  • It is challenging to simultaneously estimate parameters in a stock-recruitment relationship, steepness, and natural mortality rate with the other parameters within an age-structured assessment model even in a data-rich situation. Such a problem leads to uncertainty in estimates of management references such as maximum sustainable yield (MSY), which are affected by those components. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of those parameters on MSY by analyzing the process of estimating the MSY. For illustration, we used two data sets: The chub mackerel Scomber japonicus in the Korean waters and the yellowtail flounder Limanda ferruginea in the Southern New England-Mid Atlantic. As a result, the natural mortality rate influenced spawning stock biomass per recruit, yield per recruit, and MSY, while steepness affected MSY. A sensitivity analysis enabled us to estimate the natural mortality rate and steepness. The optimal set of steepness and natural mortality was 1.0 and 0.37 per year for the chub mackerel, and 0.35, and 0.8 per year for the yellowtail flounder, respectively.

  • Phenomenon of vegetation recruitment on the sand bar is drastically rising in the streams and rivers in Korea. In the 1960s prior to industrialization and urbanization, most of the streams were consisted of sands and gravels, what we call, 'White River'. Owing to dam construction, stream maintenance, etc. carried out since the '70s, the characteristic of flow duration and sediment transport have been disturbed resulting in the abundance of vegetation in the waterfront, that is, 'Green River' is under progress. This study purposed to identify the correlation among water level, water temperature, rainfall, soil moisture and soil texture out of the factors which give an effect on the vegetation recruitment on the sand bar of unregulated stream. To this purpose, this study selected the downstream of Naeseong Stream, one of sand rivers in Korea, as the river section for test and conducted the monitoring and analysis for 289 days. In addition, this study analyzed the aerial photos taken from 1970 to 2009 in order to identify the aged change in vegetation from the past to the present. The range of the tested river section was 361 m in transverse length and about 2 km in longitudinal length. According to the survey analysis, the tested river section in Naeseong Stream was a gaining river showing the higher underground-water level by 20~30 m compared to Stream water level. The difference in the underground water temperature was less than $5^{\circ}C$ by day and season and the Stream temperature did not fall to $10^{\circ}C$ and less from May when the vegetation germination begins in earnest. The impact factor on soil moisture was the underground water level in the lower layer and the rainfall in the upper layer and it was found that all the upper and lower layer were influenced by soil particle size. The soil from surface to 1 m-underground out of 6 soil moisture-measured points was sand with the $D_{50}$ size of 0.07~1.37 mm and it's assumed that the capillary height possible in the particle size would reach around 14~43 cm. On the other hand, according to the result of space analysis on the tested river section of unregulated stream for 40 years, it was found that the artificial disturbance and drought promoted the vegetation recruitment and the flooding resulted in the frequency extinction of vegetation communities. Even though the small and large scales of recruitment and extinction in vegetation have been repeated since 1970, the present vegetation area increased clearly compared to the past. It's found that the vegetation area is gradually increasing over time.

  • Since South Korea has problems existing in the respects of educational resources, environment, policies, etc., local universities of South Korea have been in an inferior position in the competition of overseas student enrollment. With increasingly deepening of cultural exchange between China and South Korea, due to geographic close relationship between the two countries, a great number of South Korean students go to China for study; also, Chinese students have increasingly become the important target of recruitment by all local universities in South Korea. In recent years, with rapid increase in the number of Chinese students in South Korea, the overseas student education system of South Korea has been progressed continuously. Compared with educational advantages of universities in European, American developed countries, and the capital region of South Korea, however there still exists a lot of problems in Chinese student recruitment by local universities. The major findings of the study can be summarized as follows. There exist not only some advantages but also some problems to be addressed urgently in Chinese student enrollment by South Korean local universities. How to build a distinctive recruitment environment suitable for Chinese students; and, how to develop a complete "one-stop" educational system suitable for study; and, how to make a strategy of development for Chinese students; and, how to perfect set up the overseas students' education management system; which are the remaining tasks to be solved for. To achieve a win-win for both overseas students and South Korean local universities, it is very important and urgent works to do for administrators of Chinese students in all local universities of South Korea.

  • Minor trauma to the uterine cervix is supposed to induce local immunity to prevent cervical lesions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This study aimed to investigate the local cervical immunity in women with low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) and effects of abrasion after cryosurgery or Pap smear. One hundred women with LSIL and known results of HPV detection were recruited. HPV positive women were randomly divided according to abrasion into cryotherapy and Pap smear observation groups. Cervical tissues and cervico-vaginal lavage (CVL) were collected at 6 and 12 months after allocation. The levels of cytokines at first recruitment were compared with cytokine levels at 6 months after abrasions. The mRNA of IFN-${\gamma}$, TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-10 in cervical tissues and these cytokines secreted in CVL were determined using real time PCR and ELISA, respectively. Anti-HPV16 IgG and IgA antibodies in CVL were assessed by western blotting. At first recruitment of women with LSIL (100 cases), IL-10 mRNA and cytokine in HPV positive group (60 cases) was significantly higher than negative group (40 cases). IFN-${\gamma}$ and TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA level in both groups were comparable but their secretions in CVL were significantly increased in HPV negative group. After abrasion for 6 months in HPV-positive women, all mRNA and secreted cytokines were changed, but no significant difference was observed between cryotherapy and observation groups. When individuals were compared between first recruitment and after abrasion for 6 months, IFN-${\gamma}$ mRNA and anti-HPV16 L1 IgA antibodies were significantly increased in the cryotherapy group. The results suggest that modulation of local cervical immunities by abrasion might promote different effects in clearance of HPV-related cytological abnormalities.

