  • Recently, the broken concrete lumps resulting from the demolition of concrete structures are creshed for reuse as aggregates(i.e. recycled fine and gravel). And also, in the processing of crusing, the recycled powder of an equivalent of between 20% to 30% by wt.% of the broken concrete lumps is generated. The extensive research of recycled concrete aggregates has been carried out in various parts of the world. But less reseatch on the reuse of recycled concrete powder has been carried out. It is the purpose of this report that the study on the quality evaluation of recycled aggregates for recycled concrete. In specially, this report deals with the properties such as flow, compressive strength, bending strength, drying shrinkage and wight loss rate of mortars replaced standard fine aggregate with recycled powders at the rate of 3, 7, 15, 20 and 30 wt.%. Since the characteristics of recycled mortars with the recycled powders were comparable to those of the normal mortar without the recycled powders as described above, its concretes could be found extensive application in such field as concrete products.

A Study on Improvement for Freeze and Thaw Durability of Concrete Using Recycled Coarse Aggregate (재생굵은골재 사용 콘크리트의 내동해성 향상을 위한 연구)

  • A research for recycling the demolished-concrete as concrete aggregate has been concerned in all over the world. There, however, are some problems that qualities of recycled aggregates are not only largely different, but also mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete decrease a little in comparison with that of natural aggregate concrete. In this study, the resistance of freezing and thawing of concrete using source-concrete recycled aggregate(SRN) and demolished-concrete recycled aggregate(DRA) was investigated. Futhermore a research for improvement of freeze and thaw durability of recycled aggregate concrete was performed. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of SRN and DRA recycled aggregate concrete was dropped 60% before 150 of freezing and thawing cycle, and was much lower than that of control concrete. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of recycled aggregate concrete was increased to decrease water-cement ratio, but the freeze and thaw durability of recycled aggregate concrete was not enough improved. Futhermore, when metakaolin and silica fume were repalced, the freeze and thaw durability of recycled aggregate concrete containg metakaolin was more improved than that of silica fume.

  • The production of waste concrete is increased continuously by urban renewal, reconstruction, remodeling, and so on. So the positive use of recycled aggregate concrete is needed. Research for recycled aggregate concrete that use recycled aggregate from the mid-80s to solve environmental problem of aggregate insufficiency and waste concrete is consisting vigorously. However, specifications and mix design about waste concrete's use are evading use of recycled aggregate concrete yet in spot being not taken a triangular position. Therefore. it analyze existing research data for recycled aggregate concrete collection to develop strength estimate program in this research. Recycled aggregate concrete's strength estimate program if specifications and mix design about recycled aggregate concrete are taken a triangular position to foundation recycled aggregate concrete's practical use to increase judge.

A Study on Rational Evaluation of Recycled Aggregates Extracted from Demolished Concrete (폐콘크리트로부터 재생된 골재의 합리적 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the amount of disposed construction materials like demolished concrete is growing fast and the shortage of natural concrete aggregates is becoming serious. Therefore, recycling of aggregates extracted from the demolished concrete is getting important and use of the recycled aggregates for concrete has been seriously considered. However, the use of the recycled aggregates even for low performance concretes is very limited because there are few rational standard evaluation criteria for recycled aggregates which should be different from that for natural aggregates. In this study, rational evaluation criteria for the recycled aggregates are proposed for their use as concrete aggregates. The study also shows that the performance for both the recycled aggregates and the recycled concrete manufactured with the recycled aggregates can be evaluated effectively according to water absorption ratio of recycled aggregates.

  • Recently, because of the shortage of natural aggregate and the environment regulation of government, the application of recycled aggregate by solution method is observed according as the concern for the reuse of waste concrete. But because the quality of recycled aggregate is poor and quantitative quality judgment standard of recycled aggregate is fluffy, construction field application is difficult. Therefore, this study compares and investigates effect that quality of recycled aggregate influencing recycled concrete. As the result of this study, the more quality of aggregate increases, the more recycled concrete quality increased and high quality recycled aggregate generally displayed performance of similar level with nature aggregate. But, durability of recycled concrete using recycled aggregate appeared lower than concrete using natural aggregate without reference to aggregate quality.

  • Though recycled aggregate is useful resources for concrete, its application to structural frame is not frequent, because of low quality of recycled aggregate. Owing to the development of manufacturing technology to recycled aggregate, it is possible to produce high quality recycled aggregate. The purpose of this study is to confirm the applicability of the high quality recycled aggregate, instead of the natural aggregate, to normal concrete. Main factors of this study are substitute proportion of recycled aggregate, types of recycled aggregate, targeting compressive strength of recycled concrete. From the results of the study, we concluded that it is possible to use high quality recycled aggregate, to get the same strength as concrete using normal aggregate.

  • Various strength characteristics of recycled concretes containing different contents of recycled aggregates from waste concretes were compared with one another. Five different contents. 0%, 50%, 60%, 70% and 80%, of recycled concrete were used for this study. Study results showed that the compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, elastic modulus and fracture toughness varied with contents of recycled aggregates. Target strength of the recycled concrete could be difined by nonparametric regression model as a funcion of content of recycled aggregate in the mix.

  • The quantity of Recycled concrete powder is increased, because it hal been ever so often crushing for production of a good quality recycled aggregates This Study is on the Development of Concrete-Product by Using Recycled Concrete Powder and alto for know performance of concrete-producted having low water contents and it is to know for all of performance of concrete-producted having low water contents The conclusions of this study are following. The use of replacement cement is not effective, because it has strengh of less than 10MPa But It is possible to develop high strength concrete-producted having 39MPa above compressive strength by using recycled concrete powder. Because strength enhancement effects by recycled concrete powder are responsible to optimum grading. The conclusions of this study are following.   • The object of this study is to investigate experimentally the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams using recycled coarse aggregate. At first, the specimens are manufactured for the compressive strength of 210kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, respectively. From the results, Reinforced concrete beams using recycled coarse aggregate were made with recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, with stirrups and recycled coarse aggregate ratio of 0%, 20%, 40% without stirrups. The results of crack pattern and failure mode, load-displacement curve(center point and load point) and load-steel curve(compressive, tensile, stirrup) were analysed. It is concluded from the test that the shear behavior of recycled concrete beams is determined to have similar behavior of normal concrete beams. Therefore, from this study the application of recycled concrete to concrete structures may be possible. But, for using the recycled concrete widely, it is expected that the more studies on quality control, substitution ratio and mix design related with recycled concrete are necessary.

An Experimental Study on the Recycled! Concrete Durability (재생 콘크리트의 내구성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, various tests are performed for the durability of the concrete using domestic recycled coarse aggregate including drying shrinkage, permeability, freezing-thawing resistance and $CO_2$ diffusivity. Tests of freezing-thawing resistance, chloride ion permeability and $CO_2$ diffusivity of recycled concrete show favorable results. But, the maximum drying shrinkage ratio to normal concrete is increased 24% with increasing substitution ratio of recycled aggregate. Therefore, for the use of recycled concrete in structures, the preventive measures of drying shrinkage is necessary in mix design and the adequate substitution ratio of recycled aggregate should be proposed.
