To study the conditions to enhance success of embryo transfer in the dog, 20 mixed-breed bitches were used for the experiment along with 4 male dogs for mating. The bitches were paired according to synchronism of natural estrus, or the counterpart as donor or recipient was treated with gonadotropin as FSH (follicular stimulating hormone) or PMSG (pregnant mare serum gonadotropin) for induction of estrus to be synchronized with estrus of the other bitch in natural estrus. Embryo recovery was performed in two ways for comparison, either by flushing each uterine horn after ovariohysterectomy or by flushing each horn in the state of non-ovariohysterectomy. In addition, the result of pregnancy according to the embryo stage and the repeatability of the experimental animals as donor or recipient were also investigated. FSH or PMSG was administered to the bitches which had passed over 4 months from last estrus, resulting in estrus-positive in 3 dogs of 6 FSH-treated dogs (50.0%), and in 5 dogs of 9 PMSG-treated dogs (55.6%), determined by proestrus signs and vaginal smear test. Estrus-positive bitches induced with gonadotropin were used as donor or recipient resulting in one embryo-recovered bitch as donor and one offspring-delivered bitch as recipient in 5 PMSG-treated dogs, whereas no result was obtained from 3 FSH-treated dogs. The rate of embryo recovery to be compared with number of corpus luteum was 68.2% in ovariohysterectomized dogs and 55.2% in non-ovariohysterectomized dogs, respectively. The number of dogs from which embryo was collected were 4 dogs of 6 ovariohysterectomized dogs (66.7%) and 6 dogs of 7 non-ovariohysterectomized dogs (85.7%), respectively. The result of parturition was obtained from one dog of 5 estrus-induced recipients, whereas no result was obtained from 3 natural-estrus recipients. The only dog which delivered a male puppy had been transferred 3 morulae and 2 blastocysts. Of 6 repeat-used bitches in canine embryo transfer, 3 dogs showed repeatability either as donor or recipient. These results indicated that inducing estrus of a dog with gonadotropin is feasible in canine embryo transfer to be synchronized with that of a natural-estrus dog, that embryo recovery is also possible in non-hysterectomized dogs, that the estrus-induced dog is also usable as recipient to result in parturition, and that repeat-use of a bitch as donor or(and) recipient is possible in canine embryo transfer.
This study was undertaken to evaluate the role of peritoneal exudate cells in the transfer of immunity against the liver cuke, Clonorchis sinensis in the inbred BALB/c mice. Ten donor mice were divided into 2 groups. One group consisted of 5 mice was infected orally with 20 metacercariae of C. siitensis, and the other group was injected intraperitoneally with 20 excysted larvae. Thirty days after immunization, the peritoneal exudate cells tore obtained from the donor mice. Twenty recipient mice were divided into 4 equal groups for the purpose of primary immunization. The mice of Group I were injected intraperitoneally with $2{\times}10^6$ peritoneal exudate cells of the donor mice infected orally, those of Group II were injected intraperitoneally with $2{\times}10^6$ peritoneal exudate cells of the donor mice injected intraperitoneally. Those of Group III were injected orally with 20 metacercariae of C. sinensis. The group IV mice served as controls. Four days after the primary iMmunization all recipient mice were challenged orally with 20 metacercariae of C. sinensis, and then killed 30 days after the challenging infection. When the peritoneal exudate cells were injected into the recipient mice, pronounced reduction in eggs per gram of the feces was found in the mice o( Group I and Group II, but no reduction in those of Group III. In the worm burdens of C. sinensis, the number of flukes found in the mice of Group II was only significantly less than those in the control group (IV). In addition the number of plaque forming cells per spleen in the mice of Group II was found larger than those in Group I. It is likely that donor peritoneal exudate cells transferred to the recipients might result in the production of relative immunity.
