  • This paper surveys a number of remotely operated recovery techniques and their recent applications in the removal of the toxic liquid from sunken ships, and suggests the appropriate recovery technique for our ocean environment, especially, in view of its cost and efficiency. Authors also give the technical requirements for the suggested remotely operated recovery system and the basic design result which is well-matched with such requirements.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a carrier recovery algorithm of OFDM/QPSK-DMR(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Quadrature Phase Shift Keying Modulation-Digital Microwave Radio)system using BL-PSF(Band Limited-Pulse Shaping Filter) and have analyzed the carrier phase MSE(Mean Square Error) performance of OFDM/QPSK and single carrier DMR systems. The existing OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using windowing requires training sequence or CP(Cyclic prefix) to synchronize a receive. carrier frequency. Because in the OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using BL-PSF there is no training sequence or CP(Cyclic Prefix), we also propose a carrier recovery useful to the system. The simulation results confirm that the proposed carrier recovery algorithm has the same carrier phase MSE(Mean Square Error) performance for the single carrier DMR system under AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) environment.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a clock recovery algorithm of OFDM/QPSK-DMR(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Quadrature Phase Shift Keying Modulation-Digital Microwave Radio)system using BL-PSF(Band Limited-Pulse Shaping Filter) and have analyzed the clock phase error variance performance of OFDM/QPSK and single carrier DMR systems.   • Relaxed static stability(RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modem version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. Therefore, flight control system are necessary to stabilize an unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. Also, flight control systems of modem version aircraft employ a safety system to support emergency situations such as a pilot unknown attitude flight conditions of an aircraft in night flight-testing. This situation is dangerous because the aircraft can lose if the pilot not take recognizance of situation. Therefore, automatic recovery system is necessary. The system called the "Pilot Activated Recovery System" or PARS, provided a pilot initiated automatic maneuver capable of an aircraft recoveries in situations of unusual attitudes. This paper addresses the concept of PARS and designed using nonlinear control law design process based on model of supersonic jet trainer. And, this control law is verified by nonlinear analysis and real-time pilot evaluation using in-house software. The result of evaluation reveals that the PARS support recovery of an aircraft unusual attitude and improve a safety of an aircraft.

HRSF: Single Disk Failure Recovery for Liberation Code Based Storage Systems

  • Storage system often applies erasure codes to protect against disk failure and ensure system reliability and availability. Liberation code that is a type of coding scheme has been widely used in many storage systems because its encoding and modifying operations are efficient. However, it cannot effectively achieve fast recovery from single disk failure in storage systems, and has great influence on recovery performance as well as response time of client requests. To solve this problem, in this paper, we present HRSF, a Hybrid Recovery method for solving Single disk Failure. We present the optimal algorithm to accelerate failure recovery process. Theoretical analysis proves that our scheme consumes approximately 25% less amount of data read than the conventional method. In the evaluation, we perform extensive experiments by setting different number of disks and chunk sizes. The results show that HRSF outperforms conventional method in terms of the amount of data read and failure recovery time.

Treatability Prediction Method for Nanofiltration Systems in Drinking Water Treatments (정수처리에 이용되는 나노여과막시스템의 성능예측방법 확립)

  • This research is conducted to develop predictable method of real scale nanofiltration treatability with small scale nanofiltration experiments. As a result of comparing calculated values with measured values, they are in a good agreement for the concentrations in filtered water and concentrated water. The results of that are not affected by change of system recovery from 20% to 95%. The proposed method is produced using constant recovery of elements, that is, no considering the pressure change. we can predict filtrated flux and contaminant concentrations with the method. The method has the following steps. (1) Calculate recovery of each element with water quality level after fixing recovery elements, (2) Predict system recovery with recovery of elements in 1, 2, 3, and 4 banks, (3) Run small scale nanofiltration experiments in predicted water quality and (4) Simulate large scale nanofiltration system for forecasting actual water quality. As the cost for nanofiltration pretest will reduced if we use the proposed method, it will be a promising method for introducing nanofiltration to supply safe drinking water.

