Metaverse Realistic Media Digital Content Development Education Environment Improvement Research

  • Under the influence of COVID-19, as a measure of social distancing for about two years and one month, non-face-to-face services using ICT element technology are expanding not only to the education sector but to all fields. In particular, as educational programs using the Metaverse platform spread to various fields, educators, and learners have more learning experiences using Edutech, but problems through non-face-to-face learning such as reduced immersion or concentration in education are raising In this paper, to overcome the problems raised through non-face-to-face learning and develop metaverse immersive media digital contents to improve the educational environment, we utilize VR (Virtual Reality) based on an immersive metaverse to provide education / Training contents and the educational environment was established. In this paper, we presented a system to increase immersion and concentration in educational contents in a virtual environment using HMD (Head Mounted Display) for learners who are put into military education/training. Immersion was further improved.

  • The aim of this study is to explore 'how is ICT being used in social work education and are they effective?' In order to answer the questions, a content analysis was conducted. Three academic databases, DBPIA, Kiss, EBSCO were searched to look for the articles that investigated ICT and social work education between Jan. 2016 and July, 2022. No study was found from DBPIA and Kiss. Based on inclusion criteria, thirteen articles were selected from EBSCO. Those articles were analyzed following 9 analytic themes: Country, Undergraduate or Graduate Student, Pedagogical Theory, Course Goal, Course Content, Evaluation Method, Outcome, Applied Software or Program. As results of the study, the platforms primarily used for social work education were VR, Second Life, PeopleSIM, course-tailored Applications. In addition, the following was illustrated as effectiveness of ICT in social work education; immersiveness, course satisfaction, improved knowledge, etc. Study limitations and recommendations of future applications were also discussed.

Study on Printmaking Design Based on Augmented Reality Technology in Era of Digital Transformation (디지털 전환 시대의 AR기술 기반 판화 제작 연구)

  • In this study, our primary focus was on preserving the unique characteristics inherent to the medium of printmaking art, such as cultural implications and formal features, during the digital transformation of traditional printmaking. We investigated methods to incorporate augmented reality (AR) technology into the creation process of traditional printmaking. To help understand the intended fusion of traditional printmaking art and AR technology in this digital transition era, we categorized AR artworks into four types and conducted an analysis of various AR artwork examples from across the globe. From this analysis, we derived the methodologies and design directions for combining AR technology with traditional printmaking. Moreover, we created an AR printmaking piece based on the author's artwork "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter," thereby demonstrating the significant role AR technology can play in the evolution of printmaking. Through this research, we were able to verify the potential and value of AR printmaking as an immersive art form capable of providing a more expansive narrative.

  • Scaling is one of the most basic dental gum treatments and involves removing tartar that has hardened on teeth. However, inexperienced and unprofessional removal of tartar may damage the gums, resulting in excessive bleeding or damage to the teeth. For this reason, scaling must be done delicately according to the gum structure of various people, and sufficient practice must be provided. Related departments at the university are conducting scaling exercises. However, from the perspective of students who have not had sufficient practice, selecting subjects and conducting practice is not easy, and practice subjects may also avoid participating in practice due to discomfort and anxiety. Accordingly, in this study, we designed and implemented a virtual reality practice system using VR to create a virtual patient rather than an actual subject and implement various gum shapes step by step to enable repetitive practice and various scaling experiences.

Development of Character Goods Content Utilizing Marker-based Augmented Reality (마커기반 증강현실을 활용한 캐릭터 굿즈 콘텐츠 개발)

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with a particular focus on the advancement of augmented reality (AR) devices. However, there is a shortage of AR content. Augmented reality operates through marker-based and markerless methods. The marker-based approach involves using a camera to capture images that serve as markers, enhancing them through AR principles. To address the scarcity of AR content and improve the quality of character goods, this study proposes integrating AR technology into character goods. The character industry is expanding each year, leading to a diverse range of character goods. Character acrylic stands, among these goods, leverage game, webtoon, and animation character IPs for sales. To enhance the design process, we utilized the character image as a marker, allowing for the creation of content that aligns with the characteristics of the character IP. We selected a webtoon character and developed AR content, incorporating features such as voice, speech bubbles, and an introduction to the webtoon, tailored to the webtoon's characteristics. This study demonstrates the potential of AR to present visual and auditory information, paving the way for a variety of products, including diverse content. We anticipate that utilizing this research will lead to the emergence of products encompassing various contents.

