  • The H.264/AVC standard developed by the joint Video Team (JVT) provides better coding efficiency than previous standards. The new emerging H.264/AVC employs variable block size motion estimation using multiple reference frame with 1/4-pel MV(Motion Vector) accuracy. These techniques are a important feature to accomplish higher coding efficiency. However, these techniques are increased overall computational complexity. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes advanced fast mode decision suited for variable block size by classifying inter mode based on Rate Distortion Optimization(RDO) technique. Proposed algorithm is going to use to implement H/W structure for fast mode decision. The experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm provides significant reduction computational complexity without any noticeable coding loss and additional computation. Entire computational complexity is decreased about 30%.

  • A fourty-year-old housewife was admitted to the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat from the emergency room, because of severe vertigo associated with positional changes of the head. Hallpike maneuver produced typical patterns of bilateral nystagmus consistent with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV), and further geotropic rotatory nystagmus with positional change of the head in each direction. Direction of nystagmus reversed when the patients was repositioned upright. Particle repositioning maneuver was administered to her left ear but failed to relieve the severe dizziness associated with the head turning to the right. She was then referred to the patient received 27 SGB treatments and the patients was almost completely healed. It is unusual for the BPPV to occur bilaterally therefore reference concerning the effectiveness of SGB for the treatment of BPPV was difficult to obtain. In conclusion we would like to report the successful treatment of BPPV with SGB.

  • In this paper, we propose a window warping method to solve stereo matching problems in projective distortion region. Because the projective distortion region cant t be estimated with fixed-size block matching algorithm, we use the window warping technique in block matching process. The position of a reference window to resample is obtained adaptively according to the degree of reliability in disparity estimated previously. The initial disparity and reliability are obtained by applying a well known hierarchical strategy. The experimental result shows that considerable improvement is obtained in the projective distortion region.

  • In this paper, we propose the new and simple method for sub-pixel block search algorithm by only using integer-pixel for motion estimation and compensation. In many papers, the fast search block match algorithms based on TSS have been proposed. However, these methods could be achieved a little reduction of the computational complexity. All of searching points by 1/4-pixel have own predicted integer-pixel SAD array. Therefor, if we know initial nine SAD values by integer, which is on the searching area of the reference frame, then we can find optimal searching point by 1/4-pixel, directly.

  • This paper proposes a new blind measurement model of blocking artifacts. This model plays an important role in the assessment and enhancement of image quality caused by block-based DCT coding system. The proposed model can measure blocking artifacts without reference to original images and consider the HVS based visual model such as frequency sensitivity and channel masking effect to detect and measure overall blocking artifacts quantitatively. The experimental results show that the proposed model is highly effective in measuring blocking artifacts.

  • The purpose of this study was to prepare calcium phosphate cement [CPC] for use in artificial bone. Nano-crystalline calcium phosphate [CaP] was precipitated at $37^{\circ}C$ using highly active $Ca(OH)_2$ in DI water and an aqueous solution of $H_3PO_4$. From the XRD measurements, the nano-CaP powder was close to apatitic TCP phase and the powders fired at $800^{\circ}C$ showed a critical ${\beta}$-TCP phase. A mixture of one mole $CaCO_3$ and two moles di-calcium phosphate was calcined at $1100^{\circ}C$ to make a reference ${\beta}$-TCP material. The nano-CaP powders were added to the normal ${\beta}$-TCP matrix and fired at $900^{\circ}C$ to make a ${\beta}$-TCP block. The sintered block showed improved mechanical strength, which was caused by the solid state interaction between nano-CaP and normal ${\beta}$-TCP.

  • Cache bypassing is a scheme to prevent unnecessary cache blocks from occupying the capacity of the cache for avoiding cache contamination. This method is introduced to alleviate the problems of non-volatile memories (NVMs)-based memory system. However, the prior works have been studied without considering wear-out attack. Malicious writing to a small area in NVMs leads to the failure of the system due to the limited write endurance of NVMs. This paper proposes a novel scheme to prolong the lifetime with higher resistance for the wear-out attack. First, the memory reference pattern is found by modified reuse distance calculation for each cache block. If a cache block is determined as the target of the attack, it is forwarded to higher level cache or main memory without updating the NVM-based cache. The experimental results show that the write endurance is improved by 14% on average and 36% on maximum.

  • Color shade variation was investigated in zirconia dental blocks, prepared using commercial powders. As a reference color-shade block we used the color indexes of A2, A3.5, A4 and B3, according to the VITA classical color scale. The zirconia powders for color shade blocks showed colors of white, yellow, pink and grey, respectively, after firing at $1530^{\circ}C$. The zirconia powders were mixed according to the recipe of color shade blocks and shaped at lower pressure using a uniaxial hydrostatic press. The shaped sample was inserted into a vinyl pack and sealed in a vacuum form machine. The shaped block samples were reshaped at 450 bar using an isostatic cold press and fired at $1530^{\circ}C$ for three hours. In order to investigate the atmospheric color variation with firing temperature, the A2, A3.5, A4 and B3 sintered blocks were fired between $700^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ under controlled atmosphere of $pN_2$ and $pO_2$. The surface color picture was taken using a smart phone camera and compared with the results obtained using the VITA classical color scale. Quantitative color index value, CIELAB, was measured using a color-meter. Above $800^{\circ}C$, the color darkness greatly increased with the increase of the reduction temperature and keeping time.

  • This paper develops a fast method performing intra prediction which only restores block boundary pixels without decoding all blocks in an I slice of H.264/AVC. To accomplish this, we develop a fast integer inverse DCT scheme that quickly decodes residual block boundary which can be consisted of references pixels. we add the restored block boundary pixels and appropriate calculated prediction pixels for each intra prediction mode and consist of needed reference pixels. The experiments showed that the proposed method produces the reliable performance with reducing the computational complexity, compared to conventional method when applied to H.264/AVC integer DCT.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the active amplification block for the integrated antenna module. The fabricated amplification module have a proper gain and low noise figure in the band of AM/FM band, T-DMB band and GPS band, and show good isolation performance for each band. Manufactured circuits satisfied the gain performance 7 dB in AM band, 11 dB in FM band, 10 dB in T-DMB, and 17 dB in GPS band. The integrated amplification block was realized by 35 mm*35 mm size, and was shown as the same sensitivity performance as compared with a conventional reference antennas.
