  • In this paper, a new indexing technique is proposed for efficient evaluation of nested queries on aggregation hierarchy in object-oriented data model. As an index data structure, an extended $B^{+}$ tree is introduced in which instance identifier to be searched and path information used for update of index record are stored in leaf node and subleaf node, respectively. the retrieval and update algorithm on the introduced index data structure is provided. Comparisons under a variety of conditions are given with current indexing techniques, showing improved performance in cost, i.e., the total number of pages accessed for retrieval and update.

  • Chosundoseohaeje, a book type catalog was published three times under the rule of Japanese imperialism. This catalog has several characteristics of modem catalog as fellows : First, each record of this catalog includes title, volume no., statements of responsibility, printing type, annotated bibliography containing date, author, background, structure, contents of the book, and biographies. Second, this catalog has a subject retrieval system by the four-part classification(Kyung, Sa, Ja, Jib), title retrieval system by Japanese alphabetical index, and authorㆍeditor retrieval system by their family name index or king's name index. Third, this catalog has a system indicating the location of described books by Gyujanggak book numbers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate college students' preferences of Web-based OPAC retrieval techniques and their ABO blood types as an empirical survey. Data was collected through a self-designed questionnaire with a total of 101 undergraduate students from the College of Social Sciences responding. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and One-way ANOVA. The results show that 'title' was most preferred among the access points, 'AND' was the most preferred Boolean operator, 'publication year' and 'subject' were the most favored techniques in limiting the scope of retrieval, and 'record number limit per page' was the most frequently used for displaying retrieval results. The results also show that there were little(3 out of 22, i.e. 13.6%) statistically significant differences between the college students' preferences of Web-based OPAC techniques and their blood type.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a rational guidelines of authority record for heading controls. It analyzes the headings of AACR2R and KCR2. To efficient retrieval, It suggests distinction of different persons and different corporate bodies of the same name and subject list. It also investigates the problem sand suggests the possible improvements for control of headings. The rules for heading control retains the frame from headings of cataloging rules. The guideline for heading controls will be integrated in the rules for headings.

  • In recent years, two major streams in medical information systems are:1) system integration among OCS(Order Communication System), EMR(Electronic Medical Record), PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System), and ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) and 2) system integration through medical collaboration between East and West medical service providers. One of the characteristics which differentiate the Korean medical industry from the western medical industry is the East-West medical collaboration. In many respects there are many differences between East and West medical treatment. Although East and West medical treatment have developed from different medical philosophies and standards, we assume that the better medical care can be provided by integrating their medical procedures effectively. The two possible approaches to the integration of East and West medical information systems are suggested in this paper:One is loosely coupled model and the other is tightly coupled model. EMR improves the quality of medical record which reflects the quality of clinical practice. It provides more efficient and convenient way of input, retrieval, storage, communication and management of medical data. We abstracted the standard medical procedures from the two medical procedures performed in Daejeon Oriental Hospital and Hehwa Clinic at Daejeon University and also abstracted database schema by analyzing the characteristics of information needed in East-West medical collaboration. Our EMR is composed of two types of data:one is structured data and the other is unstructured data, which are formalized by SOAP(Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) format. Currently the integrated system is implemented and operated successfully for six months.

  • This study concerns logistics support analysis record(LASR) which provides guaranteed support, and is needed in various weapon systems development and acquisition to develop the optimal factor for integrated logistics support(ILS) by reflecting the results of logistics support analysis(LSA). We observe and analyze the logistics management information(LMI) system used in the United States under the integrated data environment(IDE), and analyze the differences between logistics management information system and the LOADERS(logistic support analysis data entry and retrieval system) which is currently used in Korea. Based on the analyzed results, a improvement model that corresponds to reality and can be applied is presented.

  • This study is to develop effective document ranking algorithms in the P-norm retrieval system which can be implemented to the Boolean retrieval system without major difficulties by using non-statistical term weights based on document structure. Also, it is to enhance the performance by introducing the rank adjustment process which rearranges the ranks of retrieved documents according to the similarity between the top ranked documents and the rest of them. Of the non-statistical term weight algorithms, this study uses field weight and term pair distance weight. In the rank adjustment process, five retrieval experiments were performed, ranging between the case of using one record for the similarity measurement and the case of using first five records. It is proved that non-statistical term weights are highly effective and the rank adjustment process enhance the performance further.

  • The National Archives of Korea (NAK) operates the NAK Portal as a record search system. However, user search satisfaction is too low, and the number of visitors to the portal is gradually decreasing. This study identifies the portal's issues, proposes feasible improvements, and constructs a pilot system to validate the solutions. The preliminary assessment revealed six major issues, such as poor search tool performance and the lack of consistency in search results. After clarifying the improvement measures, a pilot system was established and compared with the National Records Portal. The evaluation showed significant performance improvements in the pilot system, such as Precision, Recall, and Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR).

  • In recent years, Personal Health Record (PHR) has emerged as a patient-centric model of health information exchange. The Personal Health Record (PHR) owners enjoy the full right of accessing their records anywhere and anytime making storage and retrieval more efficient. Due to the sensitivity and confidential nature of the PHR, however, the PHR is maintained in a secure and private environment with the individual determining rights of access. In this paper, we propose a system which enables access to the user's PHR in the event of emergency. In emergency situation where the user is unconscious, the emergency staff can use the PHR information to request a emergency access to the PHR server based on the predefined rights of access for PHR. Under the proposed system, the PHR owner can specify a fine grain access control policy during emergency situations.

  • This study is a case study for in-house developed Record Maintenance and Management (RMMS) which is a digital data storage/retrieval system in a GIS-enabled solution. RMMS is designed for reorganizing submitted architectural drawings associated with scanned drawings files & geodatabase, managing metadata/table and geometric features in ArcSDE/Enterprise geodatabase format. The birth of the RMMS was borne out of a necessity for a modernized approach in digital file basis to provide improved customer services for various architectural drawings and associated with geo-spatial and its attribute information. Through a case study for building permit & review practice implemented on an internet-based Electronic Architectural administration Information System (EAIS) at the local governments in Korea, this study is able to derive differences between GIS-enabled RMMS system implemented in the Richmond City and internet-based EAIS system implemented in the local government in Korea. In an effort to be the most effective, it presents meaningful ways of maximizing efficiency in record maintenance & management system derived from the case studies that looked into in ways of a method in RMMS' operation, implementation on GIS platform, mutual interface among various programs with various digital files and finally technical supports and system development /upgrade.
