Analysis of Hydraulic Characteristics Depending Upon the Geometrical and Discharge Condition at Channel Junctions (하도 합류부의 기하학적 특성과 유량조건에 따른 수리학적 특성 해석)

  • In this study, we took the geometrical character of the river channel junction and hydrologic conditions as independent variables, and hydraulic behavior characteristics as an independent variable. The result, after multiple analysis was carried out, proved that, except for the generating area of the accelerating zone of velocity the accelerating zone and both the main channel and the tributary zone of stagnation the stagnation zone, there was correlation of over 90%. Also, derived presumed expression of the hydraulic characteristics of the junction was applied to the real natural channel - the river channel of the Guem-ho main channel(the A-yang bridge to the Guem-ho bridge). As the result, it proved that it represented hydraulic characteristics relatively well.

  • In the present study, we have developed high strength concrete which is adequate for the long span PC beam above 40 meters. We have selected the most adequate materials for high strength concrete through laboratory tests and in-situ mock-up applications. We verified and decided the best curing condition of high strength concrete, and suggests the optimum mix design of high strength concrete. In the future, we will verify the properties-fresh and hardened concrete- of high strength concrete and its serviceability, and also apply the high strength concrete to newly-constructed real bridge structure.

  • This paper is especially concerned with the weldment between support beam and square bar that plays important roles in control box of Expansion Joint as a bridge structure. Fatigue strength of the weldment is dependent on notch radius from welding defects and material properties. From which, tensile strength($\sigma$ult) and fatigue notch factor(Kf) become important factors to predict fatigue life. The fatigue notch sensitivity(η) for metals can be divided into two types : high and low notch sensitivity. In this work, the Expansion Joint weldment was found to have low notch sensitivity. Fatigue test of real structure was performed up to 106cycles to be compared with predicted endurance limit.

  • In order to compare the dynamic loading effects of particular trains it is necessary to use methodology that separates the two inherent aspects of the dynamic response of the total dynamic system-the characteristics of the train and a bridge. Because the train signature profile is a function of axle spacing and axle loads, it can be calculated which is independent of the characteristics of an individual bridge. Thus the use of the train signature enables a rapid comparison of the effects of different trains to be made. If the magnitude of train signature for a new train type is less than of existing trains on a route then the route will be satisfactory for the new train. This study presents a quantitative analysis of the dynamic loading effects for various domestic real trains-PMC8, PMC16, Mugunhwa passenger coach, several freight coach, KTX and TTX(Tilting Train Express)- Using the train signature.

  • In this paper, the system reliability concept was presented to predict the lifespan of bridges. Lifetime distribution functions (survivor functions) were used to model real bridges to predict their remaining life. Using the system reliability concept and lifetime distribution functions (survivor functions), a program called LIFETIME was developed. The survivor functions give the reliability of component at time t. The program was applied to an existing Colorado state highway bridge to predict the failure probability of the time-dependent system. The bridge was modeled as a system, with failure probability computed using time-dependent deteriorating models.

  • As the computer related technology evolves a study for a practical use of real structure as well as its hteory for optimum design has been greatly advanced. But the study on optimum design of pre-stressed concrete beam(PSC-beam) bridge for the construction of national roads and highways in Korea is not sufficient. Since a standard section for the PSC-beam is proposed, it is practically used in designing the PSC-beam. It is noticed that the section using the current standard PSC-beam design to be an over-designed with its surplus safety factor. Therefore, it is necessary to consider economical PSC-beam section which automatically satisfies all requirement of design specifications. Thus, in this study, the optimum design methods of PSC-beam are carried out using the gradient-based search method and global search method. As a result of the optimum design method, it was confirmed that the design of PSC-beam has a serious properties to non-linearity and discontinuity. And the section that in economical and efficinet design methods than the current standard design method is proposed.

  • In this paper, the battery charging device using DMFC(Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) for electric bicycle is proposed. In the proposed system, phase-shift full-bridge converter is used as a battery charger by boosting the 12V DMFC output voltage up to 36V. By using the phase-shift technique, the ringing of the transformer is reduced and the efficiency of the converter can be improved. The operation modes of proposed phase-shift full-bridge converter is analyzed and verified by the simulation and the experimental results.

  • Resistance factors for static bearing capacity of driven steel pipe piles were calibrated in the framework of reliability theory. A comprehensive foundation design case study on an actual bridge was performed using resistance factors developed in this study. Comparing with Allowable Stress Design (ASD), LRFD design method provides quantitative evaluation of safety level of designed foundation and exhibits considerable potential economy in design.

  • Long term measurement data on the bridge response caused by moving loads are fundamental ingredient to the development or improvement of the new bridge design. In addition, proper establishment of the systematic analysis and diagnosis together with the maintenance system become the essential procedure to the effective repair/reinforcement/retrofit of not only the high speed but also the conventional railway bridges. Therefore, the real time health monitoring system on the important railway bridges should be enhancing the proper maintenance of the structures. The main objective of this study is, therefore, to develop a monitoring device including Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) function and the emphasis is place on the easy and economic installation of the developed system in the field condition.

  • The time-averaged behavior of the three-phase Inductor-Converter Bridge (ICB) circuit has been analyzed by using the state-space averaging method. Especially, a second order approximation in the matrix expansion makes the analysis possible. The results are in a closed form which is quite different from the conventional solution obtained by using the Fourier Series. Therefore, the computational difficulties in evaluating the infinite Fourier series can be avoided and the results derived in this paper are available expecially in real time control. By comparing with the Fourier result, it has been verified that the analysis by means of the state-space averaging method is more accurate and simple. The digital simulation and the equivalent experiments have also been carried out to confirm the theoretical results.
