The Relationship Between 4-5 year olds's Creative Thinking and Mothers' Supportive Child-Rearing Behaviors (4-5세 유아의 창의적 사고와 어머니의 지지적 양육행동 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine 4-5 year older's creative thinking and to investigate the interrelationship between young child's creative thinking and their mother's supportive child-rearing behavior. The subjects were 125 pairs of 4-5 year olders and their mothers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The Multidimensional Stimulus Fluency Measure(Van Hook & Tegano, 2002) was revised and used to measure children's creative thinking. For determining mother's supportive child-rearing behavior, the Child Rearing Behavior Observation Scale (Renshaw & Gardner, 1990) was revised and used. The major results were as follows: first, there is no significant difference between boys and girls, and between the 4 year-olders and 5 year-olders in the "child's creative thinking". Second, when mothers properly keep encouraging children's creative behavior in the course of performing their task, it can significantly effect on the development of their creative thinking.

Investigation on Causal Relationships Between Home Environment, Children's Self-evaluation and Learned Helplessness (가정환경, 아동의 자아 평가와 학습된 무력감간의 인과관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal resationships between children's learned helplessness, self-evaluation and the home environment which included the family's socio-economic status, parent's achieving pressure and maternal child rearing behavior. The results were as follows; The socio-economic status of home influenced on the parent's achieving pressure, maternal child rearing behavior and children's self-evaluation, but didn't influence children's learned helplessness. Parent's achieving pressure had a negative correlation with the maternal child rearing behavior and influenced children's learned helplessness, but did not influence children's self-evaluation. Maternal child rearing behavior influenced children's self-evaluation, but did not influence children's self-evaluation. Maternal child rearing behavior influenced children's self-evaluation, but did not influence children's learned helplessness directly. Children's self-evaluation had the strongest direct impact on children's learned helplessness. This was found to be a mediating factor between home environmental factor and children's learned helplessness.

The Types of Parental Abuse and Maladjustmental Behaviors Experienced by Adolescents (청소년 자녀가 경험하는 부모의 학대 유형과 부적응 행동)

  • This study investigated the relationship between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors of adolescents. The subjects were 448 junior and senior middle school students. Statistics were frequencies, percentile, Pearson's r-coefficient, and regression analysis. The main results of this study were as follows ; 1. There were significantly positive correlation between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors. 2. The variables, neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and physical abuse were found to be the important variables in predicting social withdrawal. Neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and sex of the child were found to be the important variables in predicting hyperactivity. Neglect, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting aggression. Sex of the child, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting retreat. And, neglect and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be important variables in predicting obsessive-compulsion.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine determine the relationships among father's child-rearing behavior, parent's marital conflict as perceived by children, and children's aggression. The subjects of this study were included 245 students of 6th-grade students living in Gyeonggi-do. Each participant completed a child's perception of parent's rearing behavior, a parental conflict scale, and a children's aggression scale. Data was analyzed using via the following methods: frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and Cronbach's a. As a result of this study, it was revealed determined that a there were a significant relationship existed with regard to between the father's rearing behavior, the parent's marital conflict, and the children's aggression. This study showed indicated that the father's rearing behavior, rather than the parent's marital conflict, was the more influential on the with regard to children's aggression.

Effects of Perception of Marital Conflict and Child Rearing Attitude on Child Abuse and Emotional Maladjustment Behavior in Children (아동이 지각한 부모의 부부갈등, 양육태도가 학대경험과 정서적 부적응 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the perception of marital conflict and child rearing attitudes on abuse experience and emotional maladjustment behavior in children. Methods: Data were collected from May 25 to June 5, 2009. A questionnaire survey was used with 320 elementary school students. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results: For effects of perception of marital conflict and child rearing attitude on abuse experience among these children, authoritarian controlling disposition, affectionate disposition and marital conflict had a significant impact on their overall abuse experience. These variables were predictors of child abuse and accounted for 30.6% of the variance. For effects of perception of marital conflict, child rearing attitude and abuse experience on emotional maladjustment behavior among children, there was a significant influence for marital conflict, neglect, emotional abuse and authoritarian controlling disposition. These variables were predictors of emotional maladjustment behavior and accounted for 21.5% of the variance. Conclusion: The results indicate that marital conflict and child rearing attitude are two major variables affecting children’s abuse experience and emotional maladjustment behavior.