Research on 3D Content Optimization Methods in VR Devices (VR기기에서 3D 콘텐츠 최적화 방안 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated optimization methods applicable to Unity 3D and evaluated the efficienc y of optimized content through experiments. And by applying this, we created virtual reality content with the th eme of survival set in space. In this experiment, virtual reality space survival content was built on the Android OS platform, and CPU processing speed, total memory usage, draw call, and FPS were measured using Unity P rofiler, and the performance before and after applying the optimization technology was compared and presented i n a table. . As a result, it was found that the 3D content optimization methods proposed in this study, includin g 'Lighting Baking', 'Occlusion Culling', 'Object Pooling', and 'Asynchronous Scene Loading Using JSON', wer e very efficient in VR devices. This study proposes a way to easily solve the optimization problem, which is a chronic problem in the development of 3D content to be used in VR devices, in the Unity engine, providing a useful guideline for indie game developers or people unfamiliar with the Unity engine when developing VR con tent. I hope it will be used.

  • This study aims to examine the trends in Metaverse technology following the Post-COVID era and analyze the use cases in the jewelry industry. With the endemic, the business environment for companies has shifted from online to offline, leading to a reduced public interest in the Metaverse. However, examining the global jewelry brand trends in metaverse technology reveals advancements in AR/VR technologies that enhance realism and evolve the metaverse into a space without the uncanny gap between virtual and reality. The Metaverse exhibits three main characteristics in the Post-COVID era. First, there is a transformation in the business domain, starting with digital twins. Second, it is integrating with various information and communication technologies. Third, setting a direction for Metaverse operation as an omni-channel is being emphasized. Utilizing assets learned during the COVID-19 period and continuing to learn about digital and online technologies is essential for securing market competitiveness. This paper discusses how to enhance the competitiveness of jewelry industry entities based on the trends of Metaverse technology in the Post-COVID era.

Virtual Reality Contents for Rehabilitation Training Utilizing Skeletal Data and Foot Pressure Mat (골격 데이터와 발 압력매트를 활용한 재활 훈련용 가상 현실 콘텐츠)

  • With the growing interest in rehabilitation therapy and exercise programs, there is an increasing need for smart content that simultaneously addresses both health and engagement. Particularly, exercises performed in a state of physical imbalance carry a high risk of injury, making it essential to detect and integrate balance into the training process. This paper proposes Rehabilitation Training program that combines a pressure platform with virtual reality (VR) technology to address this issue. The program enables users to perform exercises such as squats, stationary walking, and forward-backward walking in a VR environment, utilizing real-time foot pressure data captured through a pressure mat. Additionally, an algorithm based on YOLOv8-pose extracted skeletal coordinates is proposed to assess body balance and automatically count squat repetitions. The experimental results showed an average accuracy of 87.9% for each posture, confirming that users can be provided with a safer, more efficient, and immersive training experience through this approach.

Effects of virtual reality training on upper extremity function and activities of daily living in patients with sub-acute stroke (가상현실 훈련이 아급성 뇌졸중 환자의 상지기능과 일상생활활동에 미치는 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of virtual reality training on upper extremity function and activities of daily living in patients with sub-acute stroke. The present study enrolled 18 patients with sub-acute stroke. All subjects were assigned into either the experimental group (n=9) or control group (n=9). Both groups received conventional occupational therapy for 30 minutes/day, 5 times a week, for 4 weeks. Additionally, the experimental group performed virtual reality training in each session for 30 minutes/day, and the control group conducted conventional occupational therapy in each session for 30 minutes/day. The outcome measures were performed through the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) and the Korean-modified Barthel Index (K-MBI) before and after intervention. In results, the experimental group showed significant improvements in the scores of FMA and K-MBI after intervention (p<.05). The control group showed significant improvements in the shoulder/elbow/forearm, wrist, and hand sub-domains of the FMA and K-MBI (p<.05). After intervention, the experimental group showed significantly greater improvements in the total score and in the wrist and hand sub-domains of the FMA than control group (p<.05). These findings suggest that virtual reality training may have positive effects on the improvements of upper extremity function in patients with sub-acute stroke.

  • The study was conducted to identify the effectiveness of nursing skills practice using VR(Virtual Reality) on competency and confidence in nursing skills, learning self-efficacy, and satisfaction of nursing students. This study used a randomized controlled trial design. The 35 patients in the experimental group took nursing skills practice using VR and The 35 patients in the control group took fundamental nursing skills practice. The data were conducted on confidence in nursing skills, learning self-efficacy, satisfaction, and nursing skills' competency. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. As a result of the study, there were no significant differences between the experimental and control groups in competency and confidence in nursing skills, learning self-efficacy, and satisfaction. However, confidence in nursing skills and learning self-efficacy increased after practice in both groups. The results indicate that nursing skills practice using VR was effective in improving nursing skills.