The genetically engineered microorganisms (GEMS) could be released accidentally or ii)rexperimental purposes, as the genetic engineering, technique ha:. become very popular inany laboratories of biological sciences. Recently, the transgenic animal production technique is very important for the production of bio-parmaceutical as animal bio-reactor system. However, the absence of survival evaluation in vitro produced transgenic embryos has been a problem of the low productivity of transgenic animal because of absent of pre-estimate of pregnancy after transgenic embryos transferred into recipient. Therefore, this study is conducted to improve efficiency of transgenic cattle production by improving the non-surgical embryo transfer (ET) method. Transgenic bovine embryos were produced by injection of feline immunodeficiency virus enhanced green fluorescent protein (FIV-EGFP) lentiviral vector into perivitelline space of in vitro matured MII stage oocytes, and then in vitro fertilization (IVF) was occured. Normal IVF and EGFP expressing blastocysts were transferred into recipients. Results indicated that 2 expanded blastocysts (34.7%) transferred group showed significantly (P<0.05) higher pregnancy rate than 1 expanded blastocyst (26.8%) transferred group. In case of parity of recipient, ET to heifer (34.9%) showed significantly (P<0.05) higher pregnancy rate than ET to multiparous recipient (21.2%). However, there are no significant differences of pregnancy rate between natural induced estrus and artificial induced estrus groups. Significantly (P<0.05) higher pregnancy rate was obtained from recipient group which have normal corpus luteum with crown group (34.8%) than normal corpus luteum without crown (13.6%). Additionally, treatment of $100{\mu}g$ Gn-RH injection to recipient group (38.6%) 1 day before ET significantly (P<0.05) increase pregnancy rate than non- Gn-RH injection to recipient group (38.6%). We also transferred 2 EGFP expressing expanded blastocysts to each 19 recipients, 7 recipients were pregnant and finally 5 EGFP transgenic cattle were produced under described ET condition. Therefore, our result suggested that transfer of 2 good-quality expanded blastocysts to $100{\mu}g$ of Gn-RH injected recipient which have normal corpus luteum with crown is feasible to produce transgenic cattle.
This article investigates 230 public assistance recipient elderlies and 354 community elderlies in order to find out the current status and influencing factors on elder abuse. It surveyed at Gwangju metropolitan city. The result from the research were 1) the degree of elder abuse is generally low, and the primary type of abuse is psychological abuse and neglect. The victims of abuse experienced psychological pain rather than physical pain. 2) the abuser are mainly in early forties, and very unstable economically. 3) based on personal characteristics of the recipient and non-recipient elderlies, there are significant differences between respondents' sex, age, education level, income, ADL, IADL, chronic disease, depression, social support, and number of friends. 4) the factors affecting elder abuse of public assistance recipient elderlies are depression, alcohol, social support(elderly-related factors), alcohol, childhood abuse(abuser- related factors), and emotional relationship, number of family members(family- related factors). And, the factors affecting elder abuse of community elderlies are childhood abuse, social support(elderly-related), relationship with victims(abuser -related), and emotional relationship(family-related). Finally, the research recommends that differential intervention strategies are needed in order to prevent elder abuse of the public assistance recipient elderlies and the community elderlies.
We report a case of autologous breast reconstruction in which a thoracodorsal vessel was used as a recipient vessel after a hypoplastic internal mammary vessel was found on preoperative computed tomography (CT) angiography. A 46-year-old woman with no underlying disease was scheduled to undergo skin-sparing mastectomy and breast reconstruction using a deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap. Preoperative CT angiography showed segmental occlusion of the right subclavian artery with severe atherosclerosis and calcification near the origin of the internal mammary artery, with distal flow maintained by collateral branches. The thoracodorsal artery was selected to be the recipient vessel because CT showed that it was of adequate size and was not affected by atherosclerosis. The patient experienced no postoperative complications, and the flap survived with no vascular complications. The breasts were symmetrical at a 6-month follow-up. This case highlights that preoperative vascular imaging modalities may help surgeons avoid using diseased vessels as recipient vessels in free flap breast reconstructions.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between gender, gift recipient, and group identity by product category of Korean consumers. 672 usable questionnaires from South Korea completed a self- administered survey with a five-point Likert scale. This questionnaire evaluated the perceived importance of group identity when buying apparel and electronics as a gift for kin, nonkin, and co-workers. The interaction between gender, gift recipient, and group identity were statistically significant. The results suggest that the importance of group identity may vary when gender and gift recipient differ by product category. Recommendations for future research are discussed.
