  • SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan) has entered into force since 2013 for the reduction of GHG emission of operating ships. SEEMP guidelines include the hardware modification or installation of energy-saving device on ship. It also includes software based energy-saving technology such as optimum routing, speed optimization, etc. Hardware based technologies are not easy to apply to ongoing vessel due to the operational restriction. Therefore, IT based energy-saving technology was applied and its energy efficiency was evaluated using before and after energy-saving system applied voyage data. SEEMP advises a voluntary participation of EEOI (Ship Energy Efficiency Operation Indicator) use as an indicator of ship energy efficiency operation, and those results were also shown to evaluate the improvement efficiency of energy-saving system.

  • Linear size expanders have been studied in many fields for the practical use, which make it possible to connect large numbers of device chips in both parallel communication systems and parallel computers. One major limitation on the efficiency of parallel computer designs has been the highly cost of parallel communication between processors and memories. Linear order concentrators can be used to construct theoretically optimal interconnection network schemes. Existing explicitly defined constructions are based on expanders, which have large constant factors, thereby rendering them impractical for reasonable sized networks. For these objectives, we use the more detailed matching points in permutation functions, to find out the bigger expansion constant from an equation, $\mid\Gamma_x\mid\geq[1+d(1-\midX\mid/n)]\midX\mid$. This paper presents an improvement of expansion constant on constructing concentrators using expanders, which realizes the reduction of the size in a superconcentrator by a constant factor. As a result, this paper shows an explicit construction of (n, 5, $1-\sqrt{3/2}$) expander. Thus, superconcentrators with 209n edges can be obtained by applying to the expanders of Gabber and Galil's construction.

  • A combined sewer system can quickly drain both storm water and sewage, improve the living environment and resolve flood measures. A combined sewer system is much superior to separate sewer system in reduction of the non-point source pollutant load. However, during rainfall. it is impossible in time, space and economic terms to cope with the entire volume of storm water. A sewage system that exceeds the capacity of the sewer facilities drain into the river mixed with storm-water. In addition, high concentration of CSOs by first-flush increase pollution load and reduce treatment efficiency in sewage treatment plant. The aim of this study was to develope a processing unit for the removal of high CSOs concentrations in relation to water quality during rainfall events in a combined sewer. The most suitable operational design for processing facilities under various conditions was also determined. With a designed discharge of 19.89 m/min, the removal efficiency was good, without excessive overflow, but it was less effective in relation to underflow, and decreased with decreasing particle size and specific gravity. It was necessary to lessen radius of vortex separator for increasing inlet velocity in optimum range for efficient performance, and removal efficiency was considered to high because of rotation increases through enlargement of comparing height of vortex separator in diameter. By distribution of influent particle size, the actual turbulent flow and experimental results was a little different from the theoretical removal efficiency due to turbulent effect in device.

  • This paper investigates the accuracy of the vehicle pre-braking speed estimated based upon measured skidding distance. Driver ordinarily takes sudden braking when urgent situation is developed in the front or when the driver is involved in an unexpected situation, and the driver may be inflicted upon an accident depending on the required stopping distance. Among factors influencing the stopping distance of vehicle such as recognition response time of driver, performance of vehicle's braking device, and state of road surface etc, pre-braking speed is seemingly the most important influencing factor. Currently, in the investigating section of traffic accidents, the state of overspeed is determined by the pre-skidding speed calculated based on the length of skid mark. In order to identify the accurate cause of the accident, it is strongly recommended that estimation of pre-braking speed should be estimated taking into account speed reduction during transient time. In this study, we propose a method for estimating more accurate exact speed information of vehicle at the time of traffic accident. The outcomes from this study potentially help better understanding of the characteristics of vehicle for traffic safety in the future.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate smart secondary controls using iPad for the drivers with physical disabilities in the driving simulator. Background: The physically disabled drivers face problems in the operation of secondary control devices that accept a control input from a driver for the purpose of operating the subsystems of a motor vehicle. Many of conventional secondary controls consist of small knobs or switches that physically disabled drivers have difficulties in grasping, pulling or twisting. Therefore, their use while driving might increase distraction and workload because of longer operation time. Method: We examined the operation time of conventional and smart secondary controls, such as hazard warning, turn signal, window, windshield wiper, headlights, automatic transmission and horn. The hardware of smart secondary control system was composed of iPad, wireless router, digital input/output module and relay switch. We used the STISim Drive3 software for driving test, customized Labview and Xcode programs for interface control of smart secondary system. Nine subjects were involved in the study for measuring operation time of secondary controls. Results: When the driver was in the stationary condition, the average operation time of smart secondary devices decreased 32.5% in the normal subjects (p <0.01), 47.4% in the subjects with left hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) and 38.8% in the subjects with right hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) compared with conventional secondary devices. When the driver was driving for the test in the simulator, the average operation time of smart secondary devices decreased 36.1% in the normal subjects (p <0.01), 41.7% in the subjects with left hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) and 34.1% in the subjects with right hemiplegic disabilities (p <0.01) compared with conventional secondary devices. Conclusion: The smart secondary devices using iPad for people with hemiplegic disabilities showed significant reduction of operation time compared with conventional secondary controls. Application: This study can be used to design secondary controls for adaptive vehicles and to improve the quality of life of the people with disabilities.

