  • Recently, there have been many studies about recycling cementitious powder from concrete waste(hereinafter referred to as waste powder), generated after recycle aggregate production. Previous studies showed that when the heating process of waste powder at $700^{\circ}C,\;Ca(OH)_2$ in paste is dehydrated making possible the restoration of hydraulic properties. Recycled cement with hydraulic properties restored is thought to be re-hydrated through the mechanism of hydration, which is almost similar in Portland cement. This clearly suggests that the hydrate of recycled cement is alkali in type. Like in general concrete, if recycled cement is used as a structural material, resistance performance against carbonation or neutralization by $CaCO_3$ in air probably would be most influential to the life of steel-reinforced concrete structure. Thus the purpose of this study is to make an experimental review on chemical properties of recycled cement, manufactured with concrete waste as base material, and investigate the durability of concrete using recycled cement through evaluating the cement's performance of resistance to carbonation in accordance with its accelerating age. Based on its results, further, the study seeks to provide basic information about ways of utilizing recycled cement.

  • This paper concerns the mechanical properties of recycled plastic fiber-reinforced concrete. It presents experimental research results of recycled fiber-reinforced concrete with fiber volume fractions of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2%. Experiments were performed to measure mechanical properties such as compressive strength, elastic modulus, tensile strength, and length changes. The results show that both compressive strength and elastic modulus decreased as fiber volume fraction increased. In addition, the experimental results show that recycled fiber-reinforced concrete is in favor of split tensile strength, flexural tensile strength, characteristic regarding crack mouth opening displacement, and length changes. The results of this study can be used to provide realistic information for modeling of mechanical properties in recycled plastic fiber-reinforced concrete in the future.

  • The objective of this experimental study is to grasp the effect of replacement level of high-quality recycled aggregate on the properties of high-performance concrete. The mixing types were divided into two series based on containing $0\%\;and\;15\%$ fly-ash. Replacement level of recycled aggregate ranged from $0\%\;to\;100\%$. Test results showed that the initial slump and the fluid velocity were independent on the replacement level of recycled aggregate, and the loss of compressive strength was almost $20\%$ with the recycled aggregate only.

  • There are some problems in utilizing recycled concrete aggregate go structural use because of the difficulties concerning about quality control and durability. It seems to be possible to utilize recycled concrete aggregate for making concrete products because quality control of concrete products is easier than ready-mixed concrete, but there are little studies about the properties of the steam-cured recycled aggregate concrete. In this study, various tests were performed such as compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, bonding strength and chloride ion penetration test to evaluate the effect of substitution of recycled concrete aggregate. The results of strength test showed that the concrete strength decreased with the increase of the substitution ratio of recycled concrete aggregate, but it was in the reasonable range and almost equal to that of normal concrete below the substitution ratio of $50\%$. On the other hand, strength test of furnace slag cement concrete shows that the strength of recycled concrete with furnace slag cement under curing condition lower than that of recycled concrete with ordinary portland cement under same condition. From the result of this study, it can be concluded that recycled concrete aggregate is able to be utilized for structural use but substitution ratio should be decided with care in each case. The result of this study could be used as the basic data for the structural use of recycled concrete aggregate.

  • Large-scaling recycling of demolished concrete will concrete will contribute not only to the solution of a growing waste disposal problem, it will also help to consweve natural resoures of sand and gravel and to secure future supply of reasonly priced aggregates for building and other construction purposes within large urban areas. Because recycled aggregate particles consits of substantial amount of relatively soft cement paste component, it is less resistant to mechanical actions. With this view in mind, to obtain a reference data for the development of recycling system and to a basic data the guiedline of recycled aggregate concrete construction and engineering properties of recycled aggregate concrete according to the factors, such as blending ratio of recyced aggregete with the natural aggregate, addition to the factors, such as blending ratio of recycled aggregete with the natural aggregate, addition of flyash, water coment ratio.