  • Abundances of small fishes that utilized seagrass meadows of Redfish Bay, Texas, were analyzed quantitatively to determine monthly changes of this concentrated subtropical fish community during 1982-1983. an effective quantitative sampler, a 1-㎡ thrown cage, yielded a total of 10,223 fishes that comprised 40 species in 23 families, with average total densities about 15 fishes/㎡ in shoalgrass meadow and 6 fishes/㎡ in turtlegrass meadow. The darter goby, pinfish, code goby, and Gulf pipefish were the four most abundant species, and accounted for approximately 85% of the number of fish collected. However, the two different meadows had different relative abundances of fishes. The darter goby numerically dominated shallower shoalgrass meadow, while the pinfish and code goby were the commonest fishes in deeper turtlegrass meadow. Seasonal changes in both species composition and abundances of fish populations were major characteristics in these subtropical seagrass medows. Peak abundance of total fishes occurred during spring, with a secondary peak in fall. Lowest abundance of total fishes occurred in winter. Each abundant species showed its own seasonal abundance pattern, and had a peak abundance 1-3 months separated from other species, with some overlap of increased larval recruitment. Such distinct seasonal abundance patterns with different times of peak recruitment. Such distinct seasonal abundance patterns with different times of peak recruitment among fish species seem to permit use of the seagrass habitats with reduced, seasonal competition.

  • In this study, we investigated the current status of the teacher education curriculum and the recruitment of general science teachers, and the ways to improve them as suggested by Professors from the Department of Science Education. Most science education departments have not required double majors in general science, and there are wide differences in the number of students who take the general science programs. There is not any department that requires science courses other than its own science major courses when students get only their own in-depth science major certificate. A few departments provide integrated science courses such as history of science, scientific creativity, integrated science, and so forth. Most professors revealed negative perceptions toward 'a compulsory requirement of double majors in general science' with other in-depth science majors such as physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. The majority of professors also suggested providing elective courses in integrated science-related subjects. Regarding general science majored teacher employment, most professors did not agree with separate employment for the general science teacher, although they agreed with the necessity of the general science teaching certificate. They also suggested that preservice teachers need to take science courses other than their own specialized science majors for the in-depth science teaching certificate. Based on the results, we suggested ways to improve the teacher education curriculum and the recruitment of general science teachers.

  • Changes in density of manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum to environment, catch and recruitment were studied in a few stations (Seonjae, Seongam, Hwangdo and Padori) in the West coast area of Korea from January, 2007 to December, 2009. Water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and pH in the study stations were 0.8 to $31.2^{\circ}C$, 22.1 to 33.7 psu, 5.0 to 12.0 mg/L and 7.39 to 8.99, respectively. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen, phosphate and silicate were 0.016 to 1.281 mg/L, 0.004 to 0.093 mg/L and 0.016 to 1.617 mg/L, respectively. Chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.2 to 12.1 ${\mu}g/L$, respectively. Substrata were mainly composed of muddy sand and very poorly sorted in Padori, muddy sand and well sorted in Seonjae and Hwangdo, gravelly muddy sand and poorly sorted in Seongam. Density was high in Seonjae and Seongam, but low in Hwangdo and Padori. In clam culture station, in which spat was naturally produced without sowing seedlings, the living density was decreased by increasing of death and a catch of shellfish, and recruitment was changed. Also, Density affected condition factor and shape of clam. Condition factor was the highest in Hwangdo, in which temperature in the winter and chlorophyll-a were high, and was the lowest in Padori. In the shape of clam, the shape in Seongam was a elongated form, but in Padori was a stunted form.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference in perceptions of job applicants on core competency in the recruitment environment based on National Competence Standards(NCS), and also to obtain information relating to the seeking of employment and employment education plans. A survey and paired t-test were conducted on 355 job applicants of vocational colleges and four-year universities. Through these applicants, the difference between the current level and level of importance dependent on areas of core competency was analyzed. In addition, IPA analysis was conducted in order to confirm the educational necessity in this area. As a result, there were significant differences between the current level and level of importance in all 10 areas. IPA analysis confirmed that educational needs are prioritized. As a result, it was found that the areas which should be strengthened in both groups were interpersonal ability, communication ability, numerical ability, problem solving ability, and self-development ability. The area recognized as being in 'a state of excess' was resource management ability. As a result of checking the necessity levels of the two groups, it was found that job applicants of vocational colleges had to strengthen their problem solving ability, and the applicants of four-year universities had to intensify their communication ability, interpersonal ability, and information ability.

  • Due to the expanding roles of corporations, the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has escalated, fostering continued efforts for organizations to integrate CSR into the context of recruitment. Additionally, demand for CSR authenticity is increasing. Damaged CSR authenticity can give rise to negative consequences, but research on the CSR authenticity is lacking, particularly within the realms of job search and recruitment. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate whether organizational attractiveness varies with CSR authenticity (high CSR authenticity, low CSR authenticity, and control conditions) through a scenario design. Additionally, the study examined the mediating effects of value congruence, as well as the moderating effect of moral identity in this relationship. Conducted among 300 undergraduate students, the results indicated that the organizational attractiveness was highest in the high CSR authenticity condition, followed by the control condition, and the lowest in the low CSR authenticity condition. However, the difference between the high CSR authenticity condition and the control condition was not statistically significant. PROCESS macro was employed to analyze the mediating model of value congruence. The results revealed that the mediating effect of value congruence was significant across all conditions. In sequence, examining the moderating effect and the moderated mediating effect of moral identity, it was found that these effects were significant in the high CSR authenticity condition in comparison to the other conditions. The findings of this study suggest the importance of considering CSR authenticity in the context of job search and recruitment and also, provides an insight into the mechanism through which CSR authenticity influences organizational attractiveness.