  • Exposure dose to the examinee was measured using glass dosimeter in the test using panorama device at the time of dental treatment. As a result of measuring expose dose to lens according to the different sizes of Pb banding of own manufacturing to reduce exposure dose to lens especially sensitive to radiation, it was verified that exposure dose to lens varied depending on the size of the Pb banding. With the size of Pb banding of $3{\times}20{\times}0.2cm$, exposure dose tended to increase higher than normal value, and with the size of or more than $5{\times}20{\times}0.2cm$, it decreased. And also, the obtained image with the size of $7{\times}20{\times}0.2cm$ was not suitable for diagnosis. Therefore, it is expected that exposure dose would be reduced by using Pb banding of the size of not less than $5{\times}20{\times}0.2cm$ and not more than $6{\times}20{\times}0.2cm$ in the test, to minimize exposure dose and conduct panorama test efficiently.

  • The interdigitated germanium (Ge) meta-lsemiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors (PDs) with and without an $SiO_2$ anti-reflection (AR) layer was fabricated, and the effect of $SiO_2$ AR layer on their optoelectronic response properties were investigated in detail. The lowest reflectance of 15.6% at the wavelength of 1550 nm was obtained with a $SiO_2$ AR layer with a thickness of 260 nm, which was in a good agreement with theoretically calculated film thickness for minimizing the reflection of Ge surface. The Ge MSM PD with 260 nm-thick $SiO_2$ AR layer exhibited enhanced device performance with the maximum values of responsivity of 0.65 A/W, the quantum efficiency of 52.2%, and the detectivity of $2.49{\times}10^9cm\;Hz^{0.5}W^{-1}$ under the light illumination with a wavelength of 1550 nm. Moreover, time-dependent switching analysis of Ge MSM PD with 260 nm- thick $SiO_2$ AR layer showed highest on/off ratio with excellent stability and reproducibility. All this investigation implies that 260 nm-thick $SiO_2$ AR layer, which is effective in the reduction in the reflection of Ge surface, has a great potential for Ge based optoelectronic devices.

  • Since the advent of turbojet aircraft with their greater weight and high landing speed breaking performance on runway surface has become un critical. Under certain weather conditions(wet weather, winter) hydroplaning or unacceptable loss of traction can occur, resulting in poor braking performance and possible loss of directional control. To address this concern a number of research project me conducted by NASA, FAA, USAF. The various method which was reported the advantage of the increasing the friction and decreasing the hydroplaning effect. A-2 section of inchon international airport was grooved using drying grooving method. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the dry grooving method the surface was spray with water and measured the fiction factor and the depth of the water using Mu meter and water depth measuring device. The field test results shooed that the fiction factor nos increased and the depth of the water decreased. The dry grooving method illustrated the reduction of hydroplaning and also, no distress on the runway.

  • A 1 GHz CMOS fast-lock phase-locked loop (PLL) is proposed to support the quick wake-up time of mobile consumer electronic devices. The proposed fast-lock PLL consists of a conventional charge-pump PLL, a frequency-to-digital converter (FDC) to measure the frequency of the input reference clock, and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to generate the initial control voltage of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The initial control voltage of the VCO is driven toward a reference voltage that is determined by the frequency of the input reference clock in the initial mode. For the speedy measurement of the frequency of the reference clock, an FDC with a parallel architecture is proposed, and its architecture is similar to that of a flash analog-to-digital converter. In addition, the frequency-to-voltage converter used in the FDC is designed simply by utilizing current integrators. The circuits for the proposed fast-lock scheme are disabled in the normal operation mode except in the initial mode to reduce the power consumption. The proposed PLL was fabricated by using a 0.18-${\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process with a 1.8 V supply. This PLL multiplies the frequency of the reference clock by 10 and generates the four-phase clock. The simulation results show a reduction of up to 40% in the worstcase PLL lock time over the device operating conditions. The root-mean-square (rms) jitter of the proposed PLL was measured as 2.94 ps at 1 GHz. The area and power consumption of the implemented PLL are $400{\times}450{\mu}m^2$ and 6 mW, respectively.

  • Titanium dioxide ($TiO_{2}$) film has been widely used as anti-reflection coating for solar cells but not as masking oxide for metallisation and diffusion of impurities. In this paper we have investigated the properties of $TiO_{2}$ for possible incorporation into solar cell processing sequence. Thus the use of a spray deposition system to form the $TiO_{2}$ film and the characterisation of this film to ascertain its suitability to solar cell processing. The spray-on $TiO_{2}$ film was found to be resistant to all the chemicals used in conjunction with solar cell processing. The high temperature anealing (in oxygen ambient) of the spray-on $TiO_{2}$ film resulted in an increased refractive index, which indicated the growth of an underlying thin film of $SiO_{2}$ film for the passivation of silicon surface which would reduce the recombination activities of the fabricated device. Most importantly, the successful incorporation of the $TiO{2}$ film will lead to the reduction of the many high temperature processing steps of solar cell to only one.
