 reservoirs in Korea, application of the simple predictive model was successfully made by means of statistical methods and simple physical submodels. Significant information on th effects of retention time on primary production in a reservoir, longitudinal change in water quality affected by certain non-dimensional parameters were also obtained. The chlorophyll-a concentration can be predicted by the equation as ; chlorophyll-a=($395{\time}limiting$ nutrient concentration) - 1.090.

The purpose of this paper is to study on eco-friendly business buildings in the trend of mandatory green building certification system. The analysis of this paper is comparative studies on practices at eleven domestic eco-friendly business buildings through site survey on design framework of green buildings. The design framework of eleven this buildings is six kinds of skills on technical, renewable, ecological, cultural, healthy, social. The eleven this buildings in the new & renewable energy and IT technology of technical sector are satisfied with the framework. But, domestic most advanced eco-friendly business buildings are placed difference between almost the two times on the lower buildings at comparative evaluation. The three of this buildings are gratified rainwater harvesting and waste recycling systems for renewable and recycle. The buildings have an excellent aspects of technology and ecology. The benefits of this buildings are related with future compulsory zero energy house to take technical advantage of renewable energy. However, the buildings reflecting the regional culture types is insufficient. The buildings should be supplemented as follows. This buildings are need to have the social enhancement programs and design for convenient space of community residents, through health and comfort of on workplace. Moreover, this buildings have features of coexisting with human beings and nature friendly with the aim of realizing the sustainable development. The social enhancement programs through regional cultural aspects with ecology are related with individual and community livings in harmony, non-hierarchical communal lifes. The development of the cultural aspects provide for consensus about the local community and creating sustainable communities. Thus, The buildings are to have energy saving, pleasant and healthy living environment and interactive individual and community livings in harmony.

  • Coal briquette manufacturers once served as major fuel suppliers for households. For the coal briquette industry, transportation accounts for a considerable portion of the total manufacturing cost as briquettes are heavy in weight but low in value-addition. Moreover, they were put under strict control by the government for the characteristics of the briquettes as public goods. This study intends to identify the factors of and the types of the location of coal briquette manufacturing industry. In particular, the focus of the study is the briquette manufacturers in Seoul. Moreover, this study aims to identify how government policy influenced the location of the industry. The coal briquette manufacturing industry in the example regions were oriented toward the market and trans-shipment points. Simultaneously, the industry underwent spatial changes due to the spatial policy. While derived spatial policies were significant factors for growth of coal briquette industry, explicit spatial policies only modified or facilitated some of the location features resulting from the characteristics of the industry.

  • This study attempts to analyze the structure of collaborative network among multicultural agencies in Busan area. The survey was conducted with such agencies as multicultural family support centers, regional government offices, public libraries, social welfare centers, and other NGO-supported agencies, in order to analyze the structural features of the network. The results of the study indicate that cooperative networks are hardly in action except for the one among agencies which share their function, roles, and characteristics in common, that regional government offices and multicultural family support centers have high density networks with other agencies and performed major roles. Public libraries, however, only collaborate with other libraries, or did not participated in the networks, which indicates that endeavors of public libraries to cooperate with other multicultural agencies is needed.