  • An electric steam boiler equipped with a condensate recovery system, which stores the condensate generated after using steam in steam washers, steam cookers, steam irons, and steam cleaners in a condensate tank and supplies compressed air to the condensate tank so that the condensate is recovered to the boiler by the pressure of the compressed air, was studied. In the results of this study, the heat energy balance between the quantity of the heat generated by the non-metallic surface heating element and the quantity of the heat absorbed by the water was good in a range of ${\pm}5%$. In addition, the heat transfer rate increased in proportion to the electric power of the surface heating element heater, the waste heat energy was normally recovered by the recovery of the condensate of the steam boiler equipped with the high compression waste heat recovery system, and the recovery rate of the waste heat exhibited 23%.

  • The presence of induction motor loads in a power system may cause the phenomenon of delayed voltage recovery after the occurrence of a severe fault. A high proportion of induction motor loads in the power system can be a significant influence on the voltage stability of the system. This problem referred to as FIDVR(Fault Induced Delayed Voltage Recovery) is commonly caused by stall of small HVAC unit(Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioner) after transmission or distribution system failure. This delayed voltage recovery arises from the dynamic characteristics associated with the kinetic energy of the induction motor load. This paper proposes the UVLS (Under Voltage Load Shedding) control strategy for dealing with FIDVR. UVLS based schemes prevent voltage instability by shedding the load and can help avoid major economic losses due to wide-ranging cascading outages. This paper review recent topic about under voltage load shedding and compare decentralized load shedding scheme with conventional load shedding scheme. The load shedding strategy is applied to an actual system in order to verify the proposed FIDVR mitigation solution. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in resolving the problem of delayed voltage recovery in the Korean Power System.

Comparision of Heat Exchanging Performance Depending on Different Arrangement of Heat Exchanging Pipe (II) (열회수장치의 열교환 파이프배치형식별 열교환 성능 비교(II))

  • This study was carried out to improve the performance of heat recovery device attached to exhaust gas flue connected to combustion chamber of greenhouse heating system. Three different units were prepared for the comparison of heat recovery performance; AB-type(control unit) is exactly the same with the typical one fabricated for previous study of analyzing heat recovery performance in greenhouse heating system, other two types(C-type and D-type) modified from the control unit are different in the aspects of airflow direction(U-turn airflow) and pipe arrangement. The results are summarized as follows; 1. In the case of Type-AB, when considering the initial cost and current electricity fee required for system operation, it is expected that one or two years at most would be enough to return the whole cost invested. 2. Type-C and Type-D, basically different with Type-AB in the aspect of airflow pattern, are not sensitive to the change of blower capacity with higher than $25\;m^{3}/min$. Therefore, heat recovery performance was not improved so significantly with the increment of blower capacity. This is assumed to be that air flow resistance in high air capacity reduces the heat exchange rate as well. Never the less, compared with control unit, resultant heat recovery rate in Type-C and Type-D were improved by about 5% and 13%, respectively. 3. Desirable blower capacity for these heat recovery units experimented are expected to be about $25\;m^{3}/min$, and at the proper blower capacity, U-turn airflow units showed better heat recovery performance than control unit. But, without regard to the type of heat recovery unit, it is recommended that comprehensive consideration of system's physical factors such as pipe arrangement density, unit pipe length and pipe thickness, etc., are required for the optimization of heat recovery system in the aspects of not only energy conservation but economic system design.

  • A significant amount of labor hour is being spent for clean up spent abrasives after blasting. So, for improving the efficiency of abrasive(grit) recovery process which acts as the neck of a battle in preceding coating stage, it was established the theoretical background for pneumatic transport technology in the abrasive recovery system as well as experimentally evaluated the effect of design parameters such as flow pattern, saltation velocity and pressure drop on the efficiency of the abrasive recovery system. And, by optimizing the operating parameter such as the length and diameter of suction hose, specification of recovery device, recovery mouth and hose connection method, a method which can dramatical1y increase the efficiency of abrasive recovery system, is derived.
