In the medium containing 7% rice powder, 0.15% $NH_4NO_3$ and 0.1% $MnSO_4$ with initial pH 6.0, the red pigment production by Monascus anka albidus was observed. The mycelium were cultured at $30^{\circ}C$ for 5 days with reciprocal shaking (130 rpm). As a carbon source, glutinous rice gave the highest production of pigment. Ammonium nitrate and $KH_2PO_4$ as a nitrogen source and phosphate source, respectively, stimulated best the production of the red pigment. The optimum C:N ratio was found to be 18:1. The production of the pigment by the strain was 2.6 mg/ml in a flask, but 1.8 mg/ml in 5l fermentor, respectively.

From the collection of the National Kimhae Museum, qualitative analyses using microscopic observation, SEM-EDS, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR-ATR spectroscopy, and GC-MS were conducted on three burnished red potteries-Jeoksaekmaoyeonwa burnished red pottery (Neolithic age red pottery), Dandomaoyeonwan burnished red pottery(Bronze age red pottery) and Jeoksaekmaoyeongajimun burnished red pottery(Bronze age red pottery)-to investigate the components of the red pigments and the binder. After the layers of the primer were separated from the red surface, crystals of red pigment particles and minerals were found on the red surface. Through SEM-EDS, Raman estimates that the red pigment is Among soil pigments with iron oxide(Fe2O3) as the main color development source, Red Ocher(Fe2O3). A band characteristic of the Urushiol polymer was detected in the FTIR-ATRspectra(4000~600cm-1), GC-MS analysis confirmed the presence of the benzenemethanol-2-prophenyl, 4-heptylphenol, 1-tetracecanol, heptafluorobutyric texidecane, all of which are the ingredients of the directional structure of the lacquer present in the red layer. Therefore, it seemed that the three burnished red pottery: Jeoksaekmaoyeonwan pottery(Neolithic age burnished red pottery), Dandomaoyeonwan pottery(bronze age burnished red pottery) and the Jeoksaekmaoyeongajimun pottery(bronze age burnished red pottery) made by mixing minerals and Red Ocher(Fe2O3), with lacquer.
Red mud is a waste generated by the aluminium industry, and its disposal is a major problem for this industry. Red mud has a reddish-brown color and superfine particle characteristics. So, it can be a promising pigment admixture for concrete industry. An experimental study was conducted to investigate the potential use of red mud in color concrete. The micro structures of red mud and iron oxide pigment such as porosity, pore size distribution, diameter of particle were analyzed with the aid of SEM, X-ray diffraction(XRD), and the infrared absorbance. Tests on physical properties of color concrete, such as strength, slump, early shrinkage crack patterns, and color characteristics were carried out and the results were reported in this paper.
In this study, the stability of the extracted natural pigments against light, temperature, pH, metal ions, and antimicrobial activity were evaluated in marine bacteria Zooshikella sp. 17TA. The pigment of the strain used in the study was red with maximum absorption at a wavelength of 541 nm. The stability of the pigment was evaluated by measuring the absorbance while preserving for 15 days and examining the retention rate. After 15 days of irradiation, the pigment of this bacterium showed 98% retention in the dark and 91% retention in the temperature range of -20℃ ~ 30℃. When the pH was in the range 4-7, the retention was about 80%, and the retention rate was higher than 85% for all kinds of metal ions except for CuCl2, ZnCl2, and KCl. The bacterial pigments showed high stability under the given irradiated pH, temperature, and metal ion conditions and had shown activity against gram-positive strains. These results suggest that this highly conserved microbial pigment can be applied to the food industry.
The Donggwanwangmyo Shrine was built in the period of Joseon Dynasty in 1602. There are Clay Statues (Gwanwo, Jangbi, Woojanggun, Juchang, Jojaryoung and so on) enshrined in the inside of the main hall. Original color of these Clay Statues are deteriorated by inorganic pollutant like dust. And the origanal forms were damaged during several process of restorations and repaintings. This study carried out XRD, SEM-EDS, P-XRF and chromaticity measurement for characterization of pigments which painted on Clay Statues. As a result, cinnabar, hematite and red lead were used to paint in pigments for the red and brown colors. Light red pigment was made by gypsum with these minerals that make colors. Graphite and gold were used to color of black and gold pigment, respectively. Green pigment is identified of malachite, atacamite and glauconite. Blue pigment which is clearly painted on Clay Statues is interpreted a morden industrial pigment that were painted at repair work. White pigments are detected calcite, gypsum and silver white. Orpiment and litharge were used to color of yellow and light yellow pigment.
