A transparent poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) optical micro-pyramid array-pattern is designed and fabricated using an injection modeling technique. The device's optical characteristics are tested and analyzed theoretically. In the optical pattern generated using the fabricated PMMA pattern, the components, due to not only refraction but also diffraction, are observed simultaneously. Wave optic modeling and analysis reveals that the energy ratio between the diffraction and refraction in the optical pattern are dependent on the critical dimension of the optical pattern such that the refraction and diffraction tend to be directly and inversely proportional to the pattern dimension, respectively.

Based on second-order Stokes wave and parabolic approximation, a refraction-diffraction model for linear and nonlinear waves is developed. With the assumption that the water depth is slowly varying, the model equation describes the forward scattered wavefield. The parabolic approximation equations account for the combined effects of refraction and diffraction, while the influences of bottom friction, current and wind have been neglected. The model is tested against laboratory experiments for the case of submerged circular shoal, when both refraction and diffraction are equally significant. Based on Boussinesq equations, the parabolic approximation eq. is applied to the propagation of shallow water waves. In the case without currents, the forward diffraction of Cnoidal waves by a straight breakwater is studied numerically. The formation of stem waves along the breakwater and the relation between the stem waves and the incident wave characteristics are discussed. Numerical experiments are carried out using different bottom slopes and different angles of incidence.

A new experimental approach is proposed to detect a specific polymer dissolved in a liquid. Distinctive optical properties were found using a laser scattering technique when there is a polymer compound with almost no difference in optical properties (index of refraction) in a liquid phase. The index of refraction, which determines the refraction of light, is obtained by dissolving PCL and PLA. The used samples are biodegradable materials with similar properties and dissolved in a mixture of Chloroform 7: Methanol 3. To predict the optical properties, a 632-nm diode laser was used as the light source of the device, and an integrating sphere was used as the light receiver. Although PCL and PLA had a similar index of refraction of 1.46-1.48, the dissolved PCL showed a relative transmittance of 43%, and the dissolved PLA had a relative transmittance of 34%. The difference in optical properties of the pure polymer compound in the solid state or liquid state is not significantly different, and the difference in the dissolved state in the specific solvent is remarkable because the solubility differs in a specific solution and is randomly distributed.

Purpose. This study was to investigate the degree of refractive error that occurs depending on the measurement location of the subject when performing a refraction test using the automatic refractor. Methods. When performing the auto-refraction test, measurements were taken while increasing the distance between the forehead and the forehead rest, and the measurements were made by tilting the head clockwise and counterclockwise. Results. During the auto-refraction test, significant refractive error occurred when the forehead was not attached to the forehead support or the subject's head was turned clockwise or counterclockwise. Conclusions. When performing a refraction test using an automatic refractor, the examiner will have to pay attention to whether the subject's forehead is in close contact with the forehead rest, and whether the head is tilted.
Purpose: This study is to predict refractive errors according to uncorrected visual acuity using uncorrected visual acuity of the first glasses wearers. Methods: For 886 children who visited an ophthalmic clinic, subjective refraction was carried out with maintain refraction (MR) and cycloplegic refraction (CR), and objective refraction was carried out using auto-refractometer. Uncorrected visual acuity and corrected visual acuity were tested using on a trial lens and a Han's visual acuity chart. Results: In correlation between with the uncorrected visual acuity and refractive the myopia was the highest (r=0.774) and followed by hyperopia (r=0.670), simple astigmatism (r=0.623), simple with-the-rule astigmatism (r=0.604)and simple against-the-rule astigmatism (r=0.508). Conclusions: There were differences in the predictions between uncorrected visual acuity and refractive error according to the types of refractive error and astigmatism.

This paper aimes to study a refraction errors developed in the inclined leveling route. Based on Kukkamaki's theory and morden meteorology, the author devised an experiment to test how Kukkamaki's corrections was improved the discrepancy between fore and back leveling in actual slope. Additionally, through the repeated observation between fore and back leveling at one fixed station in the slope and experimental test of continuous inclined leveling route, the author studied the effects of refraction and its characteristics. We carried out leveling and temperature measurements in the continuous inclined leveling route of about 1.5km, and consequently, Kukkamaki's refraction correction values using these respective C=-0.1 and -1/3 values could improve the similar discrepancy.

The tracking performance of a big parabola tracking antenna system for tracking and receiving of the signal from the vehicle is impacted by many factors of the internal and the external of the system. In this paper, we analyze the tracking error due to the radio refraction in the application of the tracking and positioning of the vehicle by using radio frequency. The real measurement data are used for the analysis which had been acquired by using GPS and the tracking systems of C- and S-band frequencies in NARO Space centre. To verify the correlation between the tracking errors measured and the radio refraction, we review the error factors and the accuracies of the tracking systems, and the characteristics of the refractivity. The analysis shows that there are angular errors which are due to the radio refraction and not to be neglected, compared to the accuracies of the tracking systems, in case of low elevation angle less than 10 degrees. Also, the tracking errors depend on the target altitude as well as the elevation angle for the case of the target in the troposphere. It is recommended to correct the tracking angle considering the target altitude and elevation angle for the precise target positioning.
We construct a four-level system where a metastable state is included in an $Er^{3+}$ Doped Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) crystal. Because of the action of the coherent field, the traditional light amplification with inversion can be exhibited with remarkable variation. As a result, we propose a method to achieve the gain equalization by atomic coherence. At the same time, we find that the high index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption can also be reached in this model. We also find that a higher index of refraction with zero absorption can be easily obtained when the coherent field is off resonance.

A aspheric lens is one a key point optical element in the optical industry. The feature of a aspheric lens is not to have the spherical aberration. A aspheric lens is also essential element for high-precision and light-weight in the optical machine. Generally it have been used in a tailor progression an aspheric lens modelling much. In this study we applied a lay back-tracer using a index of refraction to draw a creative aspheric lens. And we executed a comparison experiment for refraction situation of shape and straightness experiment to inspect the drawn aspheric lens in this study
This study can provide the accurate information on the treatment of visual acuity of a old ages by test of eye refraction state. The test was performed the visual acuity test by the object methods, and subjects was the over 45 old age. The eye types were 12% positive for emmetropia, 19% for myopia. and 69% for hyperopia, respectively. The abnormal refraction eyes were 3% positive for simple myopic astigmatism, 16% for myopic astigmatism, 14% for simple hyperopia, 5% for simple hyperopic astigmatism, 62% for mixed astigmatism, respectively. The axis of astigmatisms were 72% positive for against-the-rule astigmatism, 21% for with-the-rule astigmatism, 7% for ablique astigmatism, respectively.
