When the extracorporeal shock wave lithotriptor is operated, sounds can be heard. Then that might be a question about the location where the sounds come from. For the purpose of investigating the fact, we identify the location of the sounds radiated using one hydrophone. In order to carry out the experiment, it is needed to obtain direct waves from objects. Therefore, we present an experimental method to reduce reflected waves for obtaining direct waves only. The experimental results show the amplitude of waves can be attenuated about 28dB due to a silicon rubber plate of 8.5mm attached at the bottom. This is a quantified result that can expect to obtain the direct waves using the proposed method. Then, we carried out the experiment for the sound source location. From the experimental results, we can undoubtedly present a fact that the sounds are radiated from the objects to be shot due to shock waves.

The purpose of this paper is to implement a Labview based TFDR Real Time system through the instruments of Pci eXtensions for Instrumentation(PXI). The proposed load impedance measurement algorithm was verified by experiments via the implemented real time system. The TFDR real time system consisted of the reference signal design, signal generation, signal acquisition, algorithm execution and results display parts. To implement real time system, all of the parts wore programmed by the Labview which is one of graphical programming languages. In the application software implemented by the Labview we were able to design a suitable reference signal according to the length and frequency attenuation characteristics of the target cable and controled the arbitrary waveform generator(ZT500PXI) of the signal generation part and the digital storage oscilloscope(ZT430PXI) of the signal acquisition part. By using the TFDR real time system with the terminal resistor on the target cable, we applied to the load impedance measurements. In the proposed load impedance algorithm a normalized time-frequency cross correlation function and a cross time-frequency distribution function was employed to calculate the reflection coefficient and phase difference between the input and the reflected signals.
A test method has been attempted to estimate the soil stiffness by measuring and analyzing dynamic signals of stress waves reflected at the bottom end of the SPT rod contacting a soil deposit. Before conducting a real size testing, a series of parametric studies were conducted in this paper to examine the applicability and the theoretical adequacy of the test method. As a result of these studies, it has been shown that the most significant influence factor affecting the amplitude ratio of the reflected wave to the incident wave at the rod-soil interface was the variation of soil stiffness. Also, the variation of the amplitude ratio was found to be closely related with the variation of impedance ratio of the soil deposit to the SPT rod. As a result, a potential of the test method could be proved to estimate the impedance and the elastic modulus of the soil deposit interfaced with the SPT rod using the test method.

Migration image can be distorted due to reflected waves in the source and receiver wavefields when discontinuities of input velocity model exist in seismic imaging. To remove reflected waves coming from layer interfaces, it is a common practice to smooth the velocity model for migration. If the velocity model is smoothed, however, the subsurface image can be distorted because the velocity changes around interfaces. In this paper, we attempt to minimize the distortion by reducing reflection energy in the source and receiver wavefields through acoustic impedance homogenization. To make acoustic impedance constant, we define fake density model and use it for migration. When the acoustic impedance is constant over all layers, the reflection coefficient at normal incidence becomes zero and the minimized reflection energy results in the improvement of migration result. To verify our algorithm, we implement the reverse-time migration using cell-based finite-difference method. Through numerical examples, we can note that the migration image is improved at the layer interfaces with high velocity contrast, and it shows the marked improvement particularly in the shallow part.

In this paper, we proposed a 13.56 MHz wireless power transfer system using loop antennas with tunable impedance matching circuits. In general, a wireless power transfer system shows an impedance mismatching due to a reflected impedance, because a coupling coefficient is varied with respect to separation distance between two resonating antennas. The proposed system can compensate the effect of this impedance mismatch owing to tunable impedance matching circuits using varactor diodes. Therefore, transmission efficiency is enhanced, moreover, the center frequency of the system is not changed, regardless of separation distance between two antennas. In order to demonstrate the performance of the proposed system, a wireless power transfer system with tunable impedance matching circuits is designed and implemented, which has a pair of loop antennas with a dimension of $30\;cm{\times}30\;cm$ cm. The input return loss, coupling coefficient, efficiency, and input impedance variation with respect to a distance between loop antennas were measured. From measured results, the proposed system shows enhanced performances than the case of the general fixed $50\;{\Omega}$ impedance matching circuits. Therefore, we verified that the proposed wireless power transfer system using the proposed impedance matching scheme will be able to ensure robust operation even when the separation distance of antennas is varied.
We have been setting up experiments on propagation of shock waves generated by the pulsed laser ablation. One side of a thin metal foil is subjected to laser ablation as a shock wave propagates through the foil. The shock wave, which penetrates through the foil is reflected by an acoustic impedance which causes the metal foil to high-strain rate deform. This short time physics is captured on an ICCD camera. The focus of our research is applying shock wave and deformation of the thin foil from the ablation to accelerating micro-particles to a very high speed.
We have been setting up experiments on propagation of shock waves generated by the pulsed laser ablation. One side of a thin metal foil is subjected to laser ablation as a shock wave is generated from a localized spot of high intensity energy source. The resulting reactive shock wave, which penetrates through the foil is reflected by an acoustic impedance which causes the metal foil to high-strain rate deform. This short time physics is captured on an ICCD camera. The focus of our research is generating reactive shock wave and high strain rate deforming of thin metal foil for accelerating micro-particles to a very high speed on the orders of several thousand meter per second. Somce innovative applications of this device will be discussed.
High speed probe for measurement of sin91e flux quantum circuits is comprised of coaxial cables and microstrip lines in order to carry high speed signals without loss. For the impedance matching between coaxial cable and microstrip line, we have determined the dimension of the microstrip line with 50${\Omega}$ impedance by simulation and then have investigated the effect of line width and cross-sectional shape of signal line, dielectric material, thickness of soldering lead at the coaxial-to-microstrip transition Point, and the an91c between dielectric material and end part of the signal line on the characteristics of signal transmission of the microstrip line. From the simulation, we have found that these all parameter's had influenced on the characteristic of signal transmission on the microstrip line and should be reflected in fabricating high speed probe, We have also determined the dimension of coplanar waveguide to fabricate testing sample for performance test of high speed probe.

A new methodology is presented to diagnose faults in equipment plasma. This is accomplished by using neural networks as a pattern recognizer of radio frequency (rf) impedance match data. Using a match monitor system, the match data were collected. The monitor system consisted mainly of a multifunction board and a signal flow diagram coded by Visual Designer. Plasma anomaly was effectively represented by electrical match positions. Twenty sets of fault-symptom patterns were experimentally simulated with variations in process factors, which include rf source power, pressure, Ar, and $O_$2 flow rates. As an input to neural networks, two means and standard deviations of positions were used as well as a reflected power. Diagnostic accuracy was measured as a function of training factors, which include the number of hidden neurons, the magnitude of initial weights, and two gradients of neuron activation functions. The accuracy was the most sensitive to the number of hidden neurons. Interaction effects on the accuracy were also examined by performing a 2$^$4 full factorial experiment. The experiments were performed on multipole inductively coupled plasma equipment.

In case of tissue characterization from ultrasonic echo signal, it is difficult to evaluate an absolute physical quantity because of redundancy in the echo signal. For it, in this paper a possibility of characterization of ultrasonic velocity distribution in multilayered medium using dip points analysis method from the reflected echo spectrum is discussed. To prove the possibility of this method, effect of interference phenomenon, impedance difference, attenuation, and thickness is discussed by computer simulation, and then the results confirm the effectiveness. And results of simple experiment are presented.