The pigment of the Korean cockscomb flower, a betacyanin, was evaluated for its stability in terms of temperature, pH, and its behavior upon exposure to water, light, and air. The pigment was the most stable at pH 4.0, and its activation energy (Ea) for degradation was shown to be 17.55Kcal/mol. In general, sugars protected against color degradation at the concentration of 0.1M. Degradation of this pigment in the presence of food constituents, such as organic acids , metal ions, or antioxidants, at the concentrations normally present in food preparations, can be kept to a minimum by selective adjustment of conditions. This pigment, therefore, has potential value as a food colorant under selected conditions.

The LED of cultivation edible plants was compliance the variable of the photo-receptor pigment with the red light source and ultra red light source from long wave region. The mechanism of cultivation edible plants for each part was necessary the wavelength unit which is appropriate, the illuminant source, motor control and lens design of LED light source about plant. The photo-receptor pigment induces for a long daytime recognition, seed germination and anthesis etc, induction years exists in the state which is an inactivity within the cells and in compliance with the red light source to be converted in active
This research examines using Rice Husk Ash, $Cr_2O_3$ in producing the pink-red color. It studies the formation of cassiterite and malayaite crystallites, the primary factors in producing the pink-red color, in relation to the application of $Cr_2O_3$ to examine its coloring mechanism. In addition, the research intends to identify the optimum synthesizing temperature and maintaining time for crystallization of malayaite, a stable pink-red colorization factor in high temperature glaze during $Cr_2O_3$-$SnO_2$-CaO-$SiO_2$ family pigment synthesis. The optimum substituting contents is Rice Husk Ash : Quartz = 1 : 2, and the optimum temperature is suggested at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 2 h based on analysis results by XRD, FT-IR, Raman microscope, SEM and UV-vis.
During the process of conservation treatment for the shoes[object No. Bon 7038], a red piece of textile was discovered. It was confirmed that hematite(Fe2O3) was used as pigment, through the following scientific examinations as color measurements, solubility in a particular solvent, discoloration, thin-section investigation of cross section under the microscope, composition analysis by SEM-EDS and etc. This is the first red pigment of Kaya period discovered so far, and it is significant because it exists on textile. Besides, red pigment discovered on the shield trace excavated from Tomb No. 11 of Daesung-dong in Kimhae was confirmed as Mercury sulfide(HgS). These two facts testify that similar red pigments had been used both in Kaya and Three Kingdoms around the same period.
Pigment red 53:1 is a dye used in various products as a component of the inks, suspected of being carcinogenic. Thus, the environmental and occupational issues related to it are important. The enzyme-based approach with reusability has advantages to consume less energy and generate less harsh side- products compared to the conventional strategies including separations, microbe, and electrochemical treatment. The degradation of Pigment red 53:1 by the lignin peroxidase immobilized on the surface of magnetic particles has been studied. The immobilization of the peroxidase was conducted on magnetic particle surface with the treatment of polyethyleneimine, glutaraldehyde, and the peroxidase, in sequence. The immobilization was confirmed using X-ray photon spectroscopy. The absorbance peak of the pigment was monitored at 495 nm of UV/Vis spectrum with respect to time to calculate the catalytic activities of the pigment for the immobilized lignin peroxidase. For the comparison, the absorbance of the lignin peroxidase free in solution was also monitored. The catalytic rate constant values for the free lignin peroxidases and the immobilized those were 0.51 and $0.34min^{-1}$, respectively. The reusable activity for the immobilized lignin peroxidase was kept to 92% after 10 cycles. The stabilities for heat and storage were also investigated for both cases.
