  • The juice carrier is the first ship built in korea. Special refrigerator system and cargo hold insulation with stainless steel tank were equipped on cargo hold. We studied optimum design of cargo hold insulation for reducing of ship building schedule and cost including good quality with refrigerating efficiency. From this study, general and newly specified juice carrier, technical method of cargo hold insulation system, air flow with division air wall, K-value calculation have been investigated.

  • In this paper, temperature distributions in radial fin of hyperbolic profile for steady -state with no heat generation are obtained by one-dimensional analytical method, finite difference method and experiment respectively. Heat flow rate and fin efficiency from the fin model are obtained by analytical method. To compare the exact solutions obtained by theoretical analysis with the results obtained by finite difference method, cylindrical shape is selected. Particularly, equations of finite difference method for cylindrical shape with irregular boundary are rearranged and formulated. Consequently, temperature distributions in radial fin can certify that are similar to exact solutions. From theoretical analysis, the effects according to heat flow rate and fin efficiency are related to variation of parameters which are fin thickness ${\delta}_o$, fin base temperature $T_o$, thermal conductivity K with same basic dimensions and the fleets are studied and compared.

Numerical Analysis in Heat Transfer of a Triangular Fin (삼각휜 열전달의 수치해석)

  • One-dimensional approximation for fin problems is widely used in current texts and industrial practice. The errors caused by this approximation is analysed for a longitudinal triangular fin by the numerical solution of two-dimensional fin equation. Two-dimensional solution is obtained by the finite element method and com pared with the one-dimensional esact solution. The results show that total heat transfer and fin efficiency are overestimated by the one-dimensional approximation. The factors which cause these errors are the Biot number (Bi) and the ratio of fin length to half the thickness (L/a). When Bi is smaller than 1.0 these errors are smaller than $10\%$, but when Bi is larger than 5.0 they are a few ten percents. Fin efficiency obtaned by one-dimensional and long fin assumption is valid only then Bi is small and L/a is large.

  • Parametric study on the efficiency of Rotary Solid Dehumidifer are reported. Experi-ments have been performed by varying regeneration temperature, regeneration humidity, flow rate of regeneration air, angular velocity of dehumidifer rotor and regeneration angle. To improve the energy efficiency, MODE 2,3 where coding zone is constructed and MODE 4, 5 where recirculating zone is constructed, were studied through experimental method $\ldots$. These results show that economical operating ranges exist in regeneration temperature, flow rate of regeneration air, angular velocity of dehumidifier rotor and regeneration angle. MODE 2,3 where cooling zone is constructed between regeneration Bone and process zone, is far better than MODE 1 in view of energy effiency, and optimum cooling angle and flow rate of cooling air exist. But MODE 4 and MODE 5, where recirculating zone is constructed, are similar to MODE 1.

  • This study was concerned with the performance of solar air heater using parallel channels. Heat transmission model was developed and fabricated to increase the economic feasibility for solar heating system by using the cheap zinc plate. The prformance was discussed as a function of mass flow rate, and plate, inlet and outlet temperatures. Experimental results show that heat transmission model is sufficient for the analysis of thermal characteristics of air heater and collection efficiency is better than the domestic water heater, as the range 32-49 percent. Collection efficiency in the 2 layers of glass cover is better than that in 1 layer, so it is considered better to use the 2 layers of glass cover during the cold winter season in Korea.

  • An experimental study on the storage tank which uses sensible heat of water is done. The influence of inlet flow rate (Re), the difference between initial temperature and inlet water temperature(Gr) and the location of inlet and outlet on the performance of storage tank is studied. Development of stratification is examined by measuring the transient temperatures of 36 points inside the tank. Measured values are transformed to the dimensionless parameters in order to calculate the temperature efficiency of storage tank. In the presence of combined natural and forced convection, the development of stratification becomes clearer and thus the efficiency becomes higher, as $Gr/Re^2$ increases.

  • Fin effectiveness and efficiency of a thermally asymmetric rectangular fin are represented as a function of non-dimensional fin length, width, fip tip surface Biot number and the ratio of fin bottom surface Biot number to top surface Biot number. For this analysis, three dimensional separation of variables method is used. One of the results shows that fin effectiveness can be increased or decreased depending on the fin length as the fin tip surface Biot number increases while fin efficiency decreases without depending on that as the fin tip surface Biot number increases.

  • We have analyzed a combined cycle employing refrigerant Rankine cycle and simple refrigeration cycle with one working fluid. Although this cycle shows promising aspects such as simplicity, it does not have a good efficiency to compete with the other existing technologies because of high temperature at the exit of the turbine. However, by introducing a recuperator, it is found that the cycle efficiency can be improved up to the level much higher than other technology's efficiency.

  • This study aims to suggest envelope structure which can improve the insulation performance of cold storage warehouse with cost effectiveness. Envelope structures are classified and economical efficiency of each type is evaluated to the model warehouse. As results, type 3 (PC wall) and 4(sandwich panel wall) have benefits to the middle/large (lifetime of 25 years) and small (lifetime of 12∼13 years) warehouse, respectively.
