We report three-dimensional polycrystalline anatase TiO2 structures (3D a-TiO2) for environmental and bio-medical applications. The 3D a-TiO2 was synthesized without thermal treatment by the growth of rod-like polycrystals on Degussa P25 (P25) via low temperature (< $85^{\circ}C$) modified alkali hydrothermal processing. X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopic results showed that the rod-like polycrystals of 3D a-TiO2 possessed the highly anatase nanostructures. The photocatalytic activity of 3D a-TiO2 was found to be 2.2 times higher than that of P25. The recyclability of the 3D a-TiO2 was found to be high: the decolorization rate was 94.8% of the initial value after fifteen cycles. In addition, 3D a-TiO2 exhibited excellent antibacterial activities for the sterilization of gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Even at the 10th recycled use, more than 98.4% of E. coli and S. aureus can be killed. These results indicated that 3D a-TiO2 might have utility in several promising applications such as photocatalytic water/air purification and bactericidal agents.

Magnesium alloys exhibit many attractive properties such as low density, high strength/weight ratio, high thermal conductivity, very good electromagnetic features and good recyclability. However, most commercial magnesium alloys require protective coatings because of their poor corrosion resistance. Attempts have been made to improve the corrosion resistance of the Mg alloys by surface treatments, such as chemical conversion coatings, anodizing, plating and metal coatings. Among them, chemical conversion coatings are regarded as one of the most effective and cheapest ways to prevent corrosion of Mg alloys. In this study, the effects of various $Zn^{2+}$ concentrations and pH levels on the formation of zinc phosphate conversion coatings (ZPCCs) on AZ31 magnesium alloy were investigated, and corrosion resistances of the coated samples were evaluated by immersion test and potentiodynamic polarization experiment. The corrosion resistance of the coated AZ31 samples was found to increase with increasing $Zn^{2+}$ concentration and the lowest corrosion rate was obtained for the samples coated at pH of 3.07, independent of $Zn^{2+}$ concentration. The best coatings on AZ31 were obtained at [$Zn^{2+}$] = 0.068 M and pH 3.07. At the conditions of [$Zn^{2+}$] = 0.068 M and pH 3.07, the formation and growth processes of ZPCCs on AZ31 Mg alloy are divided into four stages: formation of a dense layer, precipitation of fine crystals on the dense layer, growths of the inner and outer layers, and reorganization of outer crystalline layer.

This paper proposes an identification system based on QR (Quick Response) code for production and disposal information of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Three thousands and five hundreds of electronic devices have replaced and discarded in South Korea in a year, and twenty millions to fifty millions tons of e-wastes have happened throughout the world every year. According to Gartner, market research institution, the number of IoT devices will increase from 2.3 billions in 2013 to 30 billions in 2020, however, the regulations and systems which take into account environment were not prepared. The identification systems for reflecting information of devices, which are produced or discarded, are required to resolve the problem. The proposed identification system based on QR code can store much more massive data such as the producer, product's model, serial number, recycling rate, recovering rate, recyclability rate, recoverability rate than RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification). Also, users can immediately recognize production and disposal information by a QR code application in a smartphone.
$Cd_{1-x}Zn_xS$-sensitized $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite photocatalysts (designated $Cd_{1-x}Zn_xS/K_4Nb_6O_{17}$) were prepared via a simple deposition-precipitation method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), $N_2$ sorption, ultraviolet-visible light diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), photoluminescence measurements (PL), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$ particles were scattered on the surface of $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$, and had a relatively uniform size distribution around 50 nm. The absorption edge of $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ was shifted to the visible light region and the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes suppressed after $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$ loading. The $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$(25 wt %)/$K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite possessed the highest photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production under visible light irradiation, evolving 8.278 mmol/g in 3 h. Recyclability tests were performed, and the composite photocatalysts were found to be fairly stable. The mechanism of charge separation between the photogenerated electrons and holes at the $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S/K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite was discussed.