  • This study is about the production and properties of waste concrete powder that recycling aggregate is crushed to the waste concrete. We researched the generation and the disposal of recycled concrete powder. It is chemica] and physical features that is compared and analysis according to its production system and repeated crushing of time. Recycled concrete powder is more generated wet process than drying process. In addition, the more it is repeated crushing of time, the more recycled concrete powder is generated. Recycled concrete powder is discovered that wet process is larger of the specific area, lower density and particle size.

  • This study was performed to evaluate applicability of recycled aggregates as subbase and surface concrete materials for cement concrete pavement. Laboratory compaction test, CBR test and plate load bearing test were conducted to evaluate applicability for pavement subbase materials. Recycled concrete for surface course was manufactured with a design strength of $280kgf/cm^2$. Normal coarse aggregate was substituted with recycled aggregates with five different ratios, 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% for recycled concrete mixes. Fresh concrete Properties, concrete strength properties for the five substitution percentages of recycled aggregates after 28-day curing and freezing-and-thawing resistance were evaluated experimentally. Based on the experimental results, it was concluded that the recycled aggregate was the material good enough to use for subbase material, and 40% or lower substitution ratio was an appropriate percentage of recycled aggregates replacement for surface concrete.

  • The research conducted to study the potential practicability of recycled aggregate concrete by analyzing the characteristics of concretes made of recycled quality aggregates produced by wet and dry process has found the following results. The air content of recycled aggregate concrete increased with increase of the substitut on rate due to mortar included while producing recycled aggregates. However, the concretes with aggregate produced by dry process had relatively low rate of increase in air content. The slump showed generally decreasing trend as the substitution rate of recycled aggregate increased regardless of the wet or dry process. It was assumed that the mortar particles remained in recycled aggregate absorbed the surplus hydration in concrete and decreased fluidity The compressive strength generally decreased as the substitution rate of recycled aggregate increased, however there was an increasing trend as well due to decreasing effect of water-cement ratio when the substitution rate of recycled aggregate reached 25, 50% after mix. This phenomena also appeared in early age, which meant that recycled aggregate concrete should not be retarded in setting when applied in the field. The tensile strength also reached the maximum when wet or dry recycled aggregate replaced with 25%. To conclude, recycled aggregates for concrete produced by wet or dry process are expected to demonstrate essential characteristics of concrete without significant decline in physical or dynamic quality when the substitution rate is below 25% although there are variations subject to water-cement ratio. However, slight differences are expected due to types of recycled aggregate and physical quality.

  • In practice, recycled aggregate is not used for a structural member due to its high absorbability and abrasion. It is, however, highly expected that the usage of recycled aggregate increases as the processing technique of the recycled aggregate progresses. In this study herein, the compressive strength of the recycled aggregate concrete was investigated. Coarse aggregate was replaced with 100% of the recycled aggregate, and cement and fine aggregate was replaced with various amount. The specimen was steam-cured at $80^{\circ}C$. It was shown that the concrete can obtain desirable strength when fine aggregate was replaced with up to 60% of recycled fine aggregate, and when cement was replaced with up to 15% of fly ash.

  • Using recycled aggregate from demolished concrete structures provides a peat opportunity fur conserving natural resources. In many parts of world, virgin aggregate deposits have been depleted, and transporting aggregates over long distances can be much more expensive than using a low-cost recycled aggregate. In Korea, about 7-million tons of concrete occurs annually, out of this, about 2-3 million tons are available for recycling. This study is to present the method of utilizing the recycled aggregate. The recycled aggregate concretes were made for compressive strength test, flexural strength test and fatigue test using w/c of 40, 50 and 60%. The replacing rates of recycled aggregate to virgin aggregate were 0, 25 and 50%. The purpose of this study is to compare the fatigue lift of recycled aggregate concrete with that of virgin aggregate concrete. It was shown that the fatigue life of recycled concrete was function of recycled aggregate replacement ratio and water cement ratio.
