Severe mine disasters have continued to occur around the world. To ensure worker's health and safety and enhance the productivity, a number of studies have been conducted for the development of wireless sensor network (WSN), environmental monitoring, and communication system in underground mines. An increase in development and application of these systems has just begun with the introduction of information and communication technology into the mining industry in Korea, and yet there have been only a few studies that considered the underground mine ventilation system. This study presented the literature review on the development of WSN and environmental monitoring in underground mines, and especially, on 7 subjects in terms of underground mine ventilation. Moreover, studies that especially conducted real-time environmental monitoring were reviewed and categorized by each commercial software commonly utilized for the ventilation network analysis. For the application in domestic underground mines, further issues were discussed regarding research subjects that may be needed in the future and domestic environmental standards that has been used in the underground mine operation. This paper is expected to be useful for the development of WSN-based environmental monitoring and communication system, as well as for related studies in the future.

In this paper, an automatic mobile robot system for a intelligent path planning using the detection scheme of the spatial coordinates based on stereo camera is proposed. In the proposed system, face area of a moving person is detected from a left image among the stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and its center coordinates are computed by using the centroid method and then using these data, the stereo camera embedded on the mobile robot can be controlled for tracking the moving target in real-time. Moreover, using the disparity map obtained from the left and right images captured by the tracking-controlled stereo camera system and the perspective transformation between a 3-D scene and an image plane, depth information can be detected. Finally, based-on the analysis of these calculated coordinates, a mobile robot system is derived as a intelligent path planning and a estimation. From some experiments on robot driving with 240 frames of the stereo images, it is analyzed that error ratio between the calculated and measured values of the distance between the mobile robot and the objects, and relative distance between the other objects is found to be very low value of $2.19\%$ and $1.52\%$ on average, respectably.

Recently, many researches about making more comfortable input device based on gaze detection technology have been done in human computer interface. However, the system cost becomes high due to the complicated hardware and there is difficulty to use the gaze detection system due to the complicated user calibration procedure. In this paper, we propose a new gaze detection method based on the 2D analysis and a simple user calibration. Our method used a small USB (Universal Serial Bus) camera attached on a HMD (Head-Mounted Display), hot-mirror and IR (Infra-Red) light illuminator. Because the HMD is moved according to user's facial movement, we can implement the gaze detection system of which performance is not affected by facial movement. In addition, we apply our gaze detection system to 3D first person shooting game. From that, the gaze direction of game character is controlled by our gaze detection method and it can target the enemy character and shoot, which can increase the immersion and interest of game. Experimental results showed that the game and gaze detection system could be operated at real-time speed in one desktop computer and we could obtain the gaze detection accuracy of 0.88 degrees. In addition, we could know our gaze detection technology could replace the conventional mouse in the 3D first person shooting game.
The goal of this study is to implement a communication system that can monitor the status of the nacelle using the power cable itself, without the dedicated communication lines such as an UTP cable and optical fiber for the offshore wind turbine. An inductive coupling powerline communication system for a MW class offshore wind turbine was proposed and its communication performance was demonstrated. The inductive couplers was designed for operation at up to 500 A using a ferrite composite materials. Field test was carried out on the wind farms of Jeju island. Using the iperf communication test program, we have obtained more than 15 Mbps data transmission rate through the 100 m power cable that was installed between the nacelle and the bottom of the power converter. In the data transmission stability test for a week, there was no failure ever. The minimum transmission rate was 15 Mbps and the average data rate was about 20 Mbps. Next, we have installed an infrared camera inside the nacelle in order to measure the temperature distribution and variation of the nacelle. The real-time thermal image taken by the camera was successfully sent to the monitoring system without error.
In this paper we proposed a new ocean radiation automatic monitoring system. The proposed system has the following characteristics: First, using NaI + PVT mixed detectors, the response speed is fast and precision analysis is possible. Second, the application of temperature compensation algorithm to scintillator-type sensors does not require additional cooling devices and enables stable operation in the changing ocean environment. Third, since cooling system is not needed, electricity consumption is low, and electricity can be supplied reliably by utilizing solar energy, which can be installed at the observation deck of ocean environment. Fourth, using GPS and wireless communications, accurate location information and real-time data transmission function for measurement areas enables immediate warning response in the event of nuclear accidents such as those involving neighboring countries. The results tested by the authorized testing agency to assess the performance of the proposed system were measured in the range of $5{\mu}Sv/h$ to 15mSv/h, which is the highest level in the world, and the accuracy was determined to be ${\pm}8.1%$, making normal operation below the international standard ${\pm}15%$. The internal environmental grade (waterproof) was achieved, and the rate of variation was measured within 5% at operating temperature of $-20^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ and stability was verified. Since the measured value change rate was measured within 10% after the vibration test, it was confirmed that there will be no change in the measured value due to vibration in the ocean environment caused by waves.