In a situation in which around 50 million metric tons of electrical and electronic products is generated globally per year, the total installed base of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is projected to amount to around 75 billion worldwide by 2025. However, there is very little research on identification schemes for end-of-life treatment (EoLT) of IoT devices. To address this issue, this paper proposes new identifiers including EoLT information such as recyclability rate (Rcyc) and recoverability rate (Rcov) of an IoT device, recycling rate (RCR) and recovery rate (RVR) of each part in the IoT device, etc. and implements them by using object identifier (OID), mobile radio frequency identification (RFID) and quick response (QR) code. The implemented OID and mobile RFID can be used with cooperation of a remote server via communication networks and the implemented QR code can be used simply with a smartphone app.
As a branch of covalent organic frameworks (COF), covalent triazine frameworks (CTF) are inherently porous structures composed of networks of repeating hexagonal triazine rings fabricated via the ionothermal trimerization reaction. They also contain plenty of nitrogen functional groups that increase affinity for some chemicals while rejecting others. Because of their tunable properties, many researchers have synthesized and tested CTFs for gas and liquid separation processes. Various studies of novel CTFs, mixed CTF composites, and CTF membranes have experimented for gas adsorption/separation (e.g., CO2, C2H2, H2, etc.) and desalination. Some CTF studies have determined the limits and potentials through advanced computer simulations while subsequent experiments have tested CTFs for photocatalytic properties, suggesting recyclability for greater sustainability. In this review, the covalent triazine framework-based separation membrane is discussed.

In this work, ultrathin and two-dimensional (2D) cobalt hydroxide [Co(OH)2] nanosheets were synthesized by a sonication assisted liquid-phase exfoliation of bulk Co(OH)2. The resulting exfoliated Co(OH)2 is a hexagonal mono-layered nanosheet with a high specific surface area of 27.5 ㎡ g-1. The depolymerization of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) based on glycolysis reaction was also performed using an exfoliated Co(OH)2 catalyst. Excellent catalytic reaction performances were demonstrated; a high PET conversion and bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) yield of both 100% using the nanosheet catalyst were achieved within a reaction time and temperature of 30 min and 200 ℃, respectively. The long-term stability of exfoliated Co(OH)2 catalysts was also demonstrated by recyclability tests of the catalyzed glycolysis reaction of PET over four cycles, showing both 100% of high PET conversion and BHET yield.
Wastewater from refineries and petroleum plant lead to severe environmental pollution. There are various existing processes applied for oily water treatment, but membrane-based technology is one of the most efficient methods. Polymeric membranes prepared from organic materials for the separation of oil in water often face chronic problem of membrane fouling. Inorganic membranes are considered to be more efficient due to longer lifetime than organic membranes. Zeolite membranes have better chemical stability and long-term recyclability. The presence of hydrophilicity enhances the water flux of membrane. Ceramic membranes prepared from zeolites are another efficient class of inorganic membranes applied for oil water separation. This review is focused on oily wastewater separation based on zeolite membrane which classified into two categories, i) neat zeolite and ii) zeolite composites with other materials.

Geopolymers were made by mixing IGCC slag and aluminum smelted waste and their properties were compared with those of IGCC slag based geopolymers. When two raw materials were mixed, the highest compressive strength was obtained at 1.78 of Si/Al ratio. Because the change in compressive strength and density was not so sensitive by the change in Si/Al ratio; that is, the permissible range of Si/Al ratio mixing ratio is broad, it was speculated this broad permissible range would be advantageous for commercialization. The Compressive strength of geopolymers including red mud was higher than that of IGCC based ones and the safety was confirmed by TCLP test. Therefore, it was concluded that the making geopolymers by mixing red mud not only enhances the properties of geopolymers but also gives a recyclability as safe construction materials.

Timber structures are susceptible to moisture, contamination, and pest infestation, which can compromise their integrity and pose a significant fire hazard. Despite these drawbacks, timber's lightweight properties, eco-friendliness, and alignment with current architectural trends emphasizing sustainability make it an attractive option for construction. Moreover, timber structures offer economic benefits and provide a natural aesthetic that regulates building temperature and humidity. In recent years, timber domes have gained popularity due to their high recyclability, lightness, and improved fire resistance. Researchers are exploring hybrid timber and steel domes to enhance stability and rigidity. However, shallow dome structures still face challenges related to structural instability. This study investigates stability problems associated with timber domes, the behavior of timber and steel hybrid domes, and the impact of timber member positioning on dome stability and critical load levels. The paper analyzes unstable buckling in single-layer lattice domes using an incremental analysis method. The critical buckling load of the domes is examined based on the arrangement of timber members in the inclined and horizontal directions. The analysis shows that nodal snapping is observed in the case of a concentrated load, whereas snap-back is also observed in the case of a uniform load. Furthermore, the use of inclined timber and horizontal steel members in the lattice dome design provides adequate stability.