We experienced one case of orthotopic cardiac transplantation in a patient with end stage dilated cardiomyopathy. This 50 year-old female recipient was suffered from NYHA functional class IV cardiac failure and dependent upon intravenous inotropic support for 2 months [recipient category 1]. Her preoperative condition was grave with left ventricular ejection fraction of 20% and estimated systolic pulmonary arterial pressure [from Doppler study] was 50mmHg. The brain-dead donor was 31 year-old male with head trauma. The body sizes [weight, height] of the donor/recipient were 70 Kg, 165 cm / 43 Kg, 160 cm and appropriately overmatched. Preoperatively, identical ABO/Rh blood group [A+] and nonreacting HLA crossmatching were confirmed. On November 11 1992 cardiac transplantation was performed without complication. Multiple organ procurement team and heart transplantation team were organized the operation schedule appropriately to minimize the ischemic time. The pump time was 126 minutes and aortic crossclamping time of recipient heart was 73 minutes and, as a result, total ischemic time of the transplanted heart was 75 minutes. Postoperatively, the vital signs were stable with minimal inotropic support. The immunosuppressive therapy was commenced from preoperatively and cyclosporine, azathioprine, and corticosteroid were used as a combination therapy as scheduled and monitored with blood drug concentration, WBC count, renal function and most importantly regular endomyocardial biopsy. Now, 5 months after transplantation, the patient is in NYHA functional class II with minimal cardiac drug support.
This study was carried out to improve a technique of cloned animal prodcution by preactivation of nuclear recipient oocytes with ionomycin and 6-dimethylaminopurine (6-DMAP) in rabbits. The oocytes were collected from the oviduct of superovulated rabbit at 19∼20 hours post hCG injection. The collected oocytes were preactivated and self-enucleated by treating 5 uM ionoycin for 5 min, and 2.0 mM 6-DMAP for two hours. Microsurgical removel of the chromation complex in the second polar bodies was effectively performd and single blastomere separated from 32-cell stage rabbit embryos was injected into the perivitelline space of the enculeated recipient oocyts. Follwoing electrofusion and in vitro culture for 18 hours, the nuclear transplant(NT) embryos were transferred into the uterine horns of naturally mated or synchronized recipient does. When 32 NT embryous reconstituted with preactivated oocytes were transferred to 2 recipient does, one foster doe delivered two offspring (6.3%), while not a offspring was delivered from three foster does which received 17 NT embryos reconstituted with non-preactivated oocytes. A total of 68 NT embryos reconstituted with preactivated oocytes were transferred into the uterine horns of 7 synchronized ecipient does. Among them, two recipients were pregnant and delivered three offspring(5.9%).
Purpose: Liver transplantation is a groundbreaking section in the field of surgery. Nowadays over 90% of success rate is accomplished and life expectancy of the patients has been elongated. Patients are now seeking for surgical procedures including cosmetic plastic surgery. But these patients take immunosuppressive medication and steroids, which can increase the risk of wound infection, and delay wound healing. By reviewing the case of a 21-year-old liver transplant recipient who underwent mastopexy due to breast ptosis, we discussed about the matters we should consider when performing surgery in liver transplantation recipients. Methods: The patient was a 21-year-old female who received liver transplantation from her father. She was exposed to massive amount of steroids and immunosuppressants, which led to breast ptosis. The vertical and short horizontal incision mastopexy using a medial-based pedicle was done, 29 months after the liver transplantation. Results: On postoperative day 1, she was discharged. On day 10, sutures were removed and taping was applied. There was no sign of wound infection, wound dehiscence, hematoma or bleeding. The patient was followed up at 3, 6 and 9 months after the operation. Mild recurrence of the glandular ptosis was observed but revision was not required. Conclusion: We were able to successfully operate without any complications in the liver transplant recipient. With special attention and consideration, cosmetic plastic surgery can be safely performed in organ transplantation recipients.
