Development of Android App for Suppor ting Smooth Multimedia Streaming Service Using Frame Buffer (프레임 버퍼를 이용한 매끄러운 멀티미디어 스트리밍 서비스를 지원하는 안드로이드 앱 개발)

  • Existing Android applications for streaming video in real time are dependent on the codec, which composes the encoding function, and the version of Android operating system. Also, for streaming video in real time, most applications should be connected with a separate desktop PC. To overcome these disadvantages, we propose a new application, which records and streams video in real time. Specifically, the proposed application uses the flash video file format, which is the common media file format supported by various versions of Android operating system. Through experiments, we show that it is possible for the proposed application to record the video screens more than 20 frames per second and to stream it in real time while using the existing video encoding methods.

  • As the Internet Protocol be widely/rapidly used in packet communication, common carriers are providing the multimedia service(Both direction real-time voice, video conference, remote educational etc.)on the Internet. Also the 070 VoIP (Voice over IP) service is provided by the carriers on the packer network. In order to offer VoIP service in Korea, common carrier has to acquire the optimum level for QoS(quality of service). In this paper, we study on CODEC quality to get a higher QoS for VoIP.

An Efficient Hardware-Software Co-Implementation of an H.263 Video Codec (하드웨어 소프트웨어 통합 설계에 의한 H.263 동영상 코덱 구현)

  • In this paper, an H.263 video codec is implemented by adopting the concept of hardware and software co-design. Each module of the codec is investigated to find which approach between hardware and software is better to achieve real-time processing speed as well as flexibility. The hardware portion includes motion-related engines, such as motion estimation and compensation, and a memory control part. The remaining portion of theH.263 video codec is implemented in software using a RISC processor. This paper also introduces efficient design methods for hardware and software modules. In hardware, an area-efficient architecture for the motion estimator of a multi-resolution block matching algorithm using multiple candidates and spatial correlation in motion vector fields (MRMCS), is suggested to reduce the chip size. Software optimization techniques are also explored by using the statistics of transformed coefficients and the minimum sum of absolute difference (SAD)obtained from the motion estimator.

  • A stereoscopic 3D video service is able to provide a 3D video service while keeping backward compatibility with the existing 2D video service. In the terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, a stereoscopic video codec is required to have high coding efficiency in order to provide a 3D video service in the same channel capacity. A hybrid codec consisting of MPEG-2 for base video and H.264/AVC or HEVC for 3D auxiliary video is considered. Furthermore, Non-Real-Time (NRT) delivery of stereoscopic video is also considered as a service scenario for 3DTV services to overcome the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme using adaptive loop filter (ALF) which had been considered in HEVC as a pre-/post-filter for enhancing coding efficiency in NRT-based 3DTV services. In order to apply ALF as a post-filter to the reconstructed additional view coded by H.264/AVC, we devise a method in which ALF is adaptively applied based on a structure determined by using macroblock (MB) coding information such as MB mode type and reference index instead of coding unit (CU) structure on which ALF is applied in the HEVC. Experimental results shows that the proposed stereoscopic video coding scheme applying ALF obtains up to 24.9% gain of bit saving.

A New Fast Variable Length Decoding Method Based on the Probabilistic Distribution of Symbols in a VLC Table (확률분포기반 고속 가변장 복호화 방법)

  • Variable length coding (VLC) has been used in many well known standard video coding algorithms such as MPEG and H.26x. However, VLC can not be processed parallelly because of its sequentiality. This sequentiality is a big barrier for implementing a real-time software video codec since parallel schemes can not be applied. In this paper, we propose a new fast VLD (Variable Length Decoding) method based on the probabilistic distribution of symbols in VLC tables used in MPEG as well as H.263 standard codecs. Even though MPEG suggests the table partitioning method, they do not show theoretically why the number of partitioned tables is two or three. We suggest the method for deciding the number of partitioned tables. Applying our scheme to several well-known MPEG-2 test sequences, we can reduce the computational time up to about 10% without any sacrificing video quality

  • The infectious information hiding system(IIHS) is proposed for secure distribution of high quality video contents by applying optimized watermark embedding and detection algorithms to video codecs. And the watermark as infectious information is transmitted while target video is displayed or edited by codecs. This paper proposes a fast and effective reversible watermarking and infectious information generation for IIHS. Our reversible watermarking scheme enables video decoder to control video quality and watermark strength actively for by adding control code and expiration date with the watermark. Also, we designed our scheme with low computational complexity to satisfy it's real-time processing in a video codec, and to prevent time or frame delay during watermark detection and video restoration, we embedded one watermark and one side information within a macro-block. Experimental results verify that our scheme satisfy real-time watermark embedding and detection and watermark error is 0% after reversible watermark detection. Finally, we conform that the quality of restored video contens is almost same with compressed video without watermarking algorithm.

  • The need for video diagnosis in medicine has been increased and real-time transfer of digital video will be an important component in PACS and telemedicine. But, Network environment has certain limitations that the required throughput can not satisfy quality of service (QoS). MPEG-4 ratified as a moving video standard by the ISO/IEC provides very efficient video coding covering the various ranges of low bit-rate in network environment. We implemented MPEG-4 CODEC (coder/decoder) and applied various compression ratios to moving ultrasound images. These images were displayed in random order on a client monitor passed through network. Radiologists determined subjective opinion scores for evaluating clinically acceptable image quality and then these were statistically processed in the t-Test method. Moreover the MPEG-4 decoded images were quantitatively analyzed by computing peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to objectively evaluate image quality. The bit-rate to maintain clinically acceptable image quality was up to 0.8Mbps. We successfully implemented the adaptive throughput or bit-rate relative to the image quality of ultrasound sequences used MPEG-4 that can be applied for diagnostic performance in real-time.

  • This Paper suggests real-time video streaming method by using DCT-based scalability, and evaluates and analyzes the function. It is similar to using lowpass filter. That is, as following figure, this method is to split the encoded data in splitter and transmit it, and to decode the data according to the situation. This method can be applied to any video CODEC which is based on DCT. Therefore, this thesis suggests easy video streaming method by using DCT-based scalability, and shows the result of experiment. By using suggested scalability, calculations are reduced, and spacial scalability is realized. Moreover, the objective data which meet user's need according to the network condition and choose the appropriate scalability according to the capability of terming can be extracted. And it is possible to apply any resources according to the specificity of image.

  • Layered video coding schemes allow the video information to be transmitted in multiple video bitstreams to achieve scalability. they are attractive in theory for two reasons. First, they naturally allow for heterogeneity in networks and receivers in terms of client processing capability and network bandwidth. Second, they correspond to optimal utilization of available bandwidth when several video qualify levels are desired. In this paper we propose a scalable video codec architectures with motion estimation, which is suitable for real-time audio and video communication over packet networks. The coding algorithm is compatible with ITU-T recommendation H.263+ and includes various techniques to reduce complexity. Fast motion estimation is Performed at the H.263-compatible base layer and used at higher layers, and perceptual macroblock skipping is performed at all layers before motion estimation. Error propagation from packet loss is avoided by Periodically rebuilding a valid Predictor in Intra mode at each layer.

  • In this paper, implementation process of standard platform for T-DMB Receiver in low-cost and small-size are following: First, implement SoC for 32 bit RISC CPU and 16 bit DSP, Hardware H.264 CODEC, Post Processor or Video Display, Audio Processor, I/O Device. Second, implement Real Time OS for flexible application. Third, propose simple architecture for interface with peripheral devices using one-chip processor.