The Effects of Parental Child-rearing Behavior upon Adolescents with Personality Traits and Runaway Behavior (부모의 양육행동에 따른 청소년의 성격 특성이 가출행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to look at the relationships between parental child-rearing behavior and personality traits and run-away behavior of youths. For the purpose, this study compared 156 youth from the juvenile correctional systems, and 146 youths from high-schools. The additional focus was to find personality differences between runway youths and non-runway youths, and the effects of parental child-rearing behavior. The findings were as follows; First, high caring and low overprotection, among parental child-rearing behavior, was found to have effects upon adolescents with positive personality factors, whereas parental low caring and high overprotection effected upon negative personality factors among youths. Second, in relationship between runaway behavior and personality factors, it was found that youths with positive meaning in personality factors turned out to be less likely to run away from home, whereas those with negative meaning in 16PF were more likely to run away. Lastly, adolescents in high caring and low overprotection state with parents, proved to have high scores in personality factors, and low probability in runaway behavior.

Children's Sensation Seeking, Maternal Childrearing Behavior and Children's Problem Behavior (아동의 감각추구성향 및 어머니 양육행동과 남녀 아동의 문제행동과의 관계)

  • This study investigated the relationship among children's sensation seeking, maternal childrearing behavior and children's problem behavior. The subjects were 470 5th and 6th grade elementary school students in Pusan, Korea. Zuckerman's questionnaire on sensation seeking(1994), Park, Young Yae's questionnaire on maternal childrearing behaviors(1995) and Kim Hye Ryun's questionnaire on children's maladjustment behavior(1993) were used. The results were as follows : (1) According to sex, there were significant differences in sensation seeking stores, the aggressive behavior scores and distracted behavior scores. The boys got higher scores than girls in sensation seeking scores, and also in aggressive behavior scores and distracted behavior scores. (2) There were significant positive correlations between sensation seeking scores and the aggressive behavior scores for both boys and girls. And there were significant positive correlations between sensation seeking scores and the distracted behavior scores for both boys and girls. (3) Both sensation seeking and maternal child rearing behavior predicted aggressive behavior and distracted behavior for both boys and girls. For boy's aggressive behavior, sensation seeking and maternal child rearing behavior explained 8%, 8%, respectively. For boy's distracted behavior, sensation seeking explained 5%. And for girl's aggressive behavior, sensation seeking and maternal child rearing behavior explained 27%, 9%, respectively. For girl's distracted behavior, sensation seeking and maternal child rearing behavior explained 28%, 7%, respectively. The sensation seeking variable was the important predictor influencing on children's aggressive behavior and distracted behavior. Implications of this study were discussed in terms of sensation seeking and socialization.

  • This study started from the basis of necessity on the researches which asserts that parental rearing behavior in the modern society should change reflecting the social change of sociocultural environment. For this, parental rearing behavior of social constructivism and existing parental rearing behavior were contemplated while construct of parental rearing behavior was explored on the basis of main causes from Vygotsky's theory in order to prepare paradigm of new parental rearing behavior. As far as the method of study goes, various literature from relevant scholars were analyzed, centering various previously conducted studies pertaining to parental rearing behaviors as well as Vygotsky's theory. Also, the validity of the contents was confirmed through consult and revision from three experts. As the result, five factors were extracted. First, factor of cooperative interaction on social interaction. Secondly, emphasis on Internalization factor on social constructive behavior. Thirdly, potential development factor in zone of proximal development. Fourthly, instructional conversation factor as semiotic medium. Lastly, assistance factor as scaffolding. As a result, new paradigm of parental rearing behavior was presented and opened a prospect in developing the touchstone of parental rearing behavior pursuant to social constructivism.

The effects of father's parenting behavior and stress, and knowledge on child rearing on his parenting self-efficacy (아버지의 양육수행, 양육스트레스 및 양육지식이 부모효능감에 미치는 영향 -7세 이하 자녀를 둔 맞벌이 가정을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relative effects of father's parenting behavior, parenting stress and knowledge on bringing up children on his parenting self-efficacy. Two hundred and seventy fathers with children under the age of seven participated in this study. Fathers showed a lower level of parenting stress and a higher level of knowledge on child rearing. A higher level of parenting self-efficacy was observed in fathers who have good jobs. The factors of father's parenting behavior, parenting stress and knowledge on rearing children were significant variables in predicting his parenting self-efficacy. A factor of knowledge on child rearing was the best predictor of father's parenting self-efficacy.

  • The study examined the relationship among job satisfaction, parental role satisfaction, and child-rearing behavior on fathers of preschool children. In addition, the study researched the mediation effect of parental role satisfaction between job satisfaction and child-rearing behavior. For such purposes, the study collected data by using questionnaires, targeting 376 fathers of children aged 3-5 in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do province. They completed questionnaires regarding Job satisfaction, parenting satisfaction, and child-rearing behavior. The major findings of this study were as follows: first, there was a significant relationship among job satisfaction, parental role satisfaction, and child-rearing behavior of fathers. A fathers' negative job satisfaction was negatively related to a child-rearing practices. The relationship between fathers' job satisfaction, and child-rearing behavior was mediated by parental satisfaction.