Objectives: Exposure to fine particles in urban air has been associated with a number of negative health effects. High levels of fine particles have been detected at underground stations in big cities. We investigated the exposure conditions in four occupational groups in the Stockholm underground train system to identify high-exposed groups and study variations in exposure. Methods: $PM_1$ and $PM_{2.5}$ were measured during three full work shifts on 44 underground workers. Fluctuations in exposure were monitored by a real-time particle monitoring instrument, pDR, DataRAM. Qualitative analysis of particle content was performed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Nitrogen dioxide was measured using passive monitors. Results: For all underground workers, the geometric mean (GM) of $PM_1$ was $18{\mu}g/m^3$ and of $PM_{2.5}$ was $37{\mu}g/m^3$. The particle exposure was highest for cleaners/platform workers, and the GM of $PM_1$ was $31.6{\mu}g/m^3$ [geometric standard deviation (GSD), 1.6] and of $PM_{2.5}$ was $76.5{\mu}g/m^3$ (GSD, 1.3); the particle exposure was lowest for ticket sellers, and the GM of $PM_1$ was $4.9{\mu}g/m^3$ (GSD, 2.1) and of $PM_{2.5}$ was $9.3{\mu}g/m^3$ (GSD, 1.5). The $PM_1$ and $PM_{2.5}$ levels were five times higher in the underground system than at the street level, and the particles in the underground had high iron content. The train driver's nitrogen dioxide exposure level was $64.1{\mu}g/m^3$ (GSD, 1.5). Conclusions: Cleaners and other platform workers were statistically significantly more exposed to particles than train drivers or ticket sellers. Particle concentrations ($PM_{2.5}$) in the Stockholm underground system were within the same range as in the New York underground system but were much lower than in several older underground systems around the world.

However, due to the limitation of data gathering the research depression was prominent for quite a while and then soon was able to tune back on track with development in global positioning system using satellite and generalization of computer use. Recently, there has been many research studies using reception materials of global Positioning system(GPS). Introducing GPS technology to traffic has made real time tracking of a vehicle position possible. Position information is sequential in terms of time and simultaneous measurement of several vehicles in continuous driving is also practicable. Above research was focused on judging whether it is feasible to overcome the following model research by adopting the GPS reception device that was restrictively proceeded due to the limitation of data gathering. For practical judgment, we measured the accuracy and confidence level of the GPS reception devices material by carrying out a practical experiment. Car following model is also being applied in simulations of traffic flow analysis, but due to the difficulty of estimating parameters the basis of the above result. it is our goal to produce an accurate calibration of car following model's parameters that is suitable in this domestic actuality.

Generally, the plate load test and the field density test are conducted for compaction quality control in earthwork, and then additional analysis. Recently developed that the DCPT (Dynamic Cone Penetration Test) equipment for smart compaction quality control its the system are able to get location and real-time information about worker history management. The IoT-based the DCPT system improved the time-cost in the field compared traditional test, and the functions recording and storage of the DPI (Dynamic Cone Penetration Index) were automated. This paper describes using these DCPT equipment on in-situ and compared to the standards of the DCPT, and the compaction trend had be confirmed with DPI as the field test data. As a result, the DPI of the final compaction decreased by 1.4 times compared to the initial compaction, confirming the increase in the compaction strength of the subgrade compaction layer 10 to 14 cm deep from the surface. A trend of increasing compaction strength was observed. This showed a tendency to increase the compaction strength of the target DPI proposed by MnDOT and the results of the existing plate load test, but there was a difference in the increase rate. Therefore, additional studies are needed on domestic compaction materials and laboratory conditions for target DPI and correlation studies with the plate load tests. If this is reflected, it is suggested that DCPT will be widely used as smart construction equipment in earthworks.

Due to the recent integrated water management policy, it is important to identify a reliable supply amount for establishing an agricultural water supply plan. In order to identify the amount of agricultural water supply, it is essential to calculate the discharge by measuring the water level and flow velocity of reservoirs and canal agricultural water, and quality control to ensure reliability must be preceded. Unlike agricultural reservoirs, canal agricultural water are more sensitive to the surrounding environment and reservoir irrigation methods (continuous, intermittent irrigation, etc.), making it difficult to estimate general water level patterns and at the same time a lot of erroneous data. The Korea Rural Community Corporation is applying a filter technique as a quality control method capable of processing large quantities and real-time processing of canal agricultural water level data, and applicability evaluation is needed. In this study, the types of errors generated by the automatic water level measurement system were first determined. In addition, by using the manual quality control data, a technique with high applicability is derived by comparing and analyzing data calibrated with Gaussian, Savitzky-Golay, Hampel, and Median filter techniques, RMSE, and NSE, and the optimal parameters of the technique range was derived. As a result, the applicability of the Median filter was evaluated the highest, and the optimal parameters were derived in the range of 120min to 240min. Through the results of this study, it is judged that it can be used for quantitative evaluation to establish an agricultural water supply plan.

Frequency Scanning Interferometry(FSI) system, one of the most promising optical surface measurement techniques, generally results in superior optical performance comparing with other 3-dimensional measuring methods as its hardware structure is fixed in operation and only the light frequency is scanned in a specific spectral band without vertical scanning of the target surface or the objective lens. FSI system collects a set of images of interference fringe by changing the frequency of light source. After that, it transforms intensity data of acquired image into frequency information, and calculates the height profile of target objects with the help of frequency analysis based on Fast Fourier Transform(FFT). However, it still suffers from optical noise on target surfaces and relatively long processing time due to the number of images acquired in frequency scanning phase. 1) a Polarization-based Frequency Scanning Interferometry(PFSI) is proposed for optical noise robustness. It consists of tunable laser for light source, ${\lambda}/4$ plate in front of reference mirror, ${\lambda}/4$ plate in front of target object, polarizing beam splitter, polarizer in front of image sensor, polarizer in front of the fiber coupled light source, ${\lambda}/2$ plate between PBS and polarizer of the light source. Using the proposed system, we can solve the problem of fringe image with low contrast by using polarization technique. Also, we can control light distribution of object beam and reference beam. 2) the signal processing acceleration method is proposed for PFSI, based on parallel processing architecture, which consists of parallel processing hardware and software such as Graphic Processing Unit(GPU) and Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA). As a result, the processing time reaches into tact time level of real-time processing. Finally, the proposed system is evaluated in terms of accuracy and processing speed through a series of experiment and the obtained results show the effectiveness of the proposed system and method.
